That is a really nice job. I am not surprised that you had trouble fitting the cockpit. I have suffered greatly at Modelsvit's hands in the past in that regard.

Ed, you didn't say how you modified the wings. Cutting the rear section off would leave a very blunt trailing edge.

Ed, I have looked again at the drawing and your post and the gray line is the production version ( short nose and fatter fuselage) and the plain line represents the prototype so I think that I was right first time.

Sorry Ed. You are quite right. I must have been away with the fairies. I have an ambition to make the prototype and was concerned about the fuselage fatness and must have let that distract me and so I got confused about which version I was looking at. Age and Covid confinement have a lot to answer for!

I have just been comparing the model against Tommy's drawing and it appears that the fuselage length and the fin size match the drawing of the prototype rather than the production version

Just about everything, except for the wheels, is the wrong size and shape or warped. It probably wouldn't look too bad if you built it straight from the box except for the canopy which, for me, spoils the look of the whole thing. See here

As the rest of the kit is so inaccurate worrying about the fitting or positioning of pitot tubes brings to mind the old saying about re-positioning the deckchairs on the Titanic.

It never flew. It reached the stage of high speed taxi trials but the loss of its predecessor due to structural problems led to flight testing being prohibited.
Nice job on the model Robert. I thought about getting one for my collection of Russian prototypes but as it never flew I decided against it - wisely it seems.

Hi Ed,
Only just found this thread (why did you not tell me you were starting it?) so have not found time to read it all.
I have just remembered about the decals on the intake. I did not make them. They came from the spares box. They may even have come from the Fujimi kit used as a starting point.
Regarding the NACA inlets in the nose. My memory is not what it was these days and I tried several ways but I think that I ended up with making a cutout in a sheet of plastic and then embedding that in a hole in the nose using Milliput.
I am very interested in seeing how the masking works out.
You are a lot faster than I was. I think mine took well over a year with regular spells on the shelf of doom whilst I regained the will to live.

Just found this. It's faint but it looks like a fairing over the front end of the engine ending where the air enters the engine.

I thought about FOD cover but it looked a bit too far inside the intake.

Here is another view of the intake, which has been 'dodged' in Photoshop, which seems to show some sort of fairing but not the same as that of the XP-59
All that can be said is that it doesn't show valves, pipes and wiring

My first reaction was 'Wow, where did you find that picture?' then I realised it was the P-59. However on the Secret Projects site someone has come up with a lot of things I did not wish to know, namely that there are some basic errors in the fuselage in the Anigrand kit (Surprise!)

However in addition to those he pointed out that in some pictures of the XP-83 you can just make out a horizontal line in the centre of the intake which is where the fairing would be if it had one similar to the XP-59 so your first picture is a great help

I have just started an Anigrand Bell XP-83 and found an error. In the engine nacelle there is a part representing the compressor face. There is no such thing in the a/c as it has a centifrugal compressor. Pictures of the J-33 show a mass of pipes and equipment before the intake. When installed in the a/c was this protected by some sort of bullet fairing or was it left out in the breeze? A cutaway drawing in Steve Pace's 'X Fighters' book suggests the latter.
Can anyone please enlighten me?

I asked the same question in August last year, completely forgetting I had seen and replied to this thread (poor old thing, it's his age you know) and got no answers.
What I wish to know is did it first fly in that primer/MSG scheme or was the full camouflage applied? Why would roundels be applied if it was not going to fly? Surely masking them in order to paint around them must have been a fiddly job although masking off the centre and tidying up the outer edges after applying the camouflage would have a simpler job.
Isn't research interesting/frustrating?

The 525 first flew in a bare metal scheme. It was later fitted with a fin of increased size. It was also later painted cream. Does anybody know which came first? The model I am building has the original small size fin but I didn't fancy trying to replicate the bare metal scheme as it is a patchwork of different shades so I thought that I would settle for cream until I found that at some stage in its development the fin size was increased.
It's only a small thing but my curiosity has been aroused

Thanks Ed. I looked at their website when I first saw your WIP but couldn't see it. Must be getting old...One now on order. Must be getting old paying that much for a kit but as you say it's the only one in town.
