  1. That looks really great - is it about 1/48 scale? Hannants have the 1/72 Bandai PG Falcon in for an eye watering £349.99; I'm sure it's worth every penny going by the standard of the 1/144 version I managed to get hold of, however it's going to be a long time before I can afford one! Karl
  2. That is an excellent scratch build you have done there, the base/stand is a specially nice touch - looks great. Karl
  3. I have seen a Swift scratch built by someone on a Facebook group, and it was very impressive, including it's size; I think it's much bigger than the Eagle and in 1/48 would be massive. ...Mmmm.... Karl
  4. Yep - them little cargo boxes / containers should be no problem Karl PS - The ship - I don't believe it's cannon; think I've seen it on a Facebook fan art group before. Interesting design though.
  5. Thank you very much chaps for all of your kind comments. Cheers Karl
  6. Thanks Mark - I'm might give myself a rest and do a few kits first I think!! Karl
  7. Here is my completed 1/48 scale scratch built Hawk Mk.IX from Space:1999, as seen in the episode titled "War Games". I have been wanting to do a 1/48 scale Hawk ever since I had the equally mad idea of making a scratch built 1/48 Eagle back in 1999. I tried to get as close to the 'screen' model as my ability and sanity would allow; orange over white with white anti-glare panels and subtle greys and silvers to pick out the panels and dark weathering powders to bring out the highlights. For comparison, all in 1/48 scale, the Eagle has flown in with our two curious Apollo astronauts, and an interloper in the form of a Naboo N1 star fighter from Star Wars the Phantom Menace. I really enjoyed the process of building this model, especially with it being from scratch; overcoming the the problems of structural integrity, building some quite complex shapes and finding bit's to use on the ship from all sorts of unexpected places... like the bathroom cabinet! The original build can be found here Space:1999 - 1/48 Mk.IX Hawk - Scratch Build Hope You like it. Karl
  8. The last of the details have been painted and the final assemblies have been attached to the ship permanently. I have used some weathering powders to add a bit of grime and highlight some areas, but not too much; I don't want to make it look like I've rolled it in the Lunar dust! I'll post the final pictures in a new RFI post: Space:1999 - 1/48 Mk.IX Hawk - Scratch Build - Complete Karl
  9. A small update - but big step forward. The Hawk is now in it's basic colours of Orange over White. I've done the 'on screen' version and gone with white anti-glare panels on the beak/cockpit. The White is Halfords white primer buffed up and the Orange is Humbrol 46. Next I need to do the detail painting and picking out some of the grey panels and the gun pod nose cones and panel lines, etc. I also need to install and paint the RCS thrusters. Karl
  10. That's a definite maybe boss... it's not even arrived yet though!!! 😎 Karl
  11. Cheers, I will definitely do a WIP whenever I get around to building it! Karl
  12. Keep working on the MPC Falcon (don't throw it!!) I had one when I was a kid and I now want one to accurise; one with shallower side wall's and engine detail, etc. The Fine Moulds is an amazing kit with outstanding detail, and represents the ship with five landing struts. The Bandai kit is like the MPC kit and represents a three landing strut version but with far, far more detail. Plus, there is always the Lego version..... Karl
  13. I don't know how I'm going to try and persuade the Mrs to let me get one of these. She already got me the Fine Moulds 1/72 Falcon and I've just scored an original MPC version from eBay with her blessing, along with several other Star Wars kits. Might be a step too far..... 😉 Karl
  14. That is an excellent looking Phantom you have there, well done. Karl
  15. Superb work, excellent painting. The B-Wing is one of my favourite Star Wars ships. Karl
  16. That is extremely impressive - excellent work. Karl
  17. That looks really good Kallisti. I like the all white scheme, and this is how I have my old MPC Airfix model done. Great job! Karl
  18. A quick update on my Hawk. I have re-taken a couple of pictures of the Hawk in it's grey primer with a different camera - my usual Galaxy mobile phone; I think they are much better. I've also made them a bit bigger ...and on that note, and I don't have any pictures as yet, but she is now a lovely shade of Halfords white primer. all over. As I'm doing the orange 'screen' version, I've done a few test shots with some orange paint candidates on white (some old Tornado wings) Left to right on the top wing - Humbrol 18 - Tamiya X6 - Humbrol 46 Humbrol 18 looks too red, I love the Tamiya X6 but it might be a bit too tangerine so I'm going for the Humbrol 46 as it's orange but also a bit yellow and to my eyes just haw it appears on TV with their lighting and effects. Thanks for looking again! Karl
  19. Thanks Mike. I'm using IrfanView as it's really easy to resize the pictures - I reduced the jpg compression on the second lot of pictures but I'm using the original source pictures and I think that is where the problem is. Cheers. Karl
  20. I had a feeling when i took the pictures they weren't very good... used my usual camera (a little Kodak point and shoot) that I normally use. I've resized them again and saved them with a bit more detail i hope. Hope these are better! (EDIT) I think they are just as bad... 😞 - I'll use a different camera next time. Cheers.
  21. With construction complete, it's time for a bit of paint. First up is the usual coat of Halfords Grey primer to show up any surface defects. I spent quite a bit of time fettling the surfaces to get as good a finish as I could and this appears to have paid off as there is very little in the way of blemishes that need re-filling. I actually like the grey primer finish, looks very combat ready and mean... Karl
  22. The majority of the construction work for the Hawk is now complete. All that's left is to attach the main sub assemblies and I'll probably do that after the painting stage as it will be easier to paint the weapons pods and solar/sensor array and booster engine bells off the Hawk. The RCS thrusters will also be added at this point I think I am going with the white and orange scheme with the white ant-glare panels on the cockpit. I need to decide on what orange to use; I think that the Humbrol 18 is a bit too orange/red and I need something a bit more orange/yellow. This is where I am up to now with construction. 20180714_121429 by karl wb, on Flickr 20180714_121436 by karl wb, on Flickr 20180714_121400 by karl wb, on Flickr 20180714_121545 by karl wb, on Flickr 20180714_121551(0) by karl wb, on Flickr Next stage is to spray with grey primer and fix any blemishes. Then over spray with white primer and then detail with the orange. Thanks for looking. Karl
  23. A bit more progress with my Hawk build. The command module or 'Beak' surface was detailed with thin plastic sheet. The nose cone was made from the end of a 1/48 Tornado fuel tank that was cut down and the pointed end re-profiled. Installing the beak; This was fixed with glue for the plastic to plastic areas and P38 pushed in to the beak's cavity. Window frames were also added at this time. h112 by karl wb, on Flickr h113 by karl wb, on Flickr The beak and forward fuselage joint was then blended together using some more P38 car body filler. A mounting area was also installed for the tiny rectangles that fudge the joint between the beak and the fuselage on the studio model. h117 by karl wb, on Flickr The Hawk has some quite distinctive slotted strips in the corners of the anti-glare panels and under the cockpit windows. These were made from plastic strip cut to size and then glued together. when dry, they were installed in place. h121 by karl wb, on Flickr h122 by karl wb, on Flickr h123 by karl wb, on Flickr You will also notice that the wing-lets have been installed and the leading edge detailed. (This picture was taken before I blended the fuselage to the beak) h116 by karl wb, on Flickr The rectangular weapons pods have also been made. The main part was simply two strips of sheet styrene stuck together and detailed. The pylons are (again) made from some left over tornado parts that have been modified. h120 by karl wb, on Flickr Thanks for looking Karl
