  1. See if this works https://www.secretprojects.co.uk/threads/douglas-xb-42-mixmaster-and-xb-43-jetmaster.8699/page-3#lg=thread-8699&slide=10 John
  2. I said earlier (post 13) that I should perhaps start a WIP but was afraid that it might stall as everywhere I look there are things wrong. I am reminded of an old story/joke where a traveller asks a local how to get to another place and is told that 'if you are going there I wouldn't start from here' I think that the above chimes with Mike's comments about the vacforms. However now I have got this far I think that you are right. John
  3. Meanwhile back at the ranch... I have filled the gap around the raised tail and added sheet to raise the fuselage dept and slathered it with Milliput to fill in the gaps. The new, larger fin, is tacked in position. I think that the engine exhausts are now too high. The beat goes on... Attention is currently focussed on the cockpit area John
  4. Methinks my thread is being hijacked but as always when Tommy gets involved it's very informative. I have said this before somewhere but it's worth saying again. When Tommy passes on his brain shoulds be preserved and wired in to Google. John
  5. So I lengthen the fuselage but then I find that the tailplane is too low and I realise that as well as lengthening the rear fuselage I have to raise it at the same time now all I have to do is build up the top of the fuselage so that it bears some remblance to the actual a/c. Isn't this fun? I hope that you are enjoying this too. I should start a WIP thread but I fear that it might not get far. John
  6. More than they did when I had a problem. Just no reply. It occurred to me that if the fin had been correct I would probably have just built it without any further thought but once you lose your innocence... cheers John
  7. That same thought had occurred to me as there is an Anigrand kit of the XB-42. It seems a silly mistake to make. One (kinder?) possibility is that an XB-42 fin found its way in the XB-43 kit as the parts are individually cast and are not on a sprue.
  8. Nice collection of pictures with that unusual blue backdrop...not seen many of those this year.
  9. Well - here's a start. Now where did I put that Milliput... Buried deep in an XB-42/XB-43 thread on the 'Secret Projects ' forum Too easy.... and it would spend the rest of its days looking at me from the cabinet with a sad look in its eyes that said 'Chicken!'
  10. Being interested in prototypes and experimentals much of my modelling involves 'limited run' kits which cause some degree of aggravation and all of my latest have ended up on the shelf of doom. However for this one I thought that I would build it 'from the box' just to get somehing finished. Fat chance! The main landing gear did not appear to fit very well so I asked a question here about it and some kind souls provided me with photos. Whilst studying them a I thought that the fin looked a lot larger than that provided with the kit so I did some digging on the internet and came up with the proverbial can of worms. I found a dimensioned three-view and used this to give me a 1/72 drawing. This seemed to indicate that the wings and stabiliser were about the right size and shape but the Anigrand fuselage was too short. One of the a/c photos showed a side view so I scaled this to 1/72 and found a good correlation with the drawing. This revealed that not only was the fuselage too short but it was also much too shallow and the fin was so far undersize that it looked rediculous. Where does one go from here? Shelf of doom? Fit the right size fin and hope it looks ok? Or get out the saw and Milliput and see what can be done? Drawing with fuselage cut out and superimposed on a photo with kit fin for comparison Model as it is John
  11. Neither was I! I have have suffered at Anigrand's hands before but if it's the only game in town... I had the same thought when I saw it. The man who produces Prop & Jet kits manages to cast the resin around a metal core. If only others could do the same. Anyway thank you all for help. I can now see where the legs are supposed to be attached and I think that there is enough there for me to work something out but there are still a few unresolved matters.. That stub at the top of the leg (Anigrand) that doesn't appear to do anything. Where and how are all those doors attached. It would appear that it first flew without them. Presumably they couldn't trust them all to work. John
  12. I am building an Anigrand 1/72 version of the XB-43 and the instructions for fitting the main landing gear are minimal, to say the least. Can anybody please enlighten me as to how it should be done or provide me with pictures showing how and where it is attached to the a/c? John PS. What photos I have found on the internet sem to show that the gear legs supplied bear little resemblance to the real thing.
  13. I wonder how he got away those paint jobs for so long. Fine work and a great collection. John
  14. I have been doing the same thing, albeit in 1/72. Have you seen these? I have done a few more since, including a Vampire
  15. Back 1966/68. I remember being 'intercepted' by an F-102 when flying in a competition. Presumably someone saw a lot of strange traces on the radar and sent and a/c to investigate. Names like Rudi Alleman, Ed McClanahan, Jim Kay, Ron Chitwoodand Paul Pallmer spring to mind. They might mean something to your Dad.
  16. Over here Milliput retails at about roughly £20/pound depending on the grade and where you buy it. IT comes in 4oz/110g packs. Off topic - I see you are in Richland. I used to fly gliders out of there occasionally when I was working for Boeing in Seattle. Is the airfield still there or is it covered by housing these days?
  17. I looked it up on Google and it is £44.95 a tub. It should be good for that price. Does it come in smaller more affordable amounts? You can shape Milliput with water as well John
  18. I was surprised that it wasn't cancelled. I live 20 miles or so further west and the weather was appalling with gale force winds. John
  19. Straight from the box/Mach 2 seems like some sort of oxymoron...Lovely job
  20. Does that mean that it is being generated by Britmodeller and not some naughty person?
  21. A very drab sort of day that makes photographers wonder why they bother. It was too windy for the Edwardians and the Camel to close the show. Lots of visiting a/c so I have concentrated on those. De Havilland DH 9 The show started with a gaggle of gliders to celebrate 90 years of the British Gliding Association Schleicher ASW 28 Letov glider from Poland with its own towing plane Habich Slingsby Petrel Motor Tutor Dornier Do 28 with the Anson Antanov AN-2 came to drop parachutists Calidus Autogyro Two Rapides and the Dragonfly SE 5a Ron Palmer's ( I hope I got that right) recently restored example And then some of the usual suspects Comet Hurricane Avro 504 John
  22. Merlin's?? You of all people General. I hope the proof reader's (Haa) at Airfix catch it. Regarding the model my first reaction (OK - the second after admiration/jealousy) was 'Didn't De Havilland have a project like that - wonder what became of it? John
  23. Nice work but what caught my eye was all the details on the missiles. Did their application take as long as the rest of it? John
  24. Obviously the work of a complete nutter! Congratulations - it was worth the effort. John
