Hi Everybody! I've been looking for photos of a few Spitfires Mk.I. I'm currently building a Spitfire but I've some doubts. The chosen kite is LO-Q "Kedoying" with a red snake.I have only found a profile in Osprey's AotA "Spitfire Mk.I/II Aces". Can anyone of you help me and post a photo of this plane in this topic. The other is Richard Hardy's "Dirty Dick". I'm also looking for the photos of this plane. Thank you in advance. Cheers Domini

1/72 Eduard Supermarine Spitfire Mk.IX, VIII and XVI
DominikS replied to 172flogger's topic in The Rumourmonger
I hope they'll be as good as Hellcats (I'm currently building one and I must say it's wonderful, stressless work). According to Czech forum first edition should be in August (Nasi se vreacei - The Boys are Back). But I'm waiting more for Mk.VIII, which is my favourite. Now we have to be patient and rob a bank ;-P I have to start organising my "warehouse". -
I wish it was 72nd scale. But maybe one day.

Models used to be very expensive in Poland. Our gov'ts love tax us. So we have taxes which tax taxes. Now the situation on the model market in my country is a bit better, models are cheaper etc. Maybe I'm panicking a bit but please remember one thing. You can buy more for 1£/€/$ than we for 1PLN. I know it's not your fault, only economy's. To finish this discussion I only repeat what I've said before. It's probably something with local importer. I've checked Airfix web and the prices haven't changed so much (unless they haven't showed it). We'll see what time brings. Cheers and happy modeling.
-
Ratch, I haven't mentioned this 'cos I was assuming that this price issue is general for the UK too. But now I'm thinking that maybe our local importer has had to signs a new contract with higher prices. Funny enough, current low prices haven't changed for a few years, even when the exchange rate between Quid and Zloty was much less in favor of Polish currency than it is now. I only hope that the difference won't be so big. However, it's time to start saving money for Eduard's Spitfires in 72nd scale.
-
Geoff you may be right. For me it stinks a lot. I assume it may be something with local importer. Below some examples (all in Polish Zloty) just to show the problem: Blenheim Mk.I from more less~50,00 to ~80,00 Tiger Moth from ~20,00 to ~30,00 Fw 190 from ~25,00 to ~42,00 These eamples were given by the man who works in one of the cheapest model shops in my country but show the problem. BTW. Why airfix don't produce their models in Europe. I don't think it is so much cheaper in Asia than in Europe. At least in some cases. Other companies have proved that it is possible to produce models at resonable price.

My poor wallet. Any idea when it will be released? -
Hi! I've just learnt that Airfix is going to rise prices of their models. Does it mean that they have moved the production line from Asia back to Europe? I understand that the rise is connected to higher prodution costs. According to my fellow retailer the rise is about 40% to 60% on their small models (FW 190, Tiger Moth, Spitfire, Bf 109E-4 etc). If so, I'll reduce my purchasing of Airfix models to necessary minimum. That's a wrong way dear Airfix.

Thanks a lot! It'll be British Hellcat from Far East then. Now I only have to find Gunze like Dark Slate Grey. I have one paint in my mind but have to check something.
-
Hi Folks! I've just started building FAA's Hellcat I and I've been wondering if external tanks were used. I've cut the hole for tank and then checked photos of British Hellcats. All of them depict planes without tanks. Thanks in advance for any help. Cheers! Dominik

Time is precious but it always lacks, especially for modelling. But finally I've managed to paint and decal my Reisen 52. Unfortunately there was a disaster and one of the tail codes was destroyed while placing. If anyone could help I'll be very grateful for tail codes. Cheers! Dominik

