  1. Actually it is GMM's Modern British Warship fret. Rob
  2. Tyne and Wear museums in Newcastle have large-scale plans of her. When I asked a couple of years ago, they were unable to take a direct copy of the plans as they were apparently rather fragile, but it might be worth asking the museum if anything else has cropped up. Cheers, Rob
  3. Even better - use good quality kitchen scissors to cut PE. That way you can cut flush (so no filiing) and don't have the problem of it springing off. Rob
  4. Games Workshop superglue is the best I have found. Rob
  5. Shar2 - Colossus class had all-but gone by the 60's, apart from Triumph and Arromanches. You'd have more joy with a modernised Majestic class. If you want to rework the L'Arsenal or Heller kits it can be done, or there is a chap in Australia who sells garage kits of the Majestic class with angled deck via ebay. I'm currently building HMAS Melbourne from one of his kits. Hard work, but good fun. Cheers, Rob
  6. I built mine in 1/700 using the Fujimi kit as a base. You can see it on www.finewaterline.com The NMM has a full set of plans but they would be expensive. even more so when you tell them it is for producing a model kit. On the other hand - if you can get an idea of what the company would propose as a cost to produce a kit in 1/350 or 1/700 it would be helpful. If so, give me a shout. rob_kernaghan@hotmail.com Rob
  7. try giving the submarine museum in Gosport a shout. They might have photos of such a thing. Cheers, Rob
  8. I like it as well. The builder has done a fine job. Rob
  9. Seen this before. However many times I see it, I still marvel at the work, it is top class and the builder should be extremely proud of it. Rob
  10. I like it, albeit I think having 3 smaller vessels would have been more cost-effective. i reckon we are saying 40 aircraft as that's all we can afford! BTW, great photos, thanks for posting them. Rob
  11. She looks very forlorn, captures the mood perfectly. Some good work there. However, I can't help feeling sorry for a discarded boat who's crew no longer want her. Well done! Cheers, Rob
  12. Not really. I would guess on a series of blues and greys as worn by HMS commonwealth, RMS Mauretania and some of the old armoured cruisers, judging by the shades of the paint, but this would be a shot in the dark. I would also suppose the pattern is not symmetrical. Cheers, rob
  13. Really hoping WEM will have them in stock soon, so looking forward to these kits. Cheers, Rob
  14. For large sanding jobs, always wet sand in lukewarm water and wear vinyl or rubber gloves as the resin dust can irritate the skin. Rob
  15. Orange Hobby are a new-ish name in 1/700 resin ships, producing small carriers and amphibious ships. Is anyone aware of a Uk stockist? If so, please let me know, Thanks, rob
  16. Another gem mate. Now can I persuade you to bring her to Telford? Cheers, Rob
  17. That's a reboxed Hornet Rob
  18. Paul - in 1/700 do yourself a favour and look for the old b-resina resin kit. It is superb. Cheers, Rob
  19. yes, looks a good starting point to me. Will work up very nicely with some PE added. Cheers, Rob
  20. This any help? http://www.hazegray.org/navhist/rn/frigate...battleaxe10.jpg If not PM me your address and I can send you instructions from a WEM type 22 kit. the kit you refer to needs a lot of work if you want something accurate. happy to help if you want me to. regards, Rob
  21. In 1/700 scale WEM make a Batch I and Atlatnics make a batch III. The WEM kit is very good. The Atlantics kit is a lot cheaper but does have a number of issues with it, all depends on which ship you want and how much detail you want to add/correct. I would recommend buying the jecobin plans anyway, plus a copy of RN Frigates in Focus (Maritime books). Converting a Batch III to a Batch II is reasonably straightforward. Do NOT try to convert a Leander into a 22, they are way too different. if you specifically need 1/600 then you may as well just scratchbuild. Cheers, Rob
  22. Dave, your best bet on something of that size is to spray at least the largest area. If you don't want to buy an airbrush, then do consider giving a light coat to give some grip to the hull. Something like either halfords primer or a can of Humbrol 64 acrylic will do fine. brushing enamels over it is no problem. in terms of brush painting, thin the paint, aplly in brush strokes in ONLY one direction and let dry. Don't worry if it looks streaky after first coat. You will need several thin coats rather than one thin one and allow the paint to build up gradually. Cheers, Rob
