  1. Some number of Mk IXs and VCs were built at Castle Bromwich with a smaller leading edge cannon-mount casting without the outer cannon stub throughout 1943. The outer stub was officially reintroduced in November 1943 in anticipation of the upcoming .5/E type armament. Here is the factory drawing showing this 1943 arrangement:
  2. This was on the Supermarine production line as early as April/May 1941! It didn't appear on the Castle Bromwich line till about a year later when they started construction of Mk VCs.
  3. Going off the top of my head, at that point in time/production it should have left the factory with the Mk III internally armoured windscreen, De Havilland propeller, early exhaust stacks, perhaps landing lights, TR.1133 or 1143 radio set and corresponding aerial mast without wire, "cheese cutter" IFF aerial wires, and probably the Grey/Green scheme by the time it saw squadron service. I may have a few things wrong however.
  4. I've seen both camo and the interior colour, though the latter may only really be on Seafires. (Inauthentic restoration may also be a factor!)
  5. I've seen a photo of the installation somewhere but I can't find it at this time.
  6. Making a 3D model for sim use and I'm wondering if anyone has the line drawings for the 2-stage Griffon Aero Vee filter? The specific sheet is 35638 Sheet 33 from the F Mk 21 drawings (or 38838 Sheet 11 from the Seafire 46 set). I have the line drawings for the engine cowl but not the filter!
  7. Anyone know the colour of the internal framework of the windscreen? I've seen both black and cockpit green used; the photos in the pilots notes also seem to show both variably throughout the different variants. I'm leaning towards black during the war and green postwar?
  8. I'm considering making a 3d model of the Spiteful for sim use. I have all the geometric data to model the basic shapes accurately (I have all the wing data; the fuselage is broadly the same as the Spit F. 22/24 below the datum line and behind frame 19, though details obviously differ, especially the spar attachments; above the datum the fuselage has a new cross section but the side outline is the same as the high-back Spit); more granular detail will require production drawings. Does anyone have any I could get access to?
  9. I found these brilliant shots on this website; I've never seen them before and they appear to have been uploaded to the internet recently. All that's needed now is a decent shot of the windscreen structure and I'd be satisfied! (or production drawings, if they survive)
