  1. A question to Japanese aviation experts. I'm building an A6M3 Reisen 32 from New Guinea and I'm wondering if I should place aerials (radio and direction finding) on her. I know that very often Japanese pilots had radio aerial deleted, together with the radio, to make a/c lighter.

The only photos I've found show only wreck. Maybe someone has the service photo of this aircraft.

  2. Finally I've found the photos of A6M5 Type 52. The build started at the end of December but the photos were taken on the 18th when much of the gluing work had been finished.

It is my first Tamiya's Zero and I must say that it's pure pleasure to build it. As I have more Zeros to build (one 52, one 22 and three 21) I can forecast that this year will be "The Reisen Year" for me, although I don't have much time for modelling.

OK, enough talking. Here are the photos.

And the latest photos taken last week - canopy and windscreen attached. Those transparent parts are very clear and thin - just piece of art.

As I have already received painting masks made by Eduard I can't wait when I'm able to spray surfacer and start painting.

    Cheers!

  3. Some time ago (at the beginning of February) I started working on my second A6M Zero (the first one is A6M5 Reisen 52). Unfortunately I don't have much time for modelling so the progress is very slow. All I have done so far is documented on the photos below.

    First I painted the cockpit:

    Then assembled wings:

Last week I closed the fuselage, did some puttying and sanding, painted under canopy part "black", finished cockpit and join everything together. As for today everything looks lite that:

I hope this week I'll attach tailplanes and gunsight. But I'm not sure about one thing. Should I attach aerial mast. The photos of Q-102 aircraft from Buna show her without the mast but it's only a wreck. Does anyone have a photo of this aircraft when it was still in service? Thanks for any help.

  4. Hi ev'ryone

Got a few questions about Fleet Air Arm Hellcats. To be precise, I need a type info and camo infoe.

Starting from the beginning. I've recently bought DP Casper's decals "Meridian" and there are two Hellcats marked as Mk.II. I just need confirmation as I have no access to any data about British Hellcats.

    1. Was Hellcat flown by Lt. K. McLennan (FN439) Mk. I, early Mk.II or late Mk.II?

    2. Was Hellcat flown by Lt. Cdr. Shotten (JX758) Mk.I, early Mk.II or late Mk.II?

    3. Can I trust Eduard's information about colours used to paint camouflage and lower surffaces?

Thank you in advance for any help.

    Cheers

  5. Mark and Miggers thank you for help.

I have one more question about Alan Wright's Spits Mk.I. Do you happen to have any photos of his Spitfire QJ-S while they were in Wales (apart the most famous photo from Pembrey with, IIRC, QJ-X and QJ-P). I was wondering if at that time squadron's code letter Q had the same shape as Havercroft's QJ-P or rather Q as on Wright's Spitfire Mk.Ib/Vb QJ-S?

  6. Hello again

I'm writing with another request. Can you help me with the Spitfire Mk.I GR-S issue? I know the famous photo of his aircraft where he's getting out of the cockpit. Does anyone have other photos of his aircraft where it's possible to see the whole serial number? I'll be very grateful for any help.

    Thank you

    Dominik

  7. Hi Everyone

I'm planning to build as many Spitfires from the Battle of Dunkirk and the Battle of Britain as possible. And although I have some books with photos I think I still need more, especially the Battle of Dunkirk.

That's why I've decided to ask you fellow modellers for help.

Could you, if it's not a problem for you, post here or send me on my e-mail (dominiks3 at wp.pl) photos of this superb fighter.

    I'll be very grateful.

    All the best

    Dominik

PS. The photos are not going to be published anywhere unless permitted.

  8. Sitting this morning and checking for Xtradecal news I've found something very strange. They've just showed pics of their "new" set X72187 which is actually old X72130 with only one extra scheme. Apart of this sole "news" it's the old set. Something's strange in here. According to previous info it was supposed to be Spitfire Mk.V Part 2 which isn't.

I have this strange feeleing that they are playing the prank on us which is a pity because generally they have nice stuff.

  9. Looks nice. So now it would be great to design something from the second world war. The best candidates, IMHO, are Curtiss P-36, NA Mustang with Allison engine and some Spitfires (Mk. Ib and Mk.IIb, Mk.Vc, Mk.XII and XIV). Of course each of us have different candidates. But who knows.

In general I'm very pleased that the MPM started making models in "long run" technology. To check the quality I'm gonna to buy their Vampire (although I'm not into jets).
