Thank you for your help. Now I'm waiting for some paints and some free time to re-open my workshop for a few hours.

Hi Folks
I've recently bought Xtradecals's Spitfire Mk.VIII in 48th and I noticed an error. If you look at QJ-D Spitfire there is a squadron badge on the fuel cover wheras there should be the WDAF badge (which is clearly visible on every photo of this plane. The same error occured on Eagle Strike set with QJ-F. I don't know what photos were the people designing those sets looking at while creating decals. So far the only correct badge we can find on Barracuda Cals. I think that those people shoul be more careful - and everyony who bought latest Xtradecal Spitfire VIII set should received correction set.
The other issue is less serious. Today I've noticed that they are going to release Spitfire Mk.V part 2 in 48th. Was there part 1? I can't recollect although I have been checking Hannats web reguraly. Nevertheless I can't wait to see what painting schemes there are going to be.
Being in the bad mood this Monday morning...as usual
Cheers

Hi!
I've a few questions to IJN aircraft specialists. As I'm completly new in this subject and my knowlegde is rather basic. All I know is:
a) Zeros were built by Mitsubishi and Nakajima;
the cockpit colors were different for aircraft built by Mits. and Nak.c) upper surface colours were also different
And that's all. So I have billions of questions as I've recently started building Tamiya's superb A6M5 Zero in 72nd scale. I decided to build the aircraft of 652nd Ku from Junyo. According to info from manual it was built by Nakajima and I need help.
The cockpit - can I use Tamya's XF-71 Interior Green?
The chassis bays - the Blue Aotake will be ok?
Upper surface - I assume something like Nakajima Green?
Lower surfaces - ??????
And what about Mitsubishi Zero's? The same interior colours?
So as you can see my knowledge is almost nil.
Please, help me.
Thanks in advance

Several months ago you showed profiles of Curtiss P-36. When can we expect them? Will they be released as HQ?

Cześć Robert/Hi Robert!
As far as I remember I can't recollect any badges on Spitfires used by No.92 Sqn in Africa- either Mk.Vs or IXs. As for Mark VIII the only badge I have seen was not Squadron's emblem but WDAF's. I have never seen Squadron's badge on their "Eights". So, iMHO, Xtradecal and Eagle Strike both made mistake. The only decal set with correct badge is Barracuda Srudio's. What's interesting I have seen this badge on Desert Scheme Spitfires not on Day Fighter Scheme Spitfires.
If my braun works well and I rebember correctly you once have painted that unit's Spitfire in Monorgrafie Lotnicze published by late AJ Press and it has correct badge - it was Spitfire Mk.VIII or IX QJ-1.

Hi everybody!
Recently I've started building Spitfire Mk.I in 72nd scale and I'm considering painting her as Des Sheen's Spitfire Mk.I RN-J. Are there any photos depicting whole aircraft? The only I've found the famous one with Sheen in the cockpit.
Thank you in advance for your help.

Daniel thanks that you pointed out my mistake. I've just found a photo of his aircraft but of very poor quality, so we can't see such details. Maybe someone has better photo of whole Gray's Spitfire:

The photo is taken from http://www.spitfireperformance.com/spit9v109g.html only for discussion. I might be wrong but I think I can see big blisters.
-
Were they bald and without necks? Is your bike ok

Oh c'mon guys.I'm just wondering. I'm not puritan (and I don't care if model is a few mm longer or shorter) but this is quite important issue for Spitfires. And I really hope they include at least two different options for Mk.XVI upper wings.
Edgar correct me if I'm wrong. If I see the photo of Spitfire Mk.XVI with three spoke wheels should I assume that she had those bulges? And was it only about such those aircraft with three spoke wheels?
Cheers

Edgar I wrote that basing on some information I've found on this forum, afair in thread about AZ Model Spitfire Mk.XVI. But you learn whole life. Maybe Eduard could put two types of type E wings into the box - with and without those bulges. But, IMHO, we wiil be "forced" to buy overtrees wings.
-
Nice to see Spitfire Mk.XVI but why in post-war wing configuration?

I've found this picture on IWM web - http://www.iwm.org.uk/collections/item/object/205209214
Maybe I'm blind but as fas as I can see it has early cannon bay covers. I think it had mark Vc type covers.

So do you mean that the shape of the "hook" in letter Q was the same as in Havercroft's Spitfire during the Battle? I know some photos taken after the battle wher the "hook" had different shape (as in Mk Vb QJ-S).
So it's Tuppny - thanks for help. So now only to find the photos of this airplane.

