  1. Stunning bit of scratchbuilding! The work on the nozzles alone is amazing. The rest is just showing off, just kidding. Great progress. -Jeff
  2. Might be cool little Christmas tree ornaments. If they arent too large. -Jeff
  3. No worries, just glad I could help. It would look odd with a 1970's looking driver in a 2000 jet. Cheers, Jeff
  4. If it's not too late, change the flight suit to tan (desert country) and the helmets to grey. They wear the HGU-55/P -Jeff
  5. Love the primer around the inlets and cockpit to show weathering. Great effect! Just a side note, 469 was an A-model but I'm assuming you used what you had on hand. Cheers, Jeff
  6. Very cool retro Vipers. Your work so far, is very impressive. I'm looking forward to future updates. Jeff
  7. Straight from 1C-135(K)(I)-1 "The air refueling boom consists of two concentric tubular sections which extend from a minimum length of 28 feet to a maximum length of approximately 47 feet." So, the grey outer tube is 28, and we've got 20 of inner, but only 19 will extend out to retain it's connection. Hope that helps. -Jeff
  8. I cant wait to you see tackle the paint scheme. Good luck with the minion -Jeff
  9. Saw the Fire Scout kit at the Hobbytown in Las Vegas last week. It listed for $38.99. They also have released the Army's RQ-7B Shadow. It was $11.99. From the pics on their site, they appear very nicely molded for the scale. -Jeff
  10. Impressive line up of Scooters. Airfix's intake decals wont conform because they printed the intake lip red stripe, striaght vertical, instead of with a curve that would conform and cover. But you tackled that hurdle with ease. -Jeff
  11. Looking forward to the pics John. And yes, I know you'll have yours done before I will have mine. -Jeff
  12. Very fine work on your Phantom. I especially appreciate the work you did on your weapons. Your ballast round will be my example, for my own build. -Jeff
  13. Gorgeous pair of "Eagles"! That ETPS bird is very striking.
  14. Trying to acquire the FA.2 conversion from across the pond has been a real pain the butt. So this kit will be welcomed by me so I can finally add this to my stash. Let's hope Airfix doesn't disappoint us. -Jeff
  15. To be honest, I'm a bug fan of the pre-Norm 90j camo scheme. The late 70's, early 80s saw a bunch of patterns being tested. One of my favorites being the "Wolkenmaus" or "Cloud mouse" scheme. For exercises, the units would add colored tails and stabs to their Norm 81 jets. It would make for a nice looking Phantom! Try here for ideas: http://www.jpsmodell.de/dc/brdlwmod_e.htm -Jeff
  16. Looks like I'll be on the ground at Mildenhall on Tuesday morning, April 14th for 24 hours. Obviously I won't have a car, so I'm hoping that a fellow photographer would like to meet up and shoot some pics around Lakenheath or even better, Marham. I'd gladly spring for lunch and gas. If anyone is interested, please reply here. Thanks! Jeff Stoermer
  17. Saw the TSR.2 kit in person at Sprue Brothers last weekend. Impressive detail. I just couldn't justify $45 for a 1/144 kit. I hope they sell well as we really do need to see more of the larger jets in 1/144. The space required for a 1/72 Vulcan is still at a premium in most homes/hobby rooms. -Jeff
  18. I'm about 75% complete on my 1/72 Fujimi FG1. I had intended to use the rubber tires and painted the hubs accordingly. When I assembled them, it looked like crap. The tires are way too shiny and new looking. So I'll respray the plastic wheels and use them. As for the airbrakes, I lowered mine just a bit to simulate pressure bleedoff in the system. Good luck! Jeff
  19. From the look of the photos, the new build Bf-109 are Emils? Curious as to where they expect to find DB601s (If my guess was correct). Personally, I've always liked the looks of the Friedrich more.
  20. Dr. Pepper resins is in the process of making a replacement nose to help in that area. I've seen the MLU for around $35 so it's not as huge of a hit on the wallet as the Tamiya.
  21. Instead of fighting the engine issues, why not save yourself the money for resin, and hide them with some engine covers? Steel Beach offers some great vinyl covers, in various colors. Then go to town adding some scratchbuilt bits to the cockpit. Because it does lack the LASTE updates, it is perfect for a 80's early 90's A-10A. That JAWS scheme is one I've always wanted to do anyhow. Good luck!
  22. I was fortunate to score a TDY to Kenya back in the mid-90's. We operated 4 MH-53J Pavelows from Laikipia AB for 3 weeks, then got a week in Nairobi awaiting out airlift home. I'm not sure as to where on the airport we were exactly, but there was a former Somali An-26 sitting derelict there. Has it been removed? Thanks for sharing in your "adventure". -Jeff
  23. I'm a noob in regards to the TSR2, so please bear with me. Since the TSR2 was primarily a strike aircraft, would it have any use for an IRST or any IR viewing systems? Granted this is the 1960s, but for a What-If, this could be a possibility for a future upgrade. Would something like the undernose fairings on the Tornado work? Or something more integrated with the airframe? More food for thought as I too hope to build my own What-If TSR2 this year. -Jeff
