Geronimos last stand

Thats very nice,I always liked the P40 in that scheme. Ian -
The Luftwaffe Sabre 5's were drawn from the stock of well over 100 Sabre5's cocooned and stored there. They were checked over by Scottish Aviation and delivered in the Canadian markings, presumably these were repainted in Germany. The finish varied greatly from downright scruffy to looking brand new with very faded national insignia on some,a number of them were very early production machines. The camouflage was the standard RAF colours and the saying went that if the camouflage was good enough for the RAF it is good enough for us. There is a Sabre5 on display at the Gatow museum. I was There as a 9 year old aero spotter and remember it well

Hi Folks This has been sitting on the final approach to the shelf of doom for over a year,I just lost interest in it for some reason. After seeing the one that Silver Fox finished it was rescued and finished off, it represents a 45 Squadron aircraft based in Singapore during 1957. Painted with Xtracolor enamels and the decals came from Fantasy Printshop . Cheers Ian[ img]https://i.imgur.com/GB4ffwi.jpg[/img]

Hi Folks This has been sitting in the must finish pile for a long time, almost approaching the shelf of doom. The main part of the kit comes in three parts which are not so easy to line up if the model is built as per the instructions, so after ignoring them and using some sprue to spread parts and clamp others eventually brute force succeeded. The decals came from an old Almark sheet[1990] and behaved better than some more modern ones finished with Xtracolor HSS which was polished a bit to give it a bit more of aa shine. The painting instructions would have you paint it in "super silver"but I never saw a Voodoo which was shiny. Cheers Ian

There was no problem roaming about the aircraft outdoors. Only one aircraft in the hanger at the time I was there which seemed out of bounds was the P40,it sat away from other machines by fair distance given that the hanger was full. The positioning of the aircraft probably changes frequently,I would suggest you just ask they really are a friendly bunch. Cheers Ian

Hi Folks The second of the Long Island museums I visited recently, again very friendly people and a nice place to visit. Both museums seem to concentrate on aircraft built in the local area, not surprising as both Republic and Grumman built huge numbers of aircraft on Long Island Cheers Ian

Hi Folks A few more from the above museum as you can see the aircraft are packed in pretty tightly into the hanger which make photographing them a bit of a problem.Better under cover than outside though. Cheers Ian

Hi Folks Spent last week in New York with my wife and granddaughter, after four days of walking and shopping I'd had enough, so ran away on Friday to visit a couple of museums on Long Island. This was the first one which is called Republic Field and is Republic's old airfield, not much left of them now except the Seversky buildings which I was told are now preserved. Most of the hangered aircraft still fly and the PBY6A will take around 3 million dollars to become a flier. Very friendly place with the volunteers only too willing to answer any questions, the train from Penn Station takes you past Bethpage where Grumman have a Tomcat on the gate, they also have one at Calverton further out on Long Island. I did pick the wrong day to go as the previous 2 days had benn in the high seventies Fahrenheit. Cheers Ian

Hi Folks This is the Italeri reboxing of the Kinetic kit which I bought from trickdicky in his recent sale. The kit goes together well, decals from AirDoc which are very good, depicting an aircraft from 1JaboG 31 'Boelke' based at Norvenich in 1960. I have only seen one of these in Luftwaffe markings at the museum in Berlin but I remember when the Berlin Wall crises died down a few dozen of the F84F and RF84F routing through Prestwick on their return to the States taking a good 80% plus of the runway to get airborne. Interesting to watch. Cheers Ian

Hi Keith The Otter was stil at Pax when I did a tour of the airfield around 4 years ago. One thing that was notable were the number of airframes up poles and on grassed area's,one of them was an A5A Vigilante if I remember correctly Cheers Ian

Hi Folks The latest F102 from the 526 FIS based at Ramstein, unfortunately the sunburst markings did not last long as the unit markings were replaced with less flamboyant ones after a couple of years. Xtracolor ADC grey was the paint used and the decals came from an old Replica In Scale sheet,to say they must have been 20 years old behaved very well. Ian

According to Air Britain 7732 was in a previous life EX405 the subject of Johns picture and sold to the Belgians as H.216 in 1953. Could be the one shown has been restored or the wrong serial has been applied and its obviously been allowed to rot a bit, the individual history shows no record of it serving with the SAAF. Ian

Hi Andy Another nice sixties jet, like the decals a lot. Like you I had a few problems with the one I built, a lot of fiddly bits to knock of while other things are being done. I also think the canopy sits too high although I'm not sure if anything can be done about it, must admit I haven't looked it too seriously yet for the other one in the stash.

Hi Folks This is the CA MeteorT7 which has resided on the shelf of doom for too long, it was almost finished but removing the masking from the canopy the paint came with it so I lost interest for a while. This aircraft was one of the last T7s built for the RAF and had the large bore intakes fitted, the one on the model are leftovers from an Airfix Meteor and when cut to the right length fit almost perfectly. WN311 as shown was attached to 1Grp Com Flight and scrapped in 1962. I found a photo of the back end of sticking out of a large pile of Meteors a bit of a search found another one but I couldn't determine if the trainer bands were on the aircraft,Tony O'Toole came up trumps with a good side view but it had no trainer bands. While searching for something else I came across a tiny side view which showed the trainer bands so it was finished as the photo,I do like trainer bands[Hate painting with yellow] Ian

Hi Folks D.H. Hornet finished as an aircraft from 33 Sqdn based at Butterworth Malaya around 1954. IMHO this is probably the best fitting CA kit I have built,I know it has its problems accuracy wise but it is built straight from the box warts and all. Finished in Xtracolor HSS and Xtradecals. Cheers Ian

Hi Folks This is the Academy T33 finished as an RCAF aircraft seen at Prestwick circa 1960/61. Painted with Xtracolor enamels, decals by Canuck Model Products. I had a few issues with the decals, namely the instructions give the wrong camo scheme for an aircraft of this era and it took a fair bit of research to find the correct schemes fellow BMr Tom Calbury helped me out a lot by pointing me in the right direction. Thanks Tom. The decals were also very thin and tended to break up very easily, however all was OK in the end Cheers Ian
