Fly an MD88 with Delta and get promoted to Captain
camper1 replied to Latinbear's topic in Real Aviation
Unpopular with me as well, having had the pleasure ?of several flights during visits to the US. Dark, dingy, dirty, noisy just a few of the words I could use to describe them. I've flown on a few DC9s or MD what ever its called and it was never my favourite choice of aircraft. Ian -
Hi Tony Thats the one I need, thanks very much. Cheers Ian

Hi Folks This is my Trumpeter Attacker complete with 'cream crackered' canopy totally my fault. I decided to fit the canopy cover as if the aircraft was being readied for the night outside, didn't glue the canopy on in the vain hope someone might have the spare from the Magna or CA kit. If any one has a spare I would be very greatful if they would get in touch. Straight forward build no problems fit wise, finished with Xtracolor paints and Xtradecals. Cheers Ian

Hi Paul Nice builds, looks like the decal solution you bought on Sunday worked. Also looks like you've been working overtime on the kits. Cheers Ian

The model was painted with Xtracolor High Speed Silver thinned with Xtracolor thinners which give the paint a very smooth finish. Ian

Hi Folks This T33 was assigned to the 318th FIS based at McChord AFB in Washington State. The decals are from an old Experts Choice sheet, the instructions called for the aircraft to be in ADC grey but I found a photo in an old[30 years plus]Military Aviation Review which showed it in bare metal, several other photo's in the mag showed a couple of grey one also assigned to the unit. I know this kit has its faults but it built well and I am happy with it. Ian

Hi Tony Nice one mate,I remember these when I worked on Masirah Island off the coast of Oman. The instructors would take a student pilot on his first Strikemaster flight to show him the ropes and end up with a VERY low pass over the runway perhaps 25 feet or less. The sight of the poor student staggering away from the aircraft was certainly one for the record books. Ian

The Parlous State of the UK Modelling Magazine market
camper1 replied to Tiger331's topic in Magazines & Books
I stopped the regular purchase of magazines some years ago because of the criticisms above, they just were not worth what was being asked price wise. The obsessions with certain aircraft types bugged the hell out of me and the same type would appear in most of them over a 3 month or so period. Even my old favourite Aeroplane Monthly is heading down the route of Spitfires this month Hurricanes next month then Spitfires again, how much more can be written about these aircraft. I know they sell to 'Joe Public' but in years gone they would have interesting histories and stories of all manner of types which were not published elsewhere. Thats the whinge for the week over. Another nice one Andy, just a pity they were not regular visitors to the UK. I only saw 2 transiting Prestwick in the early sixties en route to the Paris air show and I believe this was the only time they visited the UK. Ian

Hi Folks This is Monograms F80 Shooting Star regenerated from a Cat3 landing accident many years ago. I found this in the spares box minus a few bits mainly easily replaced parts and thought why not give it a go. The aircraft represents one from the 36th FBS based in Korea in 1952,decals from Aeromaster. Ian

I've had a look in the Schiffer book on the F80 for you and it would appear that the F80A did not have an ejection seat, there are a couple of pictures which show that early F80Cs did not have one either. Most RF80A aircraft would appear to have been converted from F80A airframes and there were several different nose modifications, if I was building it I would go for no ejection seat. Unfortunately the Schiffer book does not give much in the way of RF80 cockpit pictures but the ones shown don't show any ejection seat handles. For drop tanks I think FOX3 productions in the US do tanks for the T33 and they are not too expensive Hope this helps. Cheers Ian

Hi Tony I picked this one up from Dave in Halifax from the second hand pile,I already had bought 2 so I thought go for the hat trick so it may well have been yours. The Norwegian one is next if I can master the shark mouth properly. Cheers Ian

Hi Folks This the MustHave F86K based on the Revell/Monogram F86D. It comes with a completely new fuselage and fits as well as the original was meant too. It was rumoured at the time Revell/Monogram released this kit that' Kilo' version was to follow but it never saw light of day.. Decals from the kit depict an aircraft from 1 Storms 17th Guppo based at Istrana air base.Painted with various mixes of Xtracolor HSS Cheers Ian
