The Sentinal looks very nice, pity the politicians are so eager to get rid of it after such a short service life Ian

Hi Luis Scale Aircraft Modelling ran an article on Miles Military trainers in the October 1997 edition,if you would like a copy I can scan it for you.The model is a MK11 being used around 1948-49. Ian What are you doing out of bed this late? Ian

Hi folks,a few more from the black and white factory, the Noratlas was the first "new" Luftwaffe aircraft to visit Prestwick it arrived carrying a medical emergency from Germany, funnily enough there was a visit by two Sabre6s within a few weeks followed by another two the following week, the Northstar was on its regular visit, looks a bit different with the Brit taking off in the background. The T33s were regular visitors on training flights from somewhere but we reckoned they were golf visits to Troon golfcourse,The Queenair 80 belong to the king of Nepal and was on delivery. The C45 was one of three to transit on the same day on delivery to places unknown Ian

This is the Magna kit, goes together very well apart from the canopy which is a real dog,it is paper thin and gives no end of problems fitting it.I'm not too happy with it but it will have to do.The decals are from the kit and represent a machine from Kenley,if I remember it was the Central Gunnery School,I threw the instructions away without checking that this was correct.Dont know why I painted it yellow I hate painting yellow. Ian

I didn't think either of the available 48th Seahawks kits were easy work,in some places the Trumpeter kit was worse than the CA kit.It does look very nice in the box but there are problems with it.I posted a couple of photo's on ready for inspection a couple of weeks ago,it's turns out nice enough. There is a lot to be said for some of these retro colour schemes to make a comeback, they were much more attractive than some seen these days. One in particular I saw at Heathrow in January this year was the Aer Lingus Airbus in the old green striped scheme, camera was in hand baggage isn't always the case? Hi Brian, nice to see that you build the odd thing with a fan on the front,I take you sprayed it with the garage door open.Nice build Ian

I can remember this kit being first released,it was state of the art then and your build has certainly done it justice. Is it really worth spending an awful lot more on the Hasegawa one? Ian -

I saw this at the USAF museum it certainly looked a pretty mean machine. Ian -
Hi Folks,a few more from yonder days, the two SC54s are from the 67 ARS based at Prestwick they also operated Grumman Albatross amphibians, prior to these they operated SB29s and SH19 Chickasaw helicopters and before Bri48 comments yesI can JUST remember them. The Neptunes were very frequent visitors sometimes there would be four or five sitting on the pan with a couple WV2s.The Orion was the first of the type to visit but certainly not the last. The Britannia was a regular on BOAC economy flights to the States and the Viscount was the regular Saturday morning flight and replaced the Convair 340s.Enjoy Ian
-
You could get right up to the aircraft in Scottish Aviation,no one bothered you at all as long as you didn't touch. If you were lucky sometimes you could get into the DC3s and 4s if you asked the right person. Ian

Hi Folks, more black and whites, let me know when you get fed up,the DC6 was if I remember correctly a charter to Lourdes, the Overseas National DC8 was probably a MATS charter, the Viasa DC8 was operated by KLM on behalf of their tie up with the Venezualan airline, the Twin Pin was in Airwork markings and was at SAL for checks. The Convair 340 was a Saturday morning weekly service from Amsterdam, this was started by DC3s followed by the Convairs then Viscounts followed by Electras in sucessive years,if you look closely you can see the Canadian Sabres in front of the nose these were in storage at SAL,at one time there were over 100 cocooned there. The IL18 had Marshall Gromeko on board heading for the United Nations and if the tale is correct it is the first Russian Aircraft to land at Prestwick since the last great unpleasantness. We had to wait for about four hours for to arrive.Enjoy Ian

Someone was looking for a Viscount in the natural metal scheme, hope this helps, picture was taken at Renfrew Airport if I remember correctly. Ian
-
Hi Brian, that becomes of being vintage a bit like yourself Ian

Hi folks, boring you all again with these old black and whites the Sabres were in SAL for servicing, one of the saddest sights I have ever seen was pile upon pile of these beautiful aircraft being scrapped it was almost as bad at Abbotsinch Naval Air Station with piles of Sea Venoms,Gannets,Sea Hawks,Skyraiders and Avengers sitting waiting for the smelter man to arrive, photography there was actively discouraged although you could get tours if you wrote a nice letter? The Friendship is self explanatory as to its owner, the Comet was probably on crew training,The Northstar with the F84Fs was taken at the start of the Berlin wall crisis when a large influx of them arrived and departed in a very short space of time from memory there were around sixty of them with an equal number of F86Hs going by the Southern delivery route through the Azores, they all returned a couple of years later through Prestwick. The Ambassador was a frequent visitor,Fying Tiger had been a frequent visitor with its Super Constellations and DC4 for years prior to aquiring the CL44.Hope you enjoy Ian
