Sadly none of those a GR.1Bs I want to do one that looks like this: http://www.airliners.net/photo/UK---Air/Pa...GR1B/1687633/M/ Xtradecal do a sheet with ZA447 on which was a 1B, and they have 617sq decals on it, but I can't find a picture to confirm if it was ever on 617sq, the only photo I can find from the right dates is in 12sq colours which are not included on the sheet. http://www.airfighters.com/photo/43783/M/U...ado-GR1B/ZA447/ All the others are either of it as a GR4, or in Granby colours. Confusing

This one looks grey, but I reserve the right to be wrong http://www.abpic.co.uk/photo/1148681/ Also, a Sea Harrier GR.3 anyone? http://www.abpic.co.uk/photo/1162892/

Have you got an aftermarket second chin pod, or are you going to scratch build one?
-
That would be brilliant, thanks. Do you know which airframe they are for so I can find some photos?

I'm entering with a 1/48 Airfix GR.1B, not seen many of them modelled. The kits is the usual Airfix offering with the sprue containing the Sea Eagle from the Bucc added in for good measure. Options are a 12sq or 617sq bird, but the decals don't look great to me, so if anyone knows where I can get an aftermarket set for a GR.1B that would be great. I've also got the Airwaves PE for the cockpit, not sure if it needs an extra display in the back though for the Sea Eagle.

This isn't neccessarily for this GB, depends on time, but does anyone have the Model Alliance 'Tornado at War' decal sheet, and would be willing to sell/swap the decals for the Italian sand/silver scheme? Thanks!
-
Another GR1.B question. In the cockpit I think they added a Martel(?) display from the Bucc for the Sea Eagle. Does anyone know where it was placed, or have any photos of the GR1.B cockpit?

And apparently the reason that both are(were) in operation at the same time is that one had better flight characteristics for certain missions then the other, so both were kept operational.

Thanks very much. So assuming the list on Tornado-data is correct, these are all the GR.1B's: ZA374 ZA375 ZA399 ZA407 ZA409 ZA411 ZA450 ZA455 ZA457 ZA460 ZA465 ZA741 ZA474 ZA475 ZA490 And all the GR.4 upgraded GR.1B's: ZA446 ZA447 ZA452 ZA453 ZA456 ZA459 ZA461 ZA469 ZA473 ZA491 ZA492 Looks like I'll be doing the 12sq option then! Unless I can bodge a 617sq serial number.

I think so. This illustrates it quite well: http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=7781

What they do (stolen from a well known online encyclopedia): "LERX are small fillets, typically roughly triangular in shape, running forward from the leading edge of the wing root to a point along the fuselage. On a modern fighter aircraft they provide usable airflow over the wing at high angles of attack, so delaying the stall and consequent loss of lift. In cruising flight the effect of the LERX is minimal. However at high angles of attack, as often encountered in a dog fight, the LERX generates a high-speed vortex that attaches to the top of the wing. The vortex action maintains a smooth airflow over the wing surface well past the normal stall point at which the airflow would otherwise break up, thus sustaining lift at very high angles. Su-27UB with LERX LERX were first used on the Northrop F-5 "Freedom fighter" which flew in 1959,[1] and have since become commonplace on many combat aircraft. The F/A-18 Hornet has especially large examples, as does the Sukhoi Su-27. The Su-27 LERX help to make some advanced maneuvers possible, such as the Pugachev's Cobra, the Cobra Turn and the Kulbit." As to why they didn't just start off with 100% I don't know The LERX's are the triangly things comming off the wings just behind the cockpit in this photo: http://www.flightglobal.com/airspace/forum...-out-70721.aspx

The pics in this thread might help, http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=70294

I've got the Airfix kit, which comes with decals for ZA470 (617sq) and ZA490 (12sq). I had a look on Tornado-data.com and it seems ZA490 was definitely a GR.1B, but it doesn't seem to think ZA470 was, can anyone confirm either way? Thanks.
-
Ah, I see! I did that bit wrong then too I made the assumption that the engine face part should be a tight fit around the fuselage sides, never mind, next time!
-
Thanks for the help on that, B3 is the part that attaches to the bottom of the LERX part. I put these two together first, so is probably where I went wrong! Oh well, time to crack out the sandpaper!

I'm thinking of doing a 1/48 Airfix GR.1B as I've never seen a B modelled, the Airfix kit comes with decals for ZA470 or ZA490. I had a look on Tornado-data.com and it seems ZA490 was a GR.1B, but it doesn't seem to think ZA470 was, can anyone confirm either way?
-
Has anyone else found on the 1/48 Hase/Revell kit that the intakes seem a lot wider then the fuselage where they meet?
-
The linescan pod is the almost oval shaped pod behind the front gear well, it's still fitted on GR.4A's which were converted from GR.1A's. I don't think it's used for anything anymore, not sure.

This may well be useful to help with the differences between the 3 F-14 versions: http://s362974870.onlinehome.us/forums/air...howtopic=208719

What if I do a 1/144?
-
Does anyone know where I can get some aftermarket 1/48 AGM-65's? Hasegawa weapons set C is sold out unless I want to pay £25 for it! Alternatively, does someone have any they would be willing to negotiate a price for?

I don't think the Airfix tail goes back far enough at the top, so the whole back end is the wrong shape. Can't remember about the angle on the front edge of the fin. If that's correct it might not be too hard to correct.
-
The F.3 tail is the wrong shape. I don't have a kit to hand, but if the GR version of the tail is the same shape then it's probably wrong too.

I've used Tamiya tape over Alclad sprayed onto Klear and i've never had a problem with it pulling up any of the paint. I tend to leave it a few hours to dry before I do anything to it.
