  1. Seahawk, I pay I demand. I know that AZ Models is not the Tamiya or Eduard but I think that if they start releasing easier to built kits, they'll find more customers. Now, for many of people here it's only 12 EUR (how much quid is it???) but for me I have to multiply it 4 times (in case of quid it's a little more than 5 times) - in such case I prefer to add some more money and buy Tamiya's latest Zero. And belive me, I didn't have much problem while building Academy's Spitfire Mk.XIV, and it was one of my first kits built. I hope that AZ Models will one day develop to Eduard's level and that day I'll buy their products. As for today, modelling should be a pleasure for me, not a hard work in a quarry. I don't have much time now so that's why I have such attitude towards modelling. Maybe in the future it'll change towards more ambitious projects.

IMHO quality = ease of construction.

@Graham - I know that Tamiya's Spits aren't 100% accurate yet same we can say about latest Airfix's Spit Mk.I, but both are nice kits. And belive me if the quality (ease of construction) was superb, I would pay even 20 quid for this kit.

OK Gentelmen, I think that I've expressed my opinion and we can stop waffle on this topic as, IMO, I won't change my opinion (in the foreseeable future) and you won't change yours.

I wish everyone happy modelling and have good fun.

    Cheers!

  2. First of all, I just expressed my opinion. I realise that other people may be delighted with AZ Model kits.

@Jan. Jane, as a Spitfire maniac I bought three Spits Mk.I/II of which two I sold after a few months after I had started building one of them. For me it was a nightmare - nothing fits. I know it's a shortrun but please - the quality of the kit is poor (although the panel lines look very good). I also bought Spitfire Mk.XIV but after opening the box I found that I had had high hopes when buying the kit. If you can assure that current Spitfires are of at least Academy or Eduard's quality I will buy one.

Sorry, I'll answer rest of opinions tomorrow.

    Have a nice evening.

  3. Oh my God, only not AZ Model. Sorry, but AZ's models are not worth their price. They are too expensive to their quality.I think I will keep waiting for Tamiya's Mk.VIII (both 1/48 and 1/72). Unless some other mainstream company release decent Spitfire Mk.VIII kit (Eduard maybe).

  4. I hope for Spits Vc, Griffon fighter Spitfires and some Seafires and Spitfires Mk.I/IIb (there's the fuselage only new wings are needed) and maybe Hurricane Mk.I, Defiant, Whirlwind, new Battle and Curtiss Hawk 75 - all in 72nd of course.

  5. I've recently bought Model Alliance's decal sheet "Spitfire Mk.I to VI European Theatre of Operations" and I'm disappointed.

First of all code letters colours don't match information from information sheet. For example: Johnny Kent's Spitfire is presented in Temperate Scheme with MSG code letters, whereas on the sheet code letters are "Sky"*. The same with Mk.II LR of No.152 Sqn. On the main sheet medium sea grey letters are very light grey instead of msg. And the sky are not sky but rather peas green. OK, there is a correction sheet for the MSG but not for Sky.

Secondly, the information on the info sheet is completely inconsistent with profiles. Let's take first Spitfire. The profile presents early Mk.I from No. 19 Sqn K9797 but the text informs us that "K9791 was painted in the "A" pattern[...]". Next example is Spitfire Mk.II (LR) P8388. Info states that:"P8388 was converted to a Mk.Vb standart from one of the first ever cannon armed Mk.Ib airframes[...]". According to information I've found It was only Mk.II - never Mk.Ib or Mk.Vb.

OK. This above is about MA-72114 and 48114.

Dear Model Alliance you did a piece of junk. I'm thinking about buying MA's 2nd TAF but frankly speaking I'm a bit afraid. 14 quid expense is for me quite big (imagine spending 80 Pounds for decal sheet). I think that you should send all the peaople who bought MA 72114 or 48114 also free correction set with Sky code letters, and corrected code letters for Kent's MK.Vb and Mk.II (LR).

  6. Hi

I'm plannning to build Xtrakit Spit 22 but I'm not sure about cockpit details.

First of all, what was the colour - interrior grey-green or aluminium?

Second - was the pilot seat made of metal or "plastic" and what was the colour.

Third - what was the colour of wheel wells?

I know, lots of whats but I want to be more less correct with this.

    Thanks in advance for hints.

  7. I'll be very happy if Tamiya release their Spits in 72nd. I know Sword's just released Spits IX and XVI but it's NOT Tamiya - although I've already ordered 2 "Sixteens" with bubles. Right it's very popular topic but the same with Messers and Focke Wulfs, and Mustangs but I wish to see their D.520, and Meteor, and P-51 in 72nd not only 48th. I'm pleased that they stay with the 72nd. So it's time to start saving money for that new Zero. As far as I can see it's A6M5 so maybe earlier versions will be released soon too.

