1/72 Eduard Supermarine Spitfire Mk.IX, VIII and XVI
DominikS replied to 172flogger's topic in The Rumourmonger
Doubt it. They've already have. -
Peter Xtradecals gives us Sky code letters but two pictures of 92's Spitfires from Africa clearly show red and, what is interesting, black spinner. In Caygill's book about late mark Spitfires there's a photo of Neville Duke standing in front of a Spitfire QJ-3. I don't remember the serial number.

@Miggers - I want but no-one makes decals in the royal scale for 92's Spitfires Mk.IX, apart from Xtradecals and their QJ-1 which,AFAIK, has wrong code letters colour.

I think that marking options will be the same as in 48th. On one of the pics showed at FB you can see the options. The same situation took place when Eduard released FW 190A-8. Different box art but the same marking options. From what I see I must say that I don't like upper engine cowling. As for the rest I'll wait till I get my boxes. -

No news, unfortunately. I've just seen distributors' leaflet for June and nothing about Spitfires. Imho Eduard's fully concentrated on Bf 109. But two weeks ago I talked to a few guys from Czechia and they mentioned E-Day. If it's true I don't know. Cheers Dominik -
Hi This is my third Reisen on my shelf. The kit is from Tamiya "shake and bake" line. Painted with Gunze H and C. Decals from the box (yuk, hate 'em) and from Rising Decals (love 'em). The stripes on the tail painted. Cheers! Dominik

Hi Ev'ryone I've just finished my first A6M2 Zero and now I want to begin preparation to start another build. This time I want to build a Mustang used in the MTO by Commonwealth forces. After some watching decals I have, I decided to build SAAF Mustang IV "Sweetpea" but so far I haven't found any photos of it, only some colour profiles. Can anyone help me with this issue? Great thank you in advance for any help. Cheers! Dominik

Hi Ev'ryone I'm currently working on Mitsubishi A6M2. I've decided to build the plane used by Kanoya Kokutai. I'm gonna use Rising Decals' set. But I don't have any pics of the plane with the code on the tail K-108. I've searched in every book about Reisen but without any effect. Maybe someone here, in this forum has the photo of that plane. I'll be very grateful for any help. Cheers Dominik

New tool Spitfire Mk.Ib,IIb,Vb from KP-Kovozavody
DominikS replied to Peter AZmodel/Admiral's topic in Aircraft WWII
Ahoj Petře Těim se z Vaich Spitfire. Ok. I've already bought one of KP's Spitfires (Mk.Vb Early) and generally I like it. I only have doubts about propellers, spinners and ailerons. I don't know if I'm right but the shapes of propellers blades look strange. Spinner of deHavilland Hydromatic looks not as I remember from the pictures...it's shape is closer to the one made by Tamiya. And the ailerons which are metal. It's ok for Mk.Vb but not if you want to build the earliest planes. OK, I haven't seen Mk.IIb boxing so maybe there are fabric. Otherwise your kit looks nice. Looking forward to tropical versions. Cheers Dominik -
They probably have some delay. Originally Spitfire was announced for the second part of 2015 and the first shots had been showed earlier. So maybe this year or next. Now they are occupied with Bf 109G, FW 190 and Tempest in 1/48 and Spitfires and Focke Wulfs in 72nd. Patience is the only solution.

The biggest problem when I see these pics is my poor wallet...Will it survive such year?

MTO Spitfires - some future 1/48 decals might be about to release...

I know Michał and as I far as I know the project is currently "frozen" for some time. But he promised to "unfroze" it when he finishes all current issues. -
1/72 Eduard Supermarine Spitfire Mk.IX, VIII and XVI

Sorry Procopius but there are only these two sprues available on the Net afaik. But I can compare them with bigger scale Eduard's Spitfires and, apart from the size of course, there aren't many differences. Some parts are simplified (which means that they are made as only one part) but general brake of parts is similar. For example wheel bays...I know that they want to make it as correct as possible but I don't believe that they couldn't have made them as one part or as a an integrated part of the wing. Same with the cockpit. It almost looks the same apart from control column and pedals. And at this point I'm becoming a bit sceptical about engine upper cowling which assembly in 48th is trickier than wheel bays (although cowling only has two parts), exhausts and closed canopy option. V.Sulc's philosophy "who now builds closed cockpits" might be problematic. Unfortunately it made me stop building Spitfire Mk.VIII in 48th from Eduard. Ok. I know that I'm complaining about the kit before it's released but I'm recently not as enthusiastic about Eduard's products I used to be. I only hope that Eduard will show us other sprues and the kit will be the ultimate model of Spitfire. -

