As the title says a few more from a day out. It was pity the Mirage was still in its wrapping and hung with banners on both sides. Ian

I don't think Meteor F3s were exported, some may have been 'given to other air forces for evaluation. Ian

Dave and Dennis Thanks for pointing out the S was upside down,I think it I had been having a 'stupid boy' day. This has been rectified. The photo I worked from does not show the exhausts or the intakes so further research is necessary, neither of them is a difficult fix. Photo's of some aircraft with serial no's in that region do show the shorter exhausts So onwards and upwards as they say. Cheers ian

Paid a visit to the Yorkshire Air Museum on Sunday and was lucky enough to see the first taxi runs of the year of the working aircraft. The museum had organised the Hurricane to do a couple of flypasts. Ian[ URL=http://s1158.photobucket.com/user/camper1231/media/IMG_0974_zpslll4eavr.jpg.html][/URL]

Hi Folks Another Meteor I am afraid, this one has a little bit of history to it as according to CWS Vol 1it was the last Meteor F3 in operational service. This aircraft served with 500 Sqdn until almost the end April 1952 by which time 500s Meteor F4s had been replaced with F8s. It is also unusual in having the Squadron code in front of the roundel. Decals were from generic sheets and it was painted with Xtracolor HSS Ian

Hi Folks Another F102 this time from 325th FIS based at Truax Field Wisconsin according to the Superscale decal instructions. Not one of the more colourful schemes but the case XX winged aircraft seem to be more difficult to find in decal form. A bit of confusion reigned as this was a Revell boxing and contained the case XX wings,I thought only the Monogram boxing had this wing, anyway things got sorted.Painted with Xtracolor. Ian [/

Unfortunately the RAF does not have any of these aircraft fitted with a boom and it would take rather a long time to whistle one up in case of an emergency. The photo you posted showed a KC135 which is what I based my comments on, and they are 60 years old. The main point I was trying to make in my first post was that our people are buying off the shelf aircraft instead of specifying what is required to enhance the operational aspects of the aircraft and provide a safe operating back up for the crews. It should not beyond the imagination of the people who buy these[or maybe it is]to have a refuelling probe fitted to the aircraft before it is pressure tested and thus avoid a much more expensive fix sometime in the future as this will undoubtedly happen a few years down the line when the range is found to be unsatisfactory to the RAF. When I worked at RAE Farnborough things were specified tested altered to the satisfaction of the military and then put out for manufacture which was the correct way to do the job. Had enough of this now and am going to keep my further thoughts to myself. Ian

So we have to go out and purchase some more 60 year old aircraft to support the new technology. Good business for Boeing, can't get my head round why they are so embedded in the MOD structure

Nimrod was long range, what is the operating radius of the P8?

I think non compatibility with RAF tankers is pretty much a major oversight, who specifies equipment these days? To many free lunches and the 'it will be alright on the night approach'is not good for the military.

Beautiful model,I remember these on the ramp at Prestwick Airport with Neptunes and EC121s,happy days Well done Ian

Nice job Andy, dont see many Freighters built. My problem is [age] that I remember these trundling over Prestwick en route to Renfrew they were in view for about 20 minutes. Ian

Hi Folks The last Meteor F8 for a while, still got an NF11and T7 on the go so start despairing now.Still need to do another couple from these sheets at sometime in the future although the kit seems to disappearing fast. This one is another with the excellent Marmaduke decals applied depicting the CO's aircraft from 19 Squadron. Painted as usual with Xtracolor HSS. Cheers Ian

Hi Folks After a few Meteor builds I rescued this from the shelf of doom it was dumped there as I had the old age problem of working out the angles for the decals.it was a bit of a problem trying to work out what was silver and white as the decal instructions were a bit vague, not the best I've done but it's finished at last after around 7 months of swearing at it. ian