  8. Hi All

I'm currently building I.R. Gleed's Spitfire Mk.Vb Trop. in 72nd scale, but I've a problem with wing tips. Oh yes, the chosen kit is Tamiya's Spit. Which tips should I use, as Tamiya gives two types - a "classical LF" version, and a bit longer. The picture below shows what I mean. I've seen a fwe pictures and sometimes I can see those longer (B on the picture) or "classical LF" (A on the picture).

OK. My baby boy went sleeping so I can do some modelling.

    Cheers!

  9. Another kit of mine. Finished today in the early afternoon. This is the first Hun I've ever built. The build was quite nice. Kit built OOB only decals are from DP caspar plus Tamiya. Methinks the painting is bit sci-fi. You can see that there isn't this Luftwaffe's sprial on the prop hub (???).

So let me introduce - Dorothy the Ninth.

  10. Hi all

Next kit finished. This time American Pony. Kit is old Hasegawa with all the errors. I finished it in the first week of July less the prop. It arrived at the end of the month but I haven't had much time till the last week. The build itself was quite nice and I didn't have to use much sanding and putty. Decals are of DP Caspar - very good quality but very fragile. If use them be careful. Colours are of Gunze - both C and H series. So this is it - The Pony

  11. Hi Folks!!

This is my first model finished after my son's birth. This is also my first kit of the Axis plane. The build was quite nice and straightforward - although the kit isn't selfgluing. To paint it I used the mixture of Tamiya and Gunze (both H and C) paints. Unfortunately wash and "dusting" is too weak to be noticable

I think that Mustang will be finished till the end of this week. To complete Dora I have to wait till the mid September.

  12. Hi Folks!!!

Another kit of mine. This time Spitfire Mk.I. It was quite pleasure build but there was one thing which made me upset. The canopy part didin't fit - it was too long (not a big problem) and too wide - and thats the problem. I hope that other two Spits from Airfix have canopies that fit correctly. The kit painted with Gunze C colours, used box decals and did some wash - although I'm not happy with the result.

  13. I haven't bought either "Nine" or "Nineteen" so far but the idea is great. If I may suggest anything, I'd would be grateful for 1/72 P-51K props - to build RAF/PAF/RAAF/RCAF Mustangs IV, correction canopy and windshield set for Tamiya's 1/72 Spits (seeing the early windshield without armour glass would be cool), correct prop for Xtrakit's Spit 22 as the one included in the kit is sux, props for MPM's Defiant.

But now I'm waiting for both forthcominig sets.

    Cheers

PS. I completely forgot - one more thing to my wishlist. Conversion set for Tamiya's Mk.Vb that would allow to build Mk.VI. That's all for now, I think

  14. Just bought two of them (Xtraki/MPM 22) and one thing must be said - the prop is piece of junk. Or maybe I'm so wrong. And that's why I must aske Spit expertrts. Was 22s prop the same as XIVs? If so I will have to buy resin prop for Academy's Spit XIV. If not we need someone to produce it (3D-Kits maybe???).

  15. [...]Of note, Aviation Workshop provide decals for a IIa, II (LR) and Va (one each of the 8 total subjects) on sheet 72114.[...]

    Regards,

    Tim

Which is incorrect, as code letters are Sky instead of MSG. Got two of them and in both there are mistakes (exept IILR there are others, e.g. Kent's "code letters" are also Sky).

    @ Stewart

Code letters and serial numbers would be enough, IMHO.

  16. Another kit finished this year. The first Roaring Forty. The kit was quite nice, although Academy's P-40M/N forces us to use some fillers and sandind while assembling aft-cockpit part. It doesn't fit well for P-40M. I tried wit N part and everything was fine. Kit painted with Gunze colours. Wash, drybrushing and panels lightening used. Now it's time to finish Hurricane and some Spits.

    Right, here it is

  17. Hi!

Finally I got my camera back and I can show you some of my Dominik's Lower Silesian AirFac....

The first one is Tempest. The kit itself is quite nice, although the profiles of lowerfuselage-wing part differs from radiator-fuselage. Rest was only pleasure. But I messed up with undercarriage, especially tail-wheel is back forward...I don't know why, probably I drank too much of a something while gluing this part. The main undercarriage wee weed me off too.

Decals are mix of Aero Master roudels and finflashes and Xtradecal "letters". Painted with Gunze C and H. Some washing and dry brushing also done. I also tried to lighten panels instead of pre-shading.

    Right lads (and lassies) - let's rock'n'roll.
