Try to find new Tamiya's colours XF 81 (Dark Green 2 RAF), XF 82 (Ocean Grey 2 RAF) and XF 83 (Medium Sea Grey 2 RAF) - they're the Mini Acrylic Paint series.

Hi everyone!
It's me..again with Spits. This time I want to present my two Tamiya's Spitfires. Both present aircraft used by No.92 "East India" Squadron.
The first one I built last year in Summer. This is the first Tamiya's kit I've ever built. Oh yes, the kit is in 72nd scale.
The second one is also the first Tamiya's kit, this time in 48th scale. I know, it's not finished - it needs a mirror and aerial, but I've recently moved and my kits stand on a temporary shelf so I decided to glue some parts later.
Now I would like to build a Neville Duke's Trop Spitfire, unfortuntely I can't find decals to his Spitfire anywhere. So I still look for it.
Oh, yes. In future I will build more 92's Spits (hope to build at least 3 or 4).

I built one a few months ago. It was the first and the last ICM Spitfire for me. I still have two more, but one I'll pass to my mate and the other one has landed on a wardrobe. I've lost my patience while working on it.. And the ICM's decals you can throw away, it's a junk. I used Aeromaster roundels and finflashes and Life Like code letters and stencils. British roundels made by Lifelike have orange instead of red.

Thanks everyone for answer. Instead Ultracast I'll use Montex DeHavilland prop. The quality is worse but i can't get Ultracast prop now.

So Model Alliance present DG/DE aircraft in their book but give code letters fo aircraft painted DG/OG. Sweet.

As in the title I've a few questions about early Spits Fives.
First of all I want to build to kits of early Fives using Tamiya sets and Mk.I Airfix set. These are going to be Spitfire Mk.Va and Spits Vb QJ-S, QJ-J or Kent's Spit. My first question is about propellers and spinners. Should I look for De Havilland propellers or can I, especially in case of Tamiya's, use Rotol from the set?
The second question is about Kent's Spit code letters. According to Model Alliance his "code letters" were Sky. But ,afaik, Spitfires painted Dark Earth/Dark Green had Medium Sea Grey code letters.
OK. That's all for now. Probably in a few days I'll have some more questions.

Today some changes have taken place. Wheel bays've changed colour to Glossy Sea Blue. I also put some decals and one thing must be said about Revell decals - piece of crap.

Am I wrong or Airfix build their kits as if they were still in the 60's or 70's. I can't understand why they can't build accurate model. Instead they give us model with strange propeller blades, hudge holes in wheel bays. They screw up the fuselage. I wonder what's the cockpit like. I hope that they give possibility to build early Spitfires Nine with early gunbay covers, early air intakes and early elevators.

The work on Spits is in the very slow progress. The last of my ICM's kit is still under construction. Who knows, maybe I'll finish it till the end of July. Here are some photos.

OK. Here's my latest project (between Spitfires). I started it two months ago, maybe more, but then decided first to finish Spitfire Mk.XVI and Lavochkin La-7. Now I share my modelling time between Corsair and Spit Mk.IX.
Right, here's some pics.
As it's reboxed Hasegawa there must be some errors
And the following pics were taken today around noon....finally there's some sun...till Saturday.
I hate Hasegawa kits, although I still have 6 Spitfires (5 reboxed by Revell and 1 original), 1 Hawker Typhoon and 1 Zeke A6M5 to build....
Hope to finish Corsair on Sunday or Monday. Tomorrow gloss clear and decals.

Another kit just finished...almost. Have to find pitot tube...and must make aerial wires.
What can I say about the kit itself. Rather nice, definitely better than ICM's Spit but I had problems while attaching wings to fuselage. It didn't fit. Everything else fit well. As far as I know the blue has wrong shade, but I used the colour suggested by Eduard.
Oh, yes. This Weekend Edition it was built since November (few months spent in the box).

Finally finished. I wanted to do her "All Black" but decals desintegrated in water. Then I wanted to build Karol Pniak's Spit, but finally I built Bolesław Kaczmarek's (CO of No 302 Sqn) "Sixteen". I'm fed up with ICM's kits. Nothing fits as it should. Decals used duirng this build: roudels and fin flashes - AeroMaster, code letters, serial numbers, personal emblem, name of the plane and 302 Sqn's coat of arms taken from Lifelike Decals, POlish insignia Techmod. Paints - Gunze C.

Here are the photos. It looks as if the fuselage was from one kit and wings from the other. Have to use a lot of sanding, superglue and putty.
The followin pics show all the problems I have to overcome...the most annoying is the leading edge. Hope I still have this gel super glue.

