Another Airfix Meteor in 1/48th scale. This one from 245 Squadron as usual painted with Xtracolor and Compucolour paints and finished with a mix of Rowney varnish. Decals are from one of the Marmaduke decal sheets, these decals are first class and I would recommend them to anyone with an interest in Meteors. Cheers Ian

Hi Folks This had lurked on the shelf of doom for a while,I had to wait a long time for the replacement canopy to arrive. Nice kit to build ,no problems were encountered. Model finished using one of the kit options,no FTS number given on them so I'm in the dark as far as the unit is concerned. Painted with Xtracolor HSS. Cheers Ian

1/72 Sabre - Royal Saudi Air Force
camper1 replied to Julien's topic in Ready for Inspection - Aircraft
This aircraft was in the dump at Jeddah old International Airport in the early 80s along with another half a dozen Sabres The dump also had Vampires,Harvards,DC3s,DC4s,B26s and a Short Sealand plus a few other aircraft. Nicely built and finished model, the paint by then was bleached almost white which threw me a bit when walking around them. Most of the photo's of this dump were taken during the Gulf War,to have a camera. when working on the airfield would have earned a few days in the local nick. -
Another Airfix 1/48 Spitfire 22
camper1 replied to camper1's topic in Ready for Inspection - Aircraft
you mean the wet, dank side don't you. By the way you're barred from Halifax. -
High Folks The fourth of my bargain Spitfires. This time finished as an aircraft of 613[City of Manchester]Sqdn. As usual finished with Compucolour and Xtracolor pants and decals by Xtradecal. Cheers Ian

Airfix 1/48 Meteor short shot parts issues
camper1 replied to Thomas from ARC's topic in Aircraft Cold War
It's been like that since it was first released. I've built around a dozen and all have had the same problem. If Airfix know about it perhaps they should have fixed it by now. -
H Folks The Airfix Seafire this time, another of my bargain box. Based at Lossiemouth this was the personal aircraft of Captain Casper John. Decals by Model Alliance and painted with Compucolour and Xtracolor paint. A rather nice runabout for the pilot. Not sure if I like the contra rotating prop on the aircraft. Cheers Ian

It is the Revell kit, from reading about it it's closer 1/50th scale. Close enough for me. Ian

Tony I know we discussed the yellow ring but the photo of WV198 was taken in the UK and the ring is the same tone as the white in the roundel. I'm not sure whether 198 was taken to Malaysia can't find out much about it. Cheers Ian

Hi Folks Number 7 from the shelf of doom the Revell H19 kit. This is one built by Sikorsky and sold to the Royal Navy while Westland were tooling up to produce their version. The photo I worked from shows it to be lacking the winch which was a bonus as the one in the kit bears no relation to real real thing. The only things I did to it were some home made seats, mesh over the openings above the engine and rubbed down the rivets. It's time someone did this as new moulding considering it was probably the first useful helicopter available to many armed forces. Ian

The decal sheet was made by a company called JBOT if I remember correctly and may still be available. G-AJNO which appears to be the one most photographed sat in reasonably good condition in a hanger at Prestwick until around 1958/9 when it was scrapped. I didn't have a camera at that time but as an ardent aero spotter in those days it was the only one I saw, there were bits of another one but it had no markings to identify it. There are a few photo's on ABpic of the Scottish Airlines Walrus aircraft. Ian

Spitfire MkIX typical flap position on the ground
camper1 replied to cema_ga's topic in Aircraft WWII
My father only got caught once with this, although many others on his squadron were "fined"quite a few times. Stories went around that unpopular pilots or crews would have the flaps left down on the aircraft after inspection by the ground crews so that the resultant "fines"kicked in. The usual "fine" was a days flying pay. -
The kits were the bargain of the day, what my wife bought was a bit [lot]more expensive.Boxes were tatty but who cares at that price. Auction houses sometimes have collections, this is the second time I've got a bargain, last time was some Hasegawa F104s

Hi Folks The Airfix 1996 kit of the Spitfire22/24 is still a very nice kit to build,I got six of these and two Seafire FR46s in a sale room for £8,it would have been rude not to rescue them. One is from 73 Squadron used at Ta'Qali in1948 the other from 502 Squadron based at Turnhouse again in 1948. Decals from Aeromaster and painted with an old tin of Gloy paint for the undersides and Compucolour for the top. Cheers Ian

Hi Folks Number 6 from the shelf of doom This is the AZ kit using the Belcher Bits conversion for the trainer version of the Firefly. Not the easiest of builds hence being left to stagnate for a while, my thanks to Tony O'Toole for the for the front canopy which is the early version contrasting with the late version on the rear cockpit which is vac form from somewhere,I've lost the packaging and the brain is not computing. Painted with Xtracolor HSS and Trainer yellow, decals from the spares box. Ian

camper1 replied to tonyot's topic in Ready for Inspection - Aircraft
Hi Tony Nice to see it finished at last and looking so good. After the problems you had with it I thought it may have joined your shelf of doom for a while. Ian
