  1. Looking around Christmas / new year at the moment. Mike
  2. Amazing to think of a French pre-dreadnought battleship in 1/350 plastic. If you had said that ten years ago people would think you were drunk! Mike
  3. More news on the forthcoming kits, they will be produced by Starling Models under the Atlantic Models label, included will be some re-releases and some which were not released before White Ensign Models went out of business. There are also a number of other surprises coming. The list so far to be released includes all in 1/700 - HMS Venus - V class emergency war destroyer HMS Scorpion - S class emergency war destroyer HMS London - Country class cruiser HMS Calcutta - C class cruiser HMS Coventry - C class cruiser HMS Grey Goose - Steam gunboat The Round Table class trawler will also be re-released. There is no scheduled release date at present, most likely the first will be in early 2017 once the Starling Models Algerine class kits are out. More information as things develop. Mike
  4. Combrig do some cruisers and battlecruisers but not battleships as of yet. Mike
  5. I am very excited to be able to say that with the generosity of Peter Hall, the range of White Ensign Models 1/700 resin kits will be released under the Atlantic Models label by Starling Models. This will include a number of kits that did not see the light of day before the demise of WEM as well as the reintroduction of some favourites. Some of these will be quite a surprise I think. Clearly there is a lot of work to be done to get this large range back in production, but a target of Christmas for the first release will be set and hopefully there will be a gradual process of releases next year. It might of course help to prioritise the list if you let me know what you would like to see reissued, Peter will continue with releasing the 1/350 range so between us hopefully these fine kits will be available again. Mike
  6. The Flyhawk 1/700 HMS Hermes is now in stock, http://starling-models.co.uk/index.php?id_product=729&controller=product&id_lang=1 Price is £36.00, looks like Legion and Kelly will be next in line judging from the box art! Mike
  7. HI Ray Thanks for the kind words, I'm doing my best to provide the best service I can with top quality items for the ship modeller so thank you for saying that. Pleased to hear you like the kits, have fun building them. Cheers Mike
  8. We are expecting to have the Flyhawk 1/700 HMS Hermes in stock on the 24th August, watch out for more details then. mike
  9. Oh, so many subjects! Ideally in order to get best value out of the design, as design time is a big cost, I need to look at 700 and 350 kits of the same subject. Also I want to concentrate on RN subjects really, so for that reason I probably won't consider a flush decker although an LRDE would be nice for obvious reasons. A River class is the sort of subject that would fit, but it will all depend on sales. Insect class is a nice subject too. We shall see in the fullness of time, but as a new, small but slowly growing business, this is a big financial outlay for me and I will have to see how the returns are before committing to any future projects. Mike
  10. Actually, my late father in law was on Clare, which was one of only two conversion to LRDE, the other of course being Stanley. Not sure if a 350 version would be a big seller but it would be nice to do a 700 one at some point. Mike
  11. I am very pleased to announce the first in a new range of mulitmedia models, these have been CAD designed by the very talented Benjamin Druel and 3d printed on high quality machines for the most accurate dimensions and finest details. The first kit will be an Algerine class minesweeper in 1/700. The kit will be resin cast with etched brass parts and decals to build a number of these ships that served with the Royal and Canadian Navies in WW2 and also saw post war service with a number of countries. It will initially be available in 1/700, hopefully towards the end of September, with a 1/350 version to follow, all being well. This is a kit which has not been previously available in either of these scales. This will hopefully be the first in a range of kits featuring smaller Royal Navy warships in both 1/700 and 1/350 scales from Starling Models, more news to follow including photos of the test cast which arrived today. These are images of the CAD design, which I think you will agree are pretty impressive. Mike
  12. New in stock today, two 1/350 destroyer kits from AJM Models, these are HMS Malcolm and HMS Douglas, both are shown in 1942 fit for convoy defence. These are resin kits with etched brass, turned brass barrels and masts and decals. Mike http://www.starling-models.co.uk
  13. I have some on order from Flyhawk, should be here in a week or so. Mike
  14. A fine looking ship, I do like cargo ships of this period. Mike
  15. Only just saw this post, are you still thinking about doing your own etch? Mike
  16. It's looking around the £36 mark but import taxes and fluctuating currency needs to be taken into account. Mike
  17. Flyhawk have now released their kit of the WW2 aircraft carrier HMS Hermes. It is 1/700 scale, has full hull or waterline options and includes etched brass. All being well the kit will be in stock in a week or so, no price yet but watch out for more news very soon.
  18. I hope to get some in over the next few days or so, it does seem to have taken an awfully long time. Mike
  19. A big restock in the shop today of Combrig ship kits in 1/700 plus lots of new items including 1/350 HMS Tiger, HMS Victoria, HMS Glasgow and French battleship Hoche. Included in the 1/700 list of new items to the shop are RN battleships Orion, Duncan, Thunderer, Victoria, Ajax, Benbow, cruisers Glasgow, HMAS Australia (both battlecruiser and County class cruiser), HMAS Canberra, monitor Abercrombie. For the French we have Henri IV and Hoche, German pre-dreadnought Kurfuerst Friedrich Wilhelm, Russian Orel and Peresvet or the cold war Kara, Kynda, Kashin, Kresta and Kotlin classes or the projected battleship Sovietsky Soyuz and many more. 20. An update on this, after speaking to Melaine at L'Arsenal we have decided to join forces on an update set, I will be designing etch and decals and they will design 3d printed accessories. We think this will provide the best of both worlds and should make for and excellent upgrade set for the kit. Mike
  21. We have a number of the new Flyhawk sets in today, 1:700 British aircraft with swordfish, fulmar and hurricane RN boats WW2 RN searchlights RN carley floats RN deck equipment RN oerlikons Restocks of the Aurora, Naiad and U-48 with dockyard set. In 1/350 HMS Hood super detail set HMS Queen Elizabeth super detail set. Also restocks of etched parts and other accessories. http://www.starling-models.co.uk
  22. Having had a look at the kit, my first impression that is lacks a certain finesse in quite a number of areas. One noticeable feature is how parts such as railings, ladders, barrels etc are much thicker than they really could be, it is almost as if the moulds have been spaced too far apart in some way. A lot of parts which could have been made as one piece such as vents, depth charges, carley floats have been made in two parts and if the fit is not good, these will all take a fair bit of work to make them look good. Generally though, and for the price, it is pretty decent, the parts count should ensure a fair bit of detail. I'll start work on a detail set, if anyone has noticed any particular areas requiring attention then just reply to this post and it will all help move things along. Mike
  23. Hi Kev, Will be getting delivered tomorrow. It seems on the whole to be a decent kit that needs some upgrade to bring the best out of it. I would like to look at what is needed to make an RN ship as well. I'll have a look tomorrow and over the next few days then give it some thought. Very happy to have input from yourself and anyone else in terms of what might be needed. Mike
  24. It still hasn't arrived in the UK but hopefully we be here soon. Mike
