  1. Got a Canon 30D myself with a 100 - 400 l and a 24-105L

Thank you for the comments on the pictures, some of the horizons were not straight on the pictures, I should really alter them sometime; they're are some better ones on my flickr page (www.flickr.com/jamesv9820). To say yours were with a Point and shoot, they are very good indeed!

Very nice pics James, great quality I'm just a snap and shoot myself, used to be heavily into it but got lazy !!( plus having all my expensive stuff pinched whilst out in Africa.................well that kind of put me off for a while !!).

As I said elsewhere I actually enjoyed the day, just disappointed with the content, but that's how things are right now and I can't see them changing any time soon ,

    Cheers...

  2. Nice pictures, but I do have to agree with DamienB - yes the airshow circuit is not what it used to be, yes the Vulcan saga was a huge blow and upset a lot of people, but I thought the airshow was not that bad. Ok, there was only two fast jet displays, I was really impressed with the Rad Arrows this year as well as the Chinook Display..... As for car park madness; we drove straight on at 8am, crowd centreline and spent a chilled out day watching the display. As much as I hate to admit it, the glory days of airshows where you used to get tonnes of different planes, participating nations and all that stuff have long gone..

Anyway I've added a couple of my pictures from Alpha dispersal from Monday:

More on the Flickr page, def worth a look at some of the other pictures on there, might be something of interest to you

  3. Hi all,

Hope that you are all well. I was asked by a friend to build him a 1/48th Scale Tornado following the Tornado that I build for the Group Build. As I was feeling a little lost with my 1/32 Lightning Project I thought that this would be a good filler for me to clear my head! Anyway Its the standard build, Paragon Slats, Flaps, Bulged Tyres, Burner Cans and Model Alliance decals. A joy to build...

    Enjoy

  4. All,

    Thank you for your replies to my mail. Firstly Jim, thank you for the kind offer for the 1/48 probe. I would most probably balls the conversion up; either that or the cat would eat it ( I think you know what I mean by that!);

Ian, How quickly will you be producing the probe for the 1/32 Lightning, I would be very interested in buying one, so maybe you could drop me an e-mail?

Again, thanks guys for the assistance, its always good to bounce indeas off other people.

  5. Hi all,

I thought I'd bump this back to the top as I am going to be restarting the plane soon - I really would love to know if XR720 was fitted with a fuel probe though. I cannot find any pictures on the net of other side of this airframe to see if it was the case..

    Bill

Many thanks for your input on this, i always find everyone on BM so helpful, and willing to offer advise; so thank you!

  6. Hi,

I have been building the massive Trumpter English Electric Lightning (1/32 Scale) finished in 11sq XR720 Camo scheme (Dark Green/Grey) and have until recently lost motivation to complete the kit. I did not really want to rush and finish it, only too look a dogs dinner if that makes sense. One of the things I would like to do is to scratch build a fuel probe for the plane but have no ideas of dimensions or shapes of the said item. I have got a load of shots from my visits to the LPG (Thanks Guys) but wondered if any of you have come across a 1/32 scale plan or dimensions that I could plossibly work to? I was also unsure if anyone has a kit of this?

I presume the F3 Lightning was eventually fitted with with the said probe?

Any help any of you could give me would be great

    Regards

    James

  7. I mean once everything has offically been investigated and the offical release statement is out - that is what I meant. I know there are an awful lot of shots on the web and especially on flickr, but I would rather wait until the true facts are out rather than speculation from arm chair wannabes.

  8. Just caught the end of this thread - i do agree with the majority in this thread; however you cannot hide/escape what happed on 3rd May; I justthink that there will be a day after the report has been released when pictures can rightfully be posted.

Got a great view of it myself as you will probably see below

  9. Hi all.

Thanks for the comments. I will try and get the demarcation sorted out this week if I have time in between work. In answer to your question, it will be finished in 11sqm markings, XRF720 as per the Hannants decal set.

Looking good James , What markings is she going to be finished in ? :speak_cool:

    Andy,

Many thanks for your comment, will be seeing you on Sunday no doubt.

