I really mean 1/72 Hellcat. Maybe the problem is with the plastic used - mine is of grey plastic. But I know that originally it was beige/sand colour. Edit: I've just checked FAA Helcat boxing and the wings (still untouched) also have this sinkmarks.

I also find Tamiya's Zeros almost perfect. I've build Zeke 52 and 32 and te only problem was attaching wings to fuselage in 32...there was a gap, but that was the only problem. Some time ago I started building Zeke 21b, but not having much time I put it back to the box. I hope to finish it next year. As for Hellcat there are horrible sink marks on the upper surfaces of both wing along the flaps line, which are a bit difficult to remowe without destroying surface detail. Apart from this, Eduard's Hellcat is very nice little kit. I'll probably buy a few 190A-8 to use with some aftermarket decals I have in my stash. But I'm rather waiting for FW 190F to build in markings from Italy. And I still hope for A-4 version, but if my understanding of Czech is ok Eduard is not planning to release it in forseeable future. But I really hope for this version. Tomorrow starts E-Day so maybe Mr Sulc will show some new future projects in "tough guys' scale". I also keep fingers crossed for first test shots of Spitfires.

Still no metal wing Hurricane Mk.I and Spitfires Vb and Vc in 1/72, pfffff. Bad Airfix, very bad
-
Giorgio I feel the same. In my opinion there isn't ultimate and definite Spitfire Mk.I/II nor Mk.V. I remember that Spitfire Mk.IX made by AZ Model based on short run Spitfire VIII which is clearly visible on the parts but I really hope that these kits won't base on short run models. And I must agree that avoiding Spitfire Mk.Vc is really awkward. Of this new, I hope, models I'll start with Mk.Vb 'cos all my recent Spitfires were Mark One all DG/DE camo. Now I need some grey colours on my shelf. I keep my fingers crossed for these models but I'd like to see the moulds. And I still look forward to Eduard's Spitfires. Cheers Dominik

Revell 1/32 Supermarine Sptifire Mk1a N3290 GR-U.
DominikS replied to chuckb1's topic in Ready for Inspection - Aircraft
Very nice Spitfire. The only thing I don't like, but it's the fault of the decals not yours, is the shape of the letter G. So far no one has done 92 Squadron's code letters correctly...but maybe at Telford something will appear. -
17th Sept- Anniversary of Op Market Garden today
DominikS replied to tonyot's topic in Aircraft WWII
Tony I just pointed another importand anniversary and my point of view. And I really find 'Market-Garden' important and I really find the men fighting in 1944 very brave, and those poor RAF pilots attacking German vessels too. It's not a place for arguing and I'm not going to do it. But for your insult I'm gonna write to Admins of this board. -
17th Sept- Anniversary of Op Market Garden today
DominikS replied to tonyot's topic in Aircraft WWII
But today is more important anniversary. On the 17th September 1939 Soviet army invaded Poland, who was fighting alone the German invasion because British and French governments had decided not to help Poland. There wouldn't have been Arnhem if our "allies" had attacked Germany in September. Sorry for this words but most of the world don't know anything about it. -
1/72 Eduard Supermarine Spitfire Mk.IX, VIII and XVI
DominikS replied to 172flogger's topic in The Rumourmonger
Mr Sulc wrote on the IPMS Nymburk website that the release of Spitfire has moved to the first half of next year. So maybe April, as the bigger Spit was released. I really hoped that they would release Spit before Xmas -
MTO Spitfires - some future 1/48 decals might be about to release...
DominikS replied to M1ke 1972's topic in Aircraft WWII
Hi Michał! I really look forward to your sets. Cheers Dominik -
IMHO, Airfix should release metal wing Hurricane Mk.I in 1/72, together with new Spitfires Mk.Vb and Vc.
-
I'll pass him your opinion nad try to convince to post here. Thank you and I hope more opinions (positive of course ) will appear. Cheers Dominik

