  1. Another little update, here are the two 'winders that came with the kit. Not sure if they were ever carried with this scheme but I thought I'd paint them up anyway! I have joined the two fuselage parts, just the intakes and IFR probe to go on and then I'll need to fill in a few seams before she will be ready for some paint! You can just about see the little loops of wire I added in the burner cans to add some interest.
  2. Wow, you've really brought that Aires resin to life!
  3. A quick shot of the seats and the cockpit before I join the two halves of the front fuselage together. The decal instruments don't look too bad in this scale, I added belts with some Tamiya tape and an ejection handle using a thin bit of wire. Getting it into a tiny loop was a pain
  4. Yup, it doesn't need to be thinned at all. Just make sure you have the area primed with a dark acrylic colour (or a coat of clear over a dark enamel), and that the area is clean and there are no fingerprints or dirty marks. Alclad High Shine needs a gloss black base to work properly. Spray at a low PSI, and close in. A bit like you were using a brush.
  5. Alclad does produce some lovely results! Which shade did you use?
  6. Don't worry! Using these websites I have sorted it out. http://www.jpsmodell.de/dc/draw/n87d_tor.jpg http://www.paint4models.com/paintchart/pai...rsionchart.html Good point, once I have decided how I want the wings I'll definitely do that.
  7. Does anyone know what the FS numbers are for the paint scheme on this one? The Revell instructions want me to mix some colours together and don't give any FS numbers!
  8. I've completed all the sub-assemblies I can before I need to start painting anything. The fuselage went together really well, only a few spots where I will need some filler (where the fin meets the spine, front of the wing gloves and the 'Z' shape join just infront of the tailplane. The only area I might try to improve is the exhausts. Where the flame holder would be is just a flat, completely blank bit of plastic which is in contrast to the rest of the kit. The other bits I have managed to do: The cockpit parts: The underwing tanks are drying at the moment, there was a little bit of a seam where they joined together but that my just be my fault
  9. What did you do about locating the wings properly? Do they sit ok without the locating pins?
  10. Finally she is complete! There were a few last minute scares, mainly the masking of the fin took a little bit of the blue outline off (clearly not enough Klear on that area!), but I had loads of those decals left so I just about fixed it!
  11. Here is a shot of the sprues that came with the kit. The detail is really quite good, the cockpit detailling is just a few decals so I might add some wiring if I think it will make a difference (the canopy will have to be closed on this one). I'll have my Jag finished tomorrow so I should start in the week
  12. Thanks. The one in my sig shouldn't be too bad. But I am planning on building at least one of every version of Tornado in service with the RAF and some German and Italian ones all in 1/48. I know a lot of the German and Italian ones are very dirty!
  13. As it is such a prominent feature on the Tornado, how do you acheive this distinctive pattern of weathering on the fin? I am new to weathering and need all the pointers I can get! Thanks.
  14. I'm not normally a 1/144 person either. But this was a gift, and I don't have time to complete a 1/48 Airfix Tonka for this GB!
  15. I may have knocked it off while masking I'll put it back on once the Klear has dried, I have knocked it off about 5 times in total now!
  16. All the decals are on, and a protective coat of Klear is drying as we speak. The tail took many hours to do just because of the blue outline! I needed a lot of MicroSol to get it anywhere near decent. A quick wash will go on tomorrow along with any weathering, and then a flat coat. Stick on the undercarriage and stores and we are done, easy!
  17. Late entry, but I will be making this IDS using the Revell 1/144 kit. http://www.airliners.net/photo/Germany---A...-IDS/0764057/M/
  18. I have only just stumbled across this group build, and as there is not long left my entry will have to be a small one! I will be using this kit straight from the box: The kit looks really nice, the detail is fantastic for the scale, lovely recessed panel lines and a great set of decals. It's a shame I didn't join sooner as I finished a 1/48 Airfix GR1 in November! :shithappens:
  19. If it is what I think you mean then there is not. It also has some antenna on the fin which apparently should not be there and I have had to remove at the last minute.
  20. This is my first in progress thread here, I am building this as part of a group build on ARC so it is nearly done and should be finished in the week. The kit is the one from the Frontline Fighters double pack, and looks to be the same as the GR1 kit, but with different decals. I have added a Pavla resin seat, Paragon exhausts, chaff dispensers and cannon bulges, the Eduard PE set (albeit for the GR1) and the Model Alliance Jagar Special Schemes Part 1 decal sheet. This is what I hope to replicate: http://www.airliners.net/photo/UK---Air/Se...GR3A/0798428/M/ I've used various techniques and products for the first time in this build, so hopefully it will turn out ok! First, some shots of the kit straight out of the box: There are a few issues with the quality of the moulding. On the fuselage there is an odd grainy texture to the plastic, and lots of the small parts and the landing gear had 'steps' where the moulds were not aligned correctly. The undercarriage bays are pretty sparse in detail, so I added in some wiring and some other detail using spare bits of plastic and some filler. Here it is built and almost ready for painting. I had to use quite a lot of filler, especially around the cannon fairings, the wing/fuselage join and the APU(?) behind the cockpit when adding the PE parts from the Eduard set. I also filled in the vents on the side of the intakes and rescribed the panel lines where the vents are, I couldn't afford to buy the lovely looking resin ones! The Pavla seat is a great improvement over the kit part and the PE in the cockpit did make quite a difference. Here she is after much filling and sanding with most of the painting finished: And with all the painting done, a coat of Klear and most of the decals on. This is the first time I have used Alclad, and though you can't see it in this photo it does look infinitely better then normal metallic paints that I have used. The decal sheet looks lovely, but it is missing a few stencils as far as I can see and the layout plan in the instructions could be better. It incorrectly labels some decals and doesn't tell you where others should go! Right now I have nearly finished the decalling, just the right side of the tail to go. The thin blue strips used for the outline are really fragile and seem to break for no good reason but I am getting there slowly.