    Very nice looking, super :speak_cool:
  10. Hi All,

Made a little progress this weekend as you will see from the pictures. I have managed to get around to starting the camoflague on the upper surfaces of the airframe. I just wanted to know if the lines between the grey and the green are a little too soft? I had a bit of bad luck as the overspray of the grey /green hit the alclad and toned it down a little so i will have to respray the shortly.

Also a quick snap of the wheel (needs to be cleaned!) but it shows a difference to the kit as I have drilled holes through the hub to reflect a bit more accuracy; inside I have added a washer to represent the disc brake insode to hub.

Hope you all like, more to follow soon.

  11. Guys,

Thanks for the comments, and confirmation of the colour of the radome. Very slow progress on this one, I am just awaiting delivery of a few paints and decals for this and then I can press on with it.

Post some more pictures when I get more progress

  12. I have started work recently on the above kit, I'm sure many of you have seen the reviews and read comments on this kit, but I really had to buy one when they came out. Mad I know and to be honest the amount of detail and plastic you get for your money is not exactly great, for that reason I have not posted many shots of the interior as I did not think it would be worth it! Anyway either love it or hate it, here is the progress to date:

Prior to the photos taken I applied Tamiya X-1 (gloss black) to the underside wings, fuselage and readr wings before applying one coat of aluminum Alclad2. I am planning on building these up with more coats to stop it looking so patchy, including changing some panel colours to dark aluminum. I am planning to finish the F3 in 11sqn. markings complete with camoflage on top. For that reason, I have primed the reamining parts of the airframe in Tamiya XF-24 (Dark Grey).

One question for the people out there; what colour is the radome supposed to be? Is there a Humbrol or Tamiya paint match for this?

I have only taken a few photos, not the best in the world, but I hope you like:

  13. Hi All,

I have been really slack and not done any WIP photos of this model, just been really busy with work and stuff! Anyway It took a few months to do but here she is; XH134 finished in the "Final Canberra" Scheme of 2006. All built out the box, there are a few differences to the actual PR9 and the Airfix model, which i did not correct. In hindsight I wish I did!

    Anyway, on with the show:

As usual the model was finished with Promodel wash, and Klear.

The next which is also underway is the Trumpter EE Lightning in 1/32 scale - I will stick some photos of that on here very soon!

  14. Gents,

Wow! Thank you all for your comments, I didn't expect as many people to comment or give advice at all. Thank you

IV(AC)Plumb, I would welcome any shots that you have or any reference pictures. I was looking at RAF Marhams HAS Shelters on Google Earth, from their scale they seem to be around 60 metres x 25 metres for the main complex. Just by chance are you based at Marham at the moment?

Any information you have will be great

  15. Hi,

I have been toying with the idea for a while now to build a diaroma to properly pose my finished models in. One of the ideas i came across was to create a Aircraft HAS and pan surrounding it. I have thought about materials that can be used to create the has and surrounding area; perhaps the only thing holding me back is trying to get rough dimensions of such a HAS that you see all around our UK Bases. Would anyone know where I could obtain information or give rough sizes/ photos etc of these? I am aiming to build it up in 1/48th Scale, complete with Pan and taxiway if possible. I just thought it would be something different to display models on for photo purposes and to be honest a different project rather than bashing away at kits all the time.

  16. Right here we are! Completed at last!

It took me a while to complete it but I am really thrilled with the results. Its still not perfect and I have some engine covers to make for the intakes but I thought I would share these pictures with you - I hope that you like it and any comments are always welcome.

Just to let you know it was completed with a couple of layers of Klear, followed by dark dirt and black pro model wash and a bit of light weathering.

  17. Jussie,

For Shiny Two, you definately need to have a white background. You could try to trace around the decals while they are on the sheet to get the sizes and then transpose this onto the tail of the tornado, mask around it and then sparay it? Bit fiddly but got to be well worth it!

Hope that is some help. Sae yours in your group, coming on nicely, will have to have another look later as i'm off to work again! Roll on the weekend!