Serious Question - Proper French Translation for
DominikS replied to Steve in Ottawa's topic in Aircraft WWII
In Poland the name of this struggle is "Bitwa o Anglię" which is Battle of England. We have this problem that a lot of people use a name England to describe the whole UK. On the other hand most of fights took place over England. -
I think we should give up this scale discussion as everyone has own preference. I see some people being disappointed with Airfix's announcement at/before Telford. But it's still only three kits. I'm pretty sure that we'll see lots more interesting Airfix kits next year. Let's concentrate on the model from the topic. Can anyone who was at Telford share opinion about sprues? That's what interests me the most.
-
Aye, aye. Gonna buy two at least. As for the scale. Have built both 48th an 72nd and definitely prefer the smaller. Less space occupied, more possibilities and less spending's on chemical stuff. Someone's mentioned detail. Look at Tamiya's Zero. It's nicely detailed. So I'll stick to the magnificed scale. Oh yes. Aye, aye.
-
Methinks each scale has pros and cons. Everything depends on our eyes. And when I see someone claiming that serious modellers work only with 48th scale I only think it's nonsense. I've seen lots of models in 72nd with such a detail that I couldn't believe my eyes. IMHO everything depends on one's attitude towards modeling. If someone likes detailing buys bigger models. The other reason is poor eyesight. My colleague gave up 72nd because he couldn't work with small details. In perfect world each kit would be released in every scale simultaneously. But, unfortunately, we live in brutal world where we can't get everything we want. Stay positive lads! Greetings from unbelievably sunny Walbrzych Dominik

If designer has mentioned BoB so metal wing Hurricane is obvious choice for next year. Unfortunately we have to wait and keep our fingers crossed.
-
I know it's only wishful thinking but I would also like to see Fairey Battle, Fulmar and Firefly.
-
Not being British I'm glad that Airfix make all those kits as British planes are my favs (Spit the most). Even though the quality isn't always good (see Blenheim and rag wing Hurri with their issues). Of course, it would be great to have Tamiya quality for Airfix price but you can't always have what you want. I only hope their Defiant doesn't have wing or fuselage issues. As for the scale. I don't think we'll be always satisfied with manufacturers' decisions considering scale or topic (I still can't understand why Eduard or Tamiya haven't released Spitfire Mk.IX in 72nd yet). We should be patient and wait for the Advent Calendar. I'm pretty sure that everyone will find something interesting. So keep fingers crossed for your favs and wait. As for me I'm really happy that one of mine has already been announced for January. Cheers!
-
Defiant yes yes yes!!!!! Now I only want Spitfires Mk.Vb, c, XII, XIV and new tool Westland Whirlwind. And Hurricane Mk.I w/metal wings. All in 72nd of course.

Eduard 1/48th? Messerschmitt 109G
DominikS replied to gazza l's topic in Ready for Inspection - Aircraft
Although oversized this kit definitely looks like Messerschmitt. Only legs are too long. Great build. I wish Eduard redesigned their Bfs. I'd buy trop versions from Africa. -
The Victory Productions set is great (I have it) but, as NPL said, no-one has done a set devoted to RAF Spitfires over the Desert (both Mk.Vs and IXs). It seems to me that for most of the producers that theatre of operations didn't exist. Xtradecal's set dedicated to Mk.Vs has two Spits from Africa - both Mk.Vc. I'm gonna buy it and wait for Spitfire Mk.Vc. Think I must ask someone to design and print some custom decals.
-
Hi Everyone! I'm considering buying new Airfix's Spitfire Mk.V in 48th scale and build her in Afeican camouflage. But, as far as I know, there aren't any aftermarket decals with African Spits (or maybe I can't look for them). Those available allow to build, mainly, Spits from Great Britain and sometimes from Malta. Generally I find African campaign forgotten. Similar situation is with early Spitfires Mk.Vb painted in Temperate Land. Can anyone explain such situation? I'll be also very grateful for any information where I can find such decals. Cheers! Dominik

Why in 2014 is there no Tamiya Spitfire Mk.I BoB?
DominikS replied to terrya's topic in Aircraft WWII
Just small off topic. I wonder why Tamiya doesn't release Spitfires VIII and IX in 72nd scale. We still need decent 72nd Spitfire models. And as for the panel lines, this is not the topic of this thread. So Keep Calm and Build Models ✈ Cheers Dominik -
1/72 - Avia B-534 by Eduard - released - canopy sets by Stransky Kits
DominikS replied to Homebee's topic in The Rumourmonger
On the o,e hand it's a great news. Eduard mentioned Avia 534 a few years ago (4-5). But I would rather see Spitfire Mk.IX. But I think that I have to more patient and wait a bit (a hudge bit)longer. Unless Tamiya release theirs. But I'll buy at least one Avia...or maybe two - one wit open cockpit and one with closed.
