I've just been reading through this thread as the WW1 GB has really inspired me to build aircraft from this period. I have to say Pete, and you other guys who build in scales larger than 1:72 (my prefered scale), that the quality is absolutely top notch. One day perhaps I will venture. This is the first time I've seen 'in side the box' of a Wingnuts kit and that instruction sheet is just, as has been said, a work of art. Thanks everyone. John, I have to agree about the struts. I managed to get the wing struts done first. I attached them to the lower wing using liquid poly and let them set a bit This meant that they were fixed, but had a little flexibility to move slightly. Then I added the top wing. The whole lot moved around a bit and it was a pain to get the aerilon struts to sit in their holes. However, I managed to get the wings into a resonable over lap and straight with the 6 struts in the right position. I left the glue to harden over night and the whole thing was solid by morning. Thankfully nothing had moved, although one of the aerilon struts was a little short and ended up on the edge of the hole it was supposed to fit in. Finally (thank god I hear you say ) the fuselage struts were added, but the two forward ones were too short and had to be replaced. The SE 5 was a much easier kit to put together, but I am more than happy with the RE 8 so far. Thansk for you patience. Deacon

A little more work on the RE 8. One small item was that the kit exhausts weren't long enough so, I thought I'd have a go at making them longer. The kit is now undercoated and I have added metal 'thingies' which can be seen on top of the wing. These aren't supplied in the kit and just had to be added or the build wouldn't look right. You can make out some more rigging holes. These have been located using info from the internet especially photos of a replica RE 8 built in New Zealand, a very good aid. I am not sure I will get all the rigging on the aircraft, but hopefully enough so that it looks good. Thanks for looking Deacon

Hell mate, it was two years ago! Just, painted the underside to get a match. The closest colour is Vallejo Model Colour Olive Green 967. I only used Vallejo back then so it was this one colour. Hope this helps. Deacon

Thanks guys. Andy, the kit fit is fine, I just added some tippex to reduce the depth of the join. I really like making Matchbox kits these days, possibly because of the good memories. I know they don't stand up well against many model companies these days, but I still really enjoy making them. Cheers Deacon

Unfortunately a combination of trying to do too many GB's and being defeated by the resin wheel wells on this kit will result in me not completing this build. Just want to say thanks to those who helped me sort out one or two issues with this build and congratulations to those who will complete their projects. Deacon

1:72 Revell Royal Aircraft Factory S.E.5a

I have been working away at this kit since April and finished it last night. I have to say that the SE 5 builds within the GB really inspired me, so thanks to those people who built the larger versions. It occured to me that the build could be included within this GB. (I wish I had thought of that sooner). So, this will be a short thread as all the build photos will be included within this post. OK, box shot, obviously this build is the lower of the two boxes. I used the 1:48 kit to help make some of the detail lacking in the 1:72. Here is the seat for instance. OK, seat in and dashboard, fuselage closed, lower wing and wing struts added. Rigging has been glued to the struts as I have seen others do this and I believe it is far easier to do it at this point. Top wing added with holes drilled ready for the rigging. First lot of paint on. Paint sealed with Klear and decals added. And the final product, which I know is not perfect but I am happy with the result. Thanks for looking. Deacon
