  1. Are you doing this one for the UKAR GB that is slowly but surely falling to pieces...?
  2. Random

    It Begins!

Looking forward to this one, people
  3. The pit of for a P-51, but seeing as the radio is mostly hidden behind the bulkhead/fuselage, I'm not going to bother with scratching a new one or doctoring the kit one.
  4. Haha OK, thanks Mish!! I've managed to cock something up before the build has even started!!
  5. Ah yes, I though it was a bit quiet in here!! Am I still allowed to partake?
  6. Right, the stuff has arrived (I'm going to put in a big thankyou to Graham Relish Models here - superb communication and swift delivery; if you haven't shopped with him before, I thoroughly recommend him ) Anyway, here is what I have to work with: Tamiya 1/48 Mustang III RAF Aires Resin P-51B/C Cockpit Set I then sprayed the first coat of (mixed by sight) 'Cockpit Green'. It maybe green, but not really that cockpity, though I'm sure it will look fine all buttoned up. # Next Update: Completed Cockpit - ETA 22:00Z
  7. Hi Guys, Sorry this wasn't really much of a WIP, but the PC has died and it would be so much effort to take pics every step of the way, transfer and edit them on a crappy laptop etc., so I cracked on and got it completed! I didn't do it up as the 16 Squadron bird in the end, just as the OOB 54 squadron, as I felt that it would be a bit of a waste to buy a £12 decal set for something that didn't turn out amazing! As has been said, this was my first build in a couple of years or so, and I am happy with it - it may not be much compared to some people's stuff, but hey, I had fun! It's missing the pitot and a couple of small antennae in the photos, but these are now on. And before you ask, I know the landing lights are on the wrong way round. And I screwed up the canopy. And the loadout is wrong. And It was missing an engine in the photoshoot!! Hope you like it!
  8. In Sharkey Ward's 'Sea Harrier over the Falklands', he states that in 1982, the SHAR FRS1s were more than a match for US F-15s in a close quarters fight. Of course the Eagles had the option of plugging in the burners and running or going BVR. As for 'on their last legs', and I right in thinking there there were a number if new build aircraft dating from 1997 or thereabouts? Still, any aircraft is better than Surface-Air missiles. Three words: Sandys' White Paper.
  9. Well, it looks as though I have been beaten to the first Mustang (not really surprising!) and mine is to be Tamiya's 1/48 kit: Markings will be decided at a later date! First update early next week... Ben
  10. I'm going to be building the same kit as you, albeit in a different scheme and probably OOB. The spinner could well be white as remember you are looking at it through the blur of the black prop.
  11. Hi all, This is my first model in about two years!! An Airfix GR3A Jag, to be finished as the below 16 Squadron special tail aircraft. Hope you enjoy the build! The Real Thing: The box: The Bang Seat, the one that came with the kit - I couldn't be bothered to fork out £4 on a resin one, so I added Tamiya Tape belts, buckles and a guitar string 'noise handle'. I think it is alright The cockpit (apologies for the bad photo), it built up fine albeit with decal panels. I added a throttle out of the plastic-coated wire that came with my clamps! Any comments and criticism fully welcome, All the best, Ben
  12. Ok thanks guys! I think that Xtracrylics may be the way forward... All the best, Ben
  13. Thanks guys! I'm liking the look of White Ensign - good reviews and excellent choice. Anyone use them?
  14. Hi all, New here, but some of you may know me from UKAR or ARC (same username). I want to get back into modeling again - I'd say my skills are OK, I have an airbrush/compressor and have just ordered plenty of 'hardware' to start out, but I really need to work out which paint I'm going to stock up on. In the past I have used Humbrol Enamels (of course!), Tamiya and Xtracrylics but since I haven't touched any of the stuff for about 2 years the number of tins I have left are either empty or solidified. I would prefer to use acrylics, as I will be painting in the house until summer when I can move out into the shed! So, what would you recommend to me that can easily be sourced in the UK and have a good choice of colours? All the best, Ben
  15. Hi all, I'm new here, but some of you may know me from UKAR and ARC (same username). Anyway, I thought I should introduce myself with a banner for this GB - I'll join it when I decide what I want to make!! All the best, Ben