Hi everybody
As in the title I'm looking for the photos of those two pilots' aircraft.
I have A.Price's book Spitfire Mk.I/II Aces where I found a very small photo of Spitfire Mk.I QJ-S from Pembrey. Unfortunately it's not very clear and it doesn't show much detail, especially the shape of code letters. Does anyone have better quality photo of this aircraft.
The other pilot I'm interested in is Ted Brister. I found one photo on http://www.cs.kent.ac.uk/people/staff/djb/92squadron/ but it doesn't show the whole plane. Can anyone help me to solve the serect of the name on the tank? Is it Tuppny or Tuppmy?

Thanks for help.

Hi Guys
Thanks for every info. I've all the books mentioned above. Nonetheless, thank you. I also try to spend some time on IWM website. Yet it's sometimes hard to find needed pics.
@Jennings - I am quite aware when they came to Africa (the PFT was one of the firs units to get them).
Being lucky owner of "Luck of the Draw" book I found there nice photo of 92 squadron's Mark IX QJ-10. I also found QJ-3 in one book (I think Airlife's Spitfire Mk.VI-24). Are there any other photos of this unit?
I also want to build 72 squadron's Spit IX "PAT", are there other photos apart of the one in Osprey's book?

Hello!
I'm looking for photos of Spitfires Mk.IX used in North Africa. I've already found some photos but not many. Could you, if not a problem for you, post here every photo you can find. I'm waiting for Eduard's Early Mark IX Spits and I would like to build as many as possible (although I'm almost 100% sure that there won't be any Desert Spitfire in the box). So for the start I planning to build Skalski Circus Spits and Colin Gray's Spitfire (I'm a happy owner of Victory Aces of the Empire so can build one).
Thanks in advance for any help.
Cheers

Can we expect in the future HQT kits that used to be released as short runs? I mean mainly Spitfires (especially Mk.I/II and VIII) Hurricanes, Rogozarski and Martlets. This would be great to see them as a High Quality Kits.

Yesterday I talked to Stratusbooks and I was informed that the book won't be released until beginning of next year (even end of January). Nevertheless, I'm looking forward it.

If this info is true it's time to start saving money. If Tamiya release Spitfires Mk.VIII-XVI Eduard will be a good competition.
-
Hi Folks!
Finally finished. I started this build almost year ago (small kid and work don't leave much time for modelling). The kit is well known Tamiya's product with all issues. The biggest problem was the Aboukir which was a bit oversized. Yet in general it was very nice and easy build. The kit is painted with Gunze C and H colours. I used declas made by Sky Models (all a/c and national markings) which are very good and Techmod's stencils which suprised me with the superb quality. The biggest faults are: canopy and windshield which I masked with homemade masks and undercarriage. The last issue I could fix but I noticed it after fitting the wheel.'s Oh yes, it supossed to be I.R. Gleed's a/c but, I think, I put markings in wrong places.
OK. That's her - feel free to criticise.

Now I have to find some time to finish another Spit and A6M5c Zero before winter comes.
Cheers

Thanks for all helpful replies. I think I'll have to use the mixture of Sky/EDSG and Olive Drab as my favourite Gunze doesn't have Dark Slate Grey.
Bruce - what about blac for cowling inside? I remember reading about black there...or maybe was it about F6F-5/Mk.II? What's the best match for "Grumman Grey"?
Jonners I'm gonna build Eduard's 72nd Hellcat, yet the problem may occur there too - I hope not.
So, I'll soon start building Hellcat. First I have to finish I.R. Gleed's Spit Vb.
-
Hi Folks!
I'm planning to build FAA Hellcat Mk.I and I need some help with the camouflage colours and paints I should use to paint it.
The plane I want to build is:

The instruction says that I should use Sky for the undersurfaces and Olive Drab and some Grey for the uppersurfaces. Is it correct or should I rather use the set of Sky/Dark Slate Grey/Dark Sea Grey?
The picture is from Eduard's website and I put it here only for discussion.

Planning to build Battle of Dunkirk 92 squadron Spitfire but I found a slight problem - the shape of letter G in the squadron's code. Model Alliance and Victory Decals give them wrong. when you compare the shape of decal G and the G from the photos - we have different letters.
That's why I'm writing to you with request. Can anyone put here 92 squadron photos with GR codes as a starting point for discussion.
Cheers

Hi
Thanks for all answers. It's strange that there's no photo. The profiles shown by Rudolph I've already seen (Rudolph thank you). I hope one day someone finds the photo.
So I have to build the plane basing on profiles.
BTW, have you noticed that Model Alliance released decals with Sky letters instead of Medium Sea Grey for Kent's Spitfire?

Thanks for info. I'll try to get it, although I can't find it on the Hannants web.
As for mistakes I wouldn't be so frustrated if I could design such things myself. Unfortunately I'm not so gifted and I have to rely on producers of decals.
