  1. Cheers Tony. Checked there, and got my eye on a Jag / Hawk unboxed combination. It's an auction though, so can't be confident it will not go for a stupid price.
  2. I'm casting about for some kits to get in stock, and I really want an Airfix Jag or two to squirrel away. I can't find one anywhere. Does anyone know of one online, or seen one on a shop shelf somewhere? Any leads gratefully received.

    DIY spraybooth

Thanks for the discussion everyone. I knocked up a rudimentary booth from a big plastic storage chest and a cheapo B&Q fan. It's not great, in that I can still smell paint when I've tested with an aerosol, and it doesn't seem to 'suck' much. However, there is definitely paint in the exhaust tube, so a good bit of it is being removed. On the whole, better than not using, and will do until I get round to building a more elaborate version.

    DIY spraybooth

Yup, sorted yesterday. (My wife is a doctor, so I can't get away with stuff like this! )
  5. Agreed. A bit dull to my eyes. My thoughts exactly!

    DIY spraybooth

Sorry, do you mean sprayed Xtracolour and cheap B&Q Bathroom Extractors?! (Not taking the p**s, I genuinely thought it a nice turn of phrase )

    DIY spraybooth

Cheers Mike. Was thinking more of the simple wall extractor fans rather than a cooker hood, but that's a good idea too.
  8. After priming my Gannet last night, I have grey bogeys. I need a spraybooth. I'm hoping to go down the DIY route, with a bathroom / kitchen fan. Reading around I've seen a few posts about being careful about fire risk. My question is essentially this: Has anyone ever had a fire start whilst spraying? Is it a genuine risk, or would it be a safe piece of kit to make. Thanks for any replies.
  9. Wow. Love the compressor fan. Thanks for posting.
  10. If it was from a kit, I'd admire it greatly. But scratch built takes it to another level, what a stunning model.
  11. Really nicely done. Going to have to pick one up for the stash.
  12. Glad the thread has been of use to someone else too! Genuinely interesting to learn of the use for the bulges too. Cheers all, Gareth
  13. Thanks Walrus. I had wondered what they were, and assumed Radar Warning Receiver or some such, but never got round to looking it up.
  14. Hehehe That's cool. I guessed the donors correctly too, not quite lost all my faculties yet!
  15. Thanks chaps. Dean, I had thought of that, and it might be that I end up doing it. Cheers, Gareth
  16. Does anyone know of a specific match for the blue in the RAF roundels on the Revell Hunter FGA.9? Mine have got horribly stretched and distorted trying to make them sit down over those 'whatever-they-ares' on the upper wing surfaces. I could do with touching them in a little bit. Quite how I expected them to sit down I don't know, but I had them glued on and painted before I realised the decal went there. (In another example of spectacular failure to think things through I've taken the masking off the windshield and canopy before I've applied the flat coat! ) I never used to be this thick!
  17. So, after the relative success of my Hunter F.6 I was buoyed up to start the FGA.9. I was really chuffed that it was going a little better, cleaner seams, better cockpit, nice silver underside and red wingtips, tail and spine. Then I came to put the grey on last night and made a huge mess of it, spraying the paint too thick and compromising the lovely surface detail. Still, I understand why the paint didn't cover and sucked me in to the mistake of throwing more at it, so it's a good lesson. Oh, well, :shithappens: a minor setback. I'm not going to strip it, but paint the green, decal it and move on. Perhaps my Gannet will be better?! Just thought I'd share the joy!
  18. Fellow returnee here. That's a nice little Jag. I can't imgine how my fingers would react to 1:144! 1:72 is proving a struggle for me.
  19. There really is. In the top pic the gloss finish and reflections just look absolutely spot on for scale. Or something. Er.....it just 'looks' right. Lovely model.
  20. Great idea for the diorama, and I have to agree that the figures are really refreshing to see. Really nicely put together.
  21. I've only just seen some of the replies in this thread, after catching up after a weekend away. Thanks for the positive comments and critique everyone.
  22. Thanks for the comments everyone. I wouldn't say it was brave to use the dark wash Mike, more like foolhardy. I had no idea what I was doing! I hope my Mk.9 is half as good as yours. Is that washed or preshaded? Cheers, Gareth