So we have first frames: http://www.modelforum.cz/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=95825&start=975#p1845369 It's almost as overengineered as 1/48 Spitfire. And in lots of aspects it's just scaled down 1/48 with this stupid half-frame in the cockpit. Gonna ask Vladimir Sulc why they did this. Now I'd like to see fuselage...buy I can sense some assembly problems with this senseless cutting pieces of plastic from the cocpit wall and door to make closed-canopy option...same as in 48th scale Spitfires from Eduard and Airfix. But we'll see. Dominik (being a bit sceptical about new Eduard's Spitfire). -

New tool Spitfire Mk.Ib,IIb,Vb from KP-Kovozavody
DominikS replied to Peter AZmodel/Admiral's topic in Aircraft WWII
Cheers Bob! Thanks for the info. So accoerding to photos showed on the Modelweb site we will have late Mk.Vb with metal ailerons. I found one more issue, which will require sanding to make it right. If you look closely in the photo you can see a step in the place where engine cooler is attached to the wing. As far as I remember there wasn't such step in original (and I'm quite sure of that, as last weekend I was in the RAF Museum Hendon and the Science Museum where I spent some time staring at Spitfires). -

Just a fast question 'cos I forgot and I can't see them in the photos...or I am blind. When were metal ailerons introduced on Spitfires? Generally the early Rotol hub looks odd. Doesn't resemble original. And early exhausts look odd too...a bit similar to Tamiya's which is incorrect. And I hope that Mk.Vc will include deHavilland Hydromatic propeller which was very common in the MTO and on Australian Spitfires. -
I don't use Humbrol paints but as far as I remember WEM range has/had all Japanese colours. A mate of mine, who is Pacific War maniac, uses these paints and is very happy with tchem. Personally I use Gunze range (mainly C-range, but sometimes H-range) and there are dedicated colours. If the plane you are going to build was Mitsubishi build you should use Mitsubishi Green, if Nakajima was the manufacturer - Nakajima Green. If it was overpainted you can use anything which is called IJN Green (I personally use IJN Green from Tamiya or Gunze). Cheers PS. As for ame-iro I make a mixture 50-50 RLM02-Hemp.

But the riveting on the models doesn't look like the one in reality. These are just holes. It's really better not to make tchem on the models. If someone wants to have tchem, just take riveting tools and have a go. AICZ you mentioned riveting on Eduard's Spitfires. Yest it's nice but in some places it'll disappear after sanding and using putty or ca. Afterwards the model will look funny with rivets here and there, but not in many othe places. The Czechs are a bit crazy model geeks but very nice people. And when I read Czech forums and compare the posts there (as far as I understand) with Polish forums I find that Polish forums are the same. The same Slavic blood makes us very critical...sometimes too much. Cheers!

1/72 Eduard Supermarine Spitfire Mk.IX, VIII and XVI
DominikS replied to 172flogger's topic in The Rumourmonger
So, any news about 1/72 Spitfires from Nurnberg? Photos I've seen show nothing. No news anywhere. -
De gustibus non est disputandum. I don't feel riveting is necessary. On the other hand I don't like the way Eduard made the option of closed canopy in their Spitfires. But if the boss says "who now makes closed canopies" it makes such canopies in Spitfires quite time-consuming. You don't understand lack of rivets, I don't understand this strange/senseless (cross out unnecessary word), We can't do anything with it just to live. And the photos show quite nice model. Maybe one day I'll buy one...when my eyes won't be able to work with the Royal Scale and I'll have to change my scale to "Blind Men" or "Even Blinder Men" sclaes

DominikS replied to Homebee's topic in The Rumourmonger
Jesus, what the heck? Have you seen this? Two things I don't like at first glance: propeller with hub and windshield, which to my blind eyes, has wrong angle. I whish they showed more (especially underside).- 228 replies

You know what guys? I've just noticed one interesting thing. Every time Airfix releases a new model Xtradecal we have a new set (unless such set has already existed before). Sorry I should say almost every time. So far we haven't got decal sets for A6M2 Zero or B5N Kate. What's the problem? In case of Zero we have plenty of nice models (with small gems from Tamiya) from Reisen 21b to Reisen 52 but almost no-one makes decals (there are few exceptions). IMHO this topic is as interesting as EE Llightning, Ju 87, Percival Provost or Wildcat or even RAF Jugs (BTW gotta buy one). Similar situation is with Nakajima Kate. We got the model but no decals. As Mr David Hannant is here with us I hope he'll decide to release such sets. In my dreams I can see a few parts of A6M sets (one Reisen 21b, one Reisen 32 and 22 and one Reisen 52) and two of B5M. I only hope that this dreams become reality. Cheers

I hope not. Their big Spitfire has some annoying issues. I hope it'll be simplified (espeially upper engne cowling, exhaust and cockpit area) and it won't be problematic for those who build closed canopies. At the Nurnberg Toys we'll only see the same CAD pictures, I think. Something tells me that Eduard is now concentrated on Bf 109G, and will show it at the Fair.
