    Thanks Rory,

I think I've got the kits sorted, got a long nose version for the Dauphin and the other bits and pieces for this and the other ones I think I will be ok (with a bit of work), now the Decals are a whole other issue.  Still trying to find 1/72 for these Helos.

New Irish Air Corps decals with some of those subjects is currently in the works.  I'll keep you posted.

Fantasic news.  Maybe just maybe Valom might release a civilian XIX with wooden wings.

Cross kitting the wings from a Special Hobby Anson I might give you what you need as regards an Anson XIX. I had started cutting out the vacform fuselage halves of the Aeroclub kit with a view to mating them with a substantial part of the Special Hobby Anson to get an Irish Air Corps Anson XIX. It would have been a lot of work. I'm really glad Valom has decided to release this kit!

  3. Beautiful model. Can I ask if the  HAR 9 had the under fuselage recess for a torpedo? I know it's a rescue helicopter but were they converted form HAS 7s? I hope to do that conversion to a HAR.9 myself but I don't know about the under side.  Specifically I want to build a HAR.9 as operated from HMS protector in the Antarctic. Any help greatly appreciated.

    Cheers,

    Joe

  4. An Auster would be most welcome but a  DHC-2 Beaver in 1/48 scale would have higher international sales potential IMHO. I know Dora Wings have announced one but Airfix could go really do well with it.  It was used by dozens of countries with a huge variety of colour schemes both civil and military. It would fit with the Auster polar exploration theme as it was used by Australia, New Zealand Japan and Chile in Antarctica.

  5. Beautiful work there! I have an interest in Antarctic aviation  and would like to model a few of the key aircraft used down through the years. Was that the MPM kit and where did you get the decals from? Did you make them yourself?

Ignore the above! Just found your work in progress thread. Excellent work.

I just took a look at your graphic, and differ with your choice of cuts.  If I understand the Viking 1b/1c correctly, the extension was ahead of the wing, not behind it, so I would cut the fuselage ahead of the first passenger window on each fuselage, and graft the Valetta's forward fuselage to the Viking.  The question is which horizontal stabilizers to use on the long-nosed Viking, as two sets are provided with the Viking kit.

BTW, your decal designs look great!  Might you contemplate a set for the Viking?

Looking at the window spacing on the two fuselages I think it might be easier all round to make the cut at the back end of the fuselage rather than at the front. The long fuselage has the extra length in front of the wing and regular window spacings. The short fuselage 1A has the front window spaced between where the two windows would be on the 1B making it a bit more complicated to convert the front end. Thanks for your kind comments on my decals. I hope to do a sheet on the Viking but will need more evidence as to the colours used on the cheatline and lettering.

    Cheers,

    Joe

  7. Hi Folks,

I just got hold of the Viking C.2 (Royal Flight) boxing and as others have said it comes with two full fuselages. I think all the boxings by Valom come with two fuselages but don't quote me for sure. The short one has the passenger door and the long one has the extra length in the front fuselage and the cargo door at the rear. So to make an Aer Lingus Viking 1B I need the long fuselage but with the small passenger door at the rear end. It seems to me that one way of doing it is to simply cut both sets of fuselages in line with the rear wing fairing and swap the passenger door fuselage section with that of the cargo door onto the long fuselage piece.

You can view an image at http://www.maxdecals.com/viking.jpg I tried putting it into this post but it wouldn't allow me for some reason.

    Cheers

Changing the windows / doors on the Valetta fuselage is a lot easier than sawing off two fuselages (in just the right spot and 90 degrees to center line) to join together.

I'm waiting for my own Viking; I was forced to buy the Royal Flight box because the others were sold out except the early Viking 1A (that has different wings to all the others)

    Cheers, Moggy

So for an Aer Lingus Viking 1B the best starting point is the Royal Flight boxing of the Valom Kit? I didn't know the wings were different on the Viking 1A. Did Valom update the wings as well as the fuselages between the various boxings? I can cut out windows but as Moggy said cutting two fuselages at exactly the right angle and joining them square and true has never worked for me in the past!

    Cheers

  9. The actual colour used was a gloss dark green Akzo Nobel 042002 which is virtually identical to Forest Green FS 14079 used on many US aircraft. Hannants have it in gloss in their Xtracolor and Xtracrylic ranges. See link below:

    https://www.hannants.co.uk/search/index.php?adv=1&product_category_id=&product_division_id=&manufacturer_id=&product_type_id=&code=&scale_id=&keyword_search=FS+14079&setPerPage=25&sort=0&search_direction=0&restore_search=&save_search_active=yes&save_search_name=&save_search=

    Hope this helps.

    Hi Joe

Any chance of you re-releasing your Aer Lingus sheet to tie in with this kit? Would be a great help if that is possible?

    regards

    Eamonn

Hi Eamonn, I never released a decal sheet for an Aer Lingus Viking mainly because I hadn't enough information on the colour scheme. The Aer Lingus Vikings had a wide green cheatline and lettering outlined in another colour, possibly gold or another shade of green. With no colour photos to go on I've held back hoping some new information will emerge in time.

    Joe

  11. I'd like to build an Aer Lingus Viking 1B which had the longer fuselage. Do you think it would be possible to graft a section form the original Valetta fuselage that comes in the box to get the extra length on the Viking fuselage? I would be interested in seeing what's in the box.

    Thanks

    Joe