Thanks for you reply Tony. As for the code letters it looks grey to me.But you are right about red letters. If we look at QJ-10 the letters look red. The problem is I don't know when the colour changed from MSG to red (or blue). But there are two photos of the famous QJ-J flown by S/L Wedgewood. One with the ground crew letters are grey, the other, showing the whole plane from the portside the letters are red. But I have also seen all white code letters and individual letter. I can't see the badge either. I have on my hard disk two other photos of Spitfires Mk.IX from No 92 squadron and none of them has the badge. So, now I only have to buy aftermarket code letters and wait for the kit. Dominik PS. Tony, I have seen Spitfire Mk.VIII from "Ninety Two" with completely different shape and location of the WDAF Badge. Much smaller and under the exhausts.

Hello Everyone I'm starting this topic to gather opinion about the possible market for new Spitfire decals. A friend of mine has designed and prepared a few sets of decals for Spitfires Vb, Vc and IX from Africa and Italy. For now he's planning to release them in 1/48 and, in the future, 1/32. Everytime we are talking I'm trying to convince him that the 1/72 sets will be very successful, especially after, I hope ultimate, Eduard small Spits IX. Can you, Fellow Modellers, give your opinion about this idea. Of course I realise that this is a kind of long time investment but I really want to convinve him to do it. As for today I can't give you more hints because I'm writing this post without his knowledge, but I'll try to get his permission to post here profiles. And belive me, in my humble opinion they are very well prepared. Belive me, I really love Spitfires, especially those from the MTO. I'm looking forward to your posts and opinions. Cheers Dominik

I'm refreshing this topic as no-one has replied to it since April. I'm planning to build it when Eduard releases 1/72 model and I'd like to make it as correctly as possible.

Sorry for messing in this topic but I don't get on well with search engines. I'm slowly working on Eduard's Spitfire VIII and next step is to install harness. Eduard's manual suggests putting a part of the harness into the hole at the backrest of the seat. But I'm pretty sure that in Spitfires any part of the harness goes through this hole. How should I install it? The second issue is about the leather covering backrest - was is black or brown, and how far was is put on the back side of the backrest. Thank you for your support. Dominik

Hi Everybody Are there any photos of James Rankin's Spitfire Mk.Vb? I have been looking for it for a few weeks and haven't found any. Can anyone help in this matter? Thank for all help. Dominik
-
OK. I know that this has already been discussed I couldn't find it. What were the cockpit colours - was it only Grey-Green under the "glass" or the part occupied by the pilot was green and aft the seat aluminium?
-
@Daniel Thank you very much for information. I think it's the firs time I've heard about aft links. Now I have to look more carefully at the photos. Do you think that JF476 had aft links or no links? @Tempestfan If you get those books they are really worth the money. OK, I'm a Pole and the Spitfire fan so I would have been strange not to buy them.

Hi Chaps I know that it has been discussed once but couldn't find it. I've started slow work on Spitfire Mk.VIII and I have one problem - the torsion racks. When were they implemented into production? Is it possible to determine from serial number which planes had the rack and which didn't? Thank you Dominik

The third part of the Fighters over Africa and Mediterranean with options not included in parts 1 and 2 would be great, especially Mustangs. Thank you. Cheers. Dominik
-
Jon When can we expect to see Fighters over Africa and the Med in the shop?
-
Jon First of all BIG thank you for Fighters over Africa... I hope there will be a few other parts. The topic is enormously hudge iand needs lots of sets. Secondly, it would be great to see next part of Spitfire Mk.VIII and IX. Maybe photos I send you can be an inspiration;) Thirdly, John's idea about AuxAF is great. Can you also think about releasin a set with Western Desert Air Force/Desert Air Force emblem (a shield with an eagle in the triangle). I saw several photos of planes from Italy wearing this emblem. Cheers!

When using recent Xtradecal set be careful. The GR-U scheme has an error. The shape of the letter G is incorrect. It's a bit better than, for example, Model Alliance but still wrong. So far the only decal that shows the correct shape is DP Caspar "Forgotten Operations - Dynamo 1940" with GR-G. I can't understand why people make the same mistake all the time.