The black paint is being washed off the Mk.XVI. In the meantime I've started building another two Spits. Both are of ICM production. The first will carry PAF markings of No.303 Sqn. It will be Mk.IX. The second will also carry Polish markings...I'm thinking about the version - either Mk.IX (Desert Scheme of the PFT) or Mk.XVI. So far I hav to do much sanding because the fuselage doesn't fit to the wings. I'm slowly fed up wit ICM kits. I belive these are the last two...and no more.

I jon the discussion about swastikas. It's the most stupid idea to forbid them on decal sheet...More, I've notice that Hasegawa have done it with Finnish Swastikas, although Finns used it for a long time before the War. And it had nothing to do with Fascism. Oh, I would forget. Pre-war Latvian Air Force also used swastikas. So if model manufacturers want to be politically correct (more saint than the pope itself) they should be consistent and they cancell all the red stars from the kits, as it is the symbol of another ideology which has done much evil.

Edgar, thank you kindly for you information. I will use it while repainting my "Sixteen". The quality of the decals pisses me off. So it will be, one day, finish together wit other two Spits from ICM in Polish markings. Now I must find decals (code letters and serial numbers) of "Sixteens" used by PAF during the war...or maybe Belgium AF. Will see.

F****** LifeLike decals!!!! I started applying decals but they tear apart in water...Now I must repaint it. I won't be black. And I'm going to use other decals.

It's high time for next raport. This time with photos. As I said, "All Black". Hope to finish working on this Spit next Sunday. One question - this triangle-shaped thing just aft the cockpit (how is it called in English??) should be painted black or Interior Green??

A short report, only written. I've decided to paint the last Spit black. I've bought Lifelike Decals Sets and, as mentioned in my "Ready for Inspection" topic obout Spit Mk.IX, decided to build black Spitfire. I know that it was glossy black paint, but I'll use Tamiya's semi-gloss black and do some polishing.
I found another problem...The canopy fits to the winshield as a fist to a nose, so I will leave it open.
The problem now is the part of a fuselage covered by a canopy when closed, just aft the cockpit...should it be black as the Lifelike Decals instruction suggest, or shoud it be Interior Green? The problem is that I haven't got any photos of this "All Black" Spitfire Mk.XVI and my build only bases on this instruction.

@Jonners - I decided to use "Box-art decals" for No. 43 Sqn was the first British RAF unit I read about (Osprey's Aviation Elite Units series). I'm still not sure whether decals are accurate or not, but it looks nice. I hope that one day someone will release Mk.VIII's decals for "Fighting Cocks".
And the "Sixteen" is under construction. Recently I've bought Lifelike Decals sets and decided that it'll be "All Black".

Hi Folks!
Finally I've finished. The work lasted a few months but it reached its end. The Hase products was a bit annoying. The fuselage required a lot of sanding and puttying. The same wings. Some roundels lost their colour because of agressivness of Mr Mark Softer. It's my fault for I left dots of it on them. Next time I'll be more cautios.
So here it is, The 43 Squadron's Spitfire.
Now it's time to finish Mk.XVI...So next Gallery of my Spits in March, I hope.

In quite near future I will have to change colours I paint kits. So far I have been using Gunze Mr Color paints. They are very good but there is one problem. Their smell is quite intense. My family start complainig so I'm thinking of changing the paints from C-seies to H-series. Unfortunately the Mr.Hoby palette is not as wide as Mr.Color. And I need all Second World War RAF and FAA colours.
Visiting Hannants website I've found that there are Xtracrylix colours, but I don't know anything about them. Can anyone write me anything about those paints? Are they worth spending money?

As I promised, I put some pics of Spitfire Mk.IX in No. 43 "Fighting Cocks" Squadron.
It's the second painting. The first one had a bit too "soft" borderlines between colours. Now it's better yet I'm not completely satisfied.
And here are pics of Spitfire Mk.XVI. The Mr. Surfacer 1200 has revealed some sinkmarks on the wings upper surface.
I had to used some putty....so at weekend...sanding.

It's high time to refresh the topic.
The work on Spits goes forward, although very slow. I'm about to finish Revell/Hase Spit Mk.IX. Decals are all atached, although they shoud be better. Unlike the case of Spit Mk.XIV I'm going to use dry pastels to make her a bit dirty. It won't be as dirty as the "Fourteen" was, though.
And the work on "Sixteen" is slower than I thought and the date of 4th of January was a wishful thinking. I've had to use lots of sandpaper, putty and superglue to finish the fuselage. And only today I put the first layer of Surfacer...so the work on this kits will last till....I don't know.
If I have time I'll put some pics of Mk.IX tomorrow.

Thanks for a hint, but I only need Duke's markings. And, frankly speaking, I don't need so many markings. I will built a few kits in 48th scale and go back to 72nd scale - lack of space in my flat.
