  1. OKB Mig by Jay Miller and Piotr Butowski gives the tyre sizes as 770x200 for the mains and 530x100 for the nose which equate to diameters of 10.7mm and 7.36mm respectively
  2. Being and fan of prototypes and experimentals I loved them. Great work. I hope to do the first prototype some day. John
  3. Good luck! I built the 1/72 version a while ago. http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234927844-nord-griffon-ii-fonderie-miniature-172/?hl=griffon I didn't even attempt to do any detailing. It was enough of a task to get it finished in its basic form. I had some correspondence with General Melchett about it and as a result he thought about making his 1/48 kit but after getting it out and looking at it I think that he gave a deep sigh and put it away agian! John
  4. Hi, I have only just found this post and skimmed through it so you may have covered the point I am about to make and that is... Is there not an issue with the spanwise positioning of the 'dog tooth' on the wing LE? Ref. the SAM publication on the Hunter by Paul Bradley. John
  5. Just remembered someone else had a problem with one of Chris's earlier post, a Lightning, and he was using the Chrome browser
  6. Nice job and original idea for the method of display. I'm curious about the kit. Is it a Tamiya original or a repop of the Hobbycraft version.
  7. Is it a problem with the browser? I use Firefox and have no trouble with Chris's posts. I notice that the size is 1024 wide. In the Sticky about posting pictures Mike recommends 800 x 600 for maximum monitor compatibility so maybe there is some incompatibility involved, although I have been using 1024, Photobucket and cropped pictures without comment.
  8. Can you please give us a side view? I would like to see the wheel size as I built the Revell version and converted it into the prototype but I reckoned that the wheels were too small.
  9. Thank you both for the kind words. Luis - As these a/c are some way from the mainstream one frequently has to make do with 'limited production' kits. These vary much in quality and accuracy. Some are almost rough cut blanks for a scratch build whilst others are very nice indeed. Those from Prop & Jet are almost in the 'exquisite' category. Hi-Planes seem pretty accurate but need lots of cleaning up. John
  10. As there was a lot of interest in the first post http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234975673-the-first-jets-from-my-collection-of-early-jet-ac/ here are some more First Jets_2 by johnrieley, on Flickr MacDonnell Phantom (the first one!)(MPM) Junkers 287(Huma) Aleksyev I-211(Amodel) Gloster Meteor F1(Dragon) Hawker P1040(Scratch ex Sea Hawk) Lavochkin La 150(Prop & Jet) Yak 15 (Revell) Yak 19 (A&V model) Sukhoi Su 9(K) (Prop & Jet) Most have featured individually in 'Ready for Inspection' John
  11. Yes, there are more. There's a Meteor F1, rather than a prototype, and a clutch of Russians. No Mig 9 or 15 yet. I'll try and get another picture if its sunny again tomorrow. One of the reasons for posting was to show how big the XP59 and Campini Caproni were because I was surprised when I saw them. John
  12. First Jets by johnrieley, on Flickr In case you don't recognise them Bell XP 59 )Amodel) Campini Caproni (Valom) Messerschmitt Me 262 V1 (Hi-planes) Gloster E28/39 (Hi-planes) Heinkel He 280 (Huma) Heinkel He 178 (Condor) I thought that showing them together would give an idea of the relative sizes There are more here http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234975742-the-first-jets-part-2-some-more-from-my-collection-of-early-jet-ac/ including some Russian a/c of which few have heard. John
  13. Thanks Colin. That cross piece is meant to be there as it is moulded as a separate piece and the instructions tell you to fit it to the wishbone. I built a Hobbycraft X-1 many years ago. It did not have the cross piece at the top of the leg and it fitted without trouble, as I recall. What I am having trouble working out is how the retraction system worked. If anyone has any information i would love to see it. John
  14. If you have the vacform sitting there I would give that a go. If that doesn't work out you then you can switch to a modern kit. Don't forget there is also a Special Hobby version available although can't pass any opinion about that. I certainly would not recommend the Amodel version unless you like a struggle. John
  15. Lovely work by a man after my own heart. I have ideas about building an XP80 one of the days (years?) John
  16. If Gisbod is who I think he is we have put up with his models making ours look second ( or should that be third?) rate at our club meetings... Nice work Guy John
  17. I wanted an XP59 for my collection of early jets so when I saw that Amodel had produced a kit of the version that was converted to carry a passenger in an open cockpit forward of the pilot I decided, despite my misgivings about Amodel products, that I would build that one. Once started my fears were realised and after fitting the wings it was put aside and sat on the shelf for several months until I felt strong enough to finish it. Not my finest effort but at least it's done and as I have not seen one of these on Britmodeller before here it is. There is one major issue with the finish. From the pictures I have seen by the time the second seat was fitted the paintwork was somewhat 'distressed' to say the least but I really couldn't face trying to emulate it. One final note. Stanley Hooker had a ride in this a/c when visiting the USA in 1943. Imagine Health & Safety throwing their toys out of the pram if your foremost engine designer took a ride in a bucket seat, probably without a parachute, in the front of an experimental a/c powered by highly experimental engines. From the pictures I have seen there wasn't much more than some sheet metal in front of the passenger. John
  18. Nice job on one of the prettiest a/c. That looks like the sort of project I could do with as a respite from trying to clear the 'shelf of doom' as I have one in the stash. Does anyone do a decal sheet for the red Belgian one that featured on the airshow circuit a few years ago?
  19. One end of the upper wishbone is supposed to fit into the u/c bay and the other attaches to the lower wishbone inboard of the wheel hub. Judging from pictures I can find I believe that it shoud be angled to fit into the top edge of the u/c bay. However it is much too long and will require much of the upper cross member to be cut away in order to get it to fit. I did wonder if the rear inside face of the rein u/c bay should be removed as the only picture of the a/c bay I have seen seems to show that it is posible to see through the bay.
  20. I'm building the Special Hobby Bell X-1A and can't get the u/c components to fit together. Has anybody had the same trouble and knows what's wrong? Alternatively does anybody know of pictures of the landing gear and inside the wheel wells? John
