Ian we're beating a dead horse here. You as everybody else took it as I said it was wrong for them to like rivets. I wish before you and everyone else jumped on me find where I said it was wrong to like rivets. I never said that I was right and they were wrong. I simply said that the rivets are over scale and wouldn't be visible at scale distances. I said that scale is mathematical and not debatable. Everyone took that as they were wrong for liking them. Again I never said it was wrong for them to like rivets. Yet that's what everyone proclaims in all their endless rebuttals.

Let's get over this stupidity. If anyone has the right to be offended it's me. I'm the odd man out and everyone has treated me like I insulted their mother and children. I think at some subconscious level modelers feel they have to be accurate. When I came along and said the rivets are inaccurate, their psyche took it as a personal assault. For that they came after me.

I never said  it wrong for anyone to like the rivets. I only said they're over scale and I don't like them. For that I've been attacked as if I don't have a right to have my own opinion. Let's get over this and move on.

    Be well

    Ron

Well, Ron, I was trying to be nice about it, but you’ve just attacked me for my opinion so we’ll leave it there.

    Happy modelling my friend.

Whatever. You're right, I'm wrong. It's not important enough to me to argue endlessly over semantics. Enjoy your new pock marked wonder kits.

I think what’s clear in this discussion is that everybody has their own opinion, which is great and has generated healthy discussion. However,  just because you don’t like rivets on your kits, it doesn’t mean those that do are wrong.

Personally, I love kits with fine, recessed rivets, I can’t tell you why, I just do. What I do know is that I think kits with minimal surface detail look like toys, but that’s just my opinion, doesn’t mean I’m right. It does mean I will still  buy a kit with minimal surface detail though, if it’s a subject I’m into, it’s not a deal breaker.

Clearly this isn’t a kit for you, but who knows, maybe another manufacturer will produce a kit better suited to your tastes.

My wife has said that to me on occasion.  Id didn't fall for it, I knew if I did it would be held against me in future disputes.

    😂

  4. As the title says, I’m after one of these if anybody has one sitting in the stash they aren’t going to get round to.

Can either pay cash or preferably trade, I’ve got lots of Eduard single engine fighters to trade,  (109’s, 190’s, Spitfires, Mustangs.)

    Many thanks.

  5. I, until recently, thought I’d got as good as I was going to get with my modelling. But after an increase in mojo for the last twelve or so months, which shows no signs of stopping, I’ve found each finished model, at least to my eye, is better than the last one.

I try to use a new technique on each build, put into practice methods and products I’ve seen being used on the phenomenal builds on here.

I’m by no means new to this hobby, but for my last build, I used oils for the first time, I also used a riveting tool for the first time and realised you can teach an old dog new tricks.

I build for myself and I don’t think I’ll ever be at competition standard, even though I’d like to be, but I’m fine with that.

I accept that there is a limit to how good you can get at anything but I’m very happy where I’m at as a modeller if this is it for me and I’ve reached that limit.

Hi guys, thank you. And I absolutely agree that the weathering could/should be stronger - but frankly I’m not very good at weathering. I will probably try some streaks and dirt. Anyway I enjoyed the build a lot - and that’s the most important thing in our hobby I would say 😄

It’s your model, build it and finish it how you want, which you clearly have done and it’s beautiful.

My last build I that posted on here received comments of too heavy panel line wash for the weathering, so it just proves the point you can’t please everybody 🙂

Thanks Daldroflas, VERY good prices on airfix, but everything else is still at a ridiculous price.

The problem is that Wonderland are so much more expensive than other shops, that even with the discount, you can get cheaper elsewhere.

Agreed, their prices at Telford were eye watering!

Really? Unrealistic for someone to put a small slip of paper next to a model they are displaying for the public? I wonder if museums, galleries and the like think if you want to know which period or civilisation it came from or who painted it, you should just ask someone if "you're that interested". Yeah signs, totally unnecessary and a terrible inconvenience to produce.

You’re not asking for someone though, you're demanding everybody does and it should be against the law if people don’t do it to suit you and you alone. We aren’t talking about  museums or art galleries though, are we, so don’t be ridiculous.

I’m going to stop before I get banned on here,

you take care mate, enjoy your modelling and slips of paper have a great day.

Hi @IanF and @bentwaters81tfw. No, I wasn't being deadly serious as nobody died. But having said that, I do think it's actually quite helpful and not exactly difficult to plonk a piece of paper next to a model just saying, for example, 1:48 Hasegawa F-4B Phantom. Perhaps if you just happen to be considering buying and building an F-4B Phantom and you happen to be at an exhibition, then it can be an opportunity to see and compare finished examples of Hasegawa's, Tamiya's, Academy's etc versions. I wouldn't expect people to list aftermarket, paint references, brand of glue used etc. And if it is a kit bash, then '1:48 Phantom kit bash' would suffice and you can then ask if you want to know more. I've only once displayed a kit at a model show and I did it and it really wasn't any trouble. And to be fair, I think the majority of exhibitors do manage it.

I didn’t ask if you were being deadly serious, I just think you’re being unrealistic, expecting everyone to put a description at the side of their model because you want to see it.

Jeez, just ask somebody on the stand if you’re that interested.

This is important, and another that is probably not unique to SMW, but it should be AGAINST THE LAW to display any kit without an adjacent label/sign stating the scale, a description of what has been modelled and most importantly, the kit used! Whilst the scale is usually apparent, and I guess at the least the nationality of the type modelled is fairly clear, it's not always very clear whether I'm looking at a Tamiya, Hasegawa, Academy, Italeri etc Phantom. But maybe that just tells me that the skills on display prove you can make any kit look as good as the best kit, or that everyone displayed the best kit?

You aren’t being serious here, surely not??

Not for 2023 but 24 and beyond. I had a chat with the lovely team at HKM who confirmed they had plans for next year for early Boston's (reworked fuselarge,  engine covers and nose - he said it felt like it's basically a completely new aircraft) and he wouldn't give any more details other than more 1/32 fighters will come from them which sounded promising.

    neil

I spoke with them too regarding the Boston, they confirmed the 1/48 and also said eventually they’ll be doing it in 1/72.
