  1. I usually set the camera up as follows:

    Always shoot on TV(Shutter Priority)

I start the ISO on 160 and progress up to 250/320 onwards as it gets darker. I have heard that the camera's ISO works better in increments of 160 (160/320 etc)

Shoot on Large .jpg and Medium RAW files

    Autofocus: Centre point with assists.

I do use a Canon 100 - 400 IS L, you mentioned that you use a 50 - 500. Are you finding your photos at the top end to be a little soft? The Mrs has a 120-400 Sigma lens and we bought the 7D's at the same time. She is finding that her lens just isn't cutting it and I think it is the optics on the lens. I have found shooting in RAW (even though the files are HUGE!) helps as even my 100-400 produces a lot of noise, but this is removed in LIghtroom easily. If I can be anymore help, please drop me a PM.

  2. Hi all,

I have not really posted on here for a while. To be honest I have not really had the chance to get out with the camera until the last few weeks.

As we all know, the V-22 Ospreys have been based at Mildehall so I could not resist the chance to get a few photos of them

I can honestly say that the 7D is a massive step up from the 30D! But it is a truely awesome camera!

  3. It has been a long time since I have built the monogram one, but I agree with the points made by the other members on here. In order I would rank the Hobbyboss version first, monogram second and Italeri third. to me the Hobbyboss one looks like and A-10A, although it has some shaping issues, it still looks right to me. It also comes complete with an array of weapons and includes the GAU-8 which can be built up but I left out so I could add weight into the nose. I do admit that the engine nacelles do need some wok on them and the fan blades are set too far foward. I have seen this correct on here by creating covers for the engines (I think Shaun built a superb A-10A on here?)

Here is the build up of mine from FC. Hope it is of some use to you. A-10A James V

  4. The Hobbyboss one is meant to be more accurate, got a SHED load of weapons as standard, movable flaps and airbrakes, rubber wheels. The standard cockpit is not too bad either. I have found (I have built all three kits) that the HB kit is easier to build as well. Saying that, the HB kit only comes with Euro1 camo scheme so if you were after making a two tone grey scheme you would have to buy some aftermarket decals

    Hope this helps.

  5. Ashley,

Some stunning shots there - i've only just come across this thread! I do envy your access but you have some cracking shots! Can alsway take you over to the mach Loop with your old man when you have time if you fancy it?

Hope the rest of your tour goes well. I will unfortunately not be able to meet up at the nationals this year; I'll be photographing Seals with a few of my mates so cannot make it

    Be Safe

  6. You have to ask the question if it is the Low fly photographers on the hill she has a beef with (seem to be ever increasing); I cannot talk as I try to go to Wales at least 3 - 4 times a year to get some different photos.

I must admit though the arguement for Low fly to be banned in LFA7t due to noise is silly. I think someone above said the Loop used to get 70 - 100 passes a day from everything, sometimes Vulcans at a stupidly low height so a few passes from Hawks, Harriers, Eagles and Tornado's are not really the same, the loop simply does not get a fraction of the traffic it used to. If the said MP wants to complain she wants to come live in my village - on an average week we get low flying planes (frontliners from Marham, Coningsby, Cottesmore/Wittering etc) at 300 ft over the house most the day and also F-15's and Eurofighters dogfighting at 7000ft making the most loudest noise possible, and for long durations. so which would she prefer? By the way, we had F-22's and F-15D's having a play at 7am the other week (awesome!). I do also find it amusing you never find many people int he Lakes (for example people in Windmere or Keswick) moaning about the same - those areas are a lot more densely packed.....

I understand the need for lowfly and training of these pilots to keep them current - I am very much for it, i just think NIMBY's who protest due to noise and or pollution need to get a grip or need to find somewhere else to live or simply understand the reasons why it is done. I am certain they will never accept the latter because they are those kind of people who probably have nothing better to do with life than whinge!
