  1. When using recent Xtradecal set be careful. The GR-U scheme has an error. The shape of the letter G is incorrect. It's a bit better than, for example, Model Alliance but still wrong. So far the only decal that shows the correct shape is DP Caspar "Forgotten Operations - Dynamo 1940" with GR-G. I can't understand why people make the same mistake all the time.

  2. Some bad news from Eduard for all of us waiting for a new Spitfire. I've read on IPMS Nymburk website that Spit will probably be released late autumn or beginning of winter. According to the words of Vladimir Sulc it's because Spitfire is more complicated than FW 190 which is planned for autumn. So we have to wait much longer than expected. If nothing changes, we'll get a new model for Xmas...probably.

  3. I have a great request to all fellow modellers here. I'm planning to build forementioned Spitfire but I have some doubts.

What was the colour of squadron codes - Medium Sea Grey, Sky or Yellow? I'm asking as I've seen all three options. In my opinion they were MSG, but who knows. I might be wrong.

Secondly, did it wear any emblem on the tank cover. Some profiles show squadron's emblem on white triangle, but the only photo I've seen is unclear and it hard to say. Maybe someone has better photo of this aircraft.

This is a photo I've mentioned

    I hope you can help.

    Cheers!

  4. Great news. I'm going to buy several sets.

I have a question. Could you consider producing correct propeller spinner for Tamiya's Spitfire Mk.I and whole new propeller for Spitfires Mk.Vb and Vc used in Africa, Malta and Far East? I want to build a few Spitfires from Malta and Africa but no-one produces Hydromatic propeller. And a new engine cooler for Airfix Mk.I would be great.

    All the best.

  5. Hi Everyone!

As we have such opportunity I'd like to start a topic which can allow us to share our decal ideas with Hannants. I find the people writing here as a group of people with huge knowledge. This may help to create most detailed and correct sets on the market.

    So this is my idea.

Spitfire Mk.IX in Africa and MTO. Why? So far no-one has released set dedicated to Spitfires Mk.IX used in Africa, Malta, Sicily, Italy, the Balkans. Previous Xtradecal set consits mainly Spitfires used in North-Western Europe, with only two exeptions of 92 and 601 Squadrons. Generally I find MTO and Africa quite forgotten topic. What's more, Eduard's forthcoming Spitfire Mk.IX will let us build many interesting models.

I hope my suggestion will be taken into consideration.

    Cheers

  6. My God, only a few weeks and it took me some, short, time to find this topic. OK, it's refreshing old meat, but are there any news about these two projected sets - I mean the releasing date. Curiously, there aren't any pics of the Spitfire set on the Hannants web. I'm wondering what is taking them so long. The Hurri set pics have been the for a month, at least.

    Cheers!

  7. This post is a reply to post no.13 about what I don't like about Airfix's Spitfire Mk.I.

    So here are the issues:

    a. Slit trenches instead of nice panel lines - c'mon it's 21st century. I remember similar trenches on Matchbox models. Even old KP models had nicer lines.

    b. Not everything fits as it should, leaving gaps here and there;

    c. Clear parts are too thick and you can either build early plane with flat canopy or windshield and canopy from the period of Dunkirk onwards;

    d. The cockpit could be more detailed with some options, such as early main undercarriage levers with the hand pump and later, the instrument panel could also be similar to Tamiya's or AZ's

    and the option of different gunsights;

    e. And finally, old Spitfire Mk.I in 48th isn't so old and they released new one. So why not new 72nd one.

This is the end of this off topic. And I only hope that next year Airfix will release NEW Spitfire Mk.Vb and c.

    Cheers

Dominik, impatiently waiting for new Eduard's Spitfires in 72nd scale.

  8. Ok Lads

Sword's Spitfire Mk.XII is short run but there aren't any long run Spitfires Mk.XII. I understand that for some folks out there short run models are piece of cake but in my case (and I think I'm not the only one)such kits are not worth a penny.

But if some of you don't like "the we" pronoun, I may use a phrase "there's a need for a new, high quality Spitfire Mk.XII". Is that ok?

On the other hand I think that there is a need for P-36. Am I correct?

  9. Now Airfix could design and release completely new Spitfire Mk.I and V in 72nd wcale. Yes I am aware of their Spit Mk.I but the model needs some updating. If they could have done it with 48th Spitfire Mk.I so why not with 72nd. But I'm afraid we'll have to wait some time for decent model in my scale

But the big Spit looks gorgeous.

Dominik, impatiently waiting for Eduard's Spitfires Mk.IX

  10. If we take into consideration that Mr Sulc talks about all possible parst let's see:

wings - up to 8 parts (2 lower and 6 upper)

    fuselage - 2 parts

    engine cowling - 2 or 4 parts

lower engine cowling - 3 parts

    tailplane - 4 parts

    stearing surfaces - 4 or 6 parts

    ailerons - 2 parts

    wheels - 4

    wheel hubs - 4 0r 6

    legs - 4

    wheels covers - 4

    torsion racks - 2

    cannons - 4

    prop - 3 parts

    exhausts - 4

    glass - 4 parts

    wing tips - 4

    coolers - 6 to 8 parts

    gunsights - 2

    aerial mast - 1

    pitot - 1

    IFF - 1

    early air intake - 1

    cockpit - ca. 15

    door-1

I think I include most of important parts - together sth about 90 to 100.

I think it'll be very detailed model. I only hope it won't be overengineered.

So I already know what I want for Xmas this year....lots of Spits :)
