  1. Thanks for the info. My plan is to use the kit decals on both the Tamiya 1/48 Spit Mk I and Bf109 G-6 and see how I do. I have Microset and Micosol as well as both Gunze products, so will do some testing and go from there! Funny you should say that, I finally caved and picked up a Silhouette Cameo 4 cutter a few weeks back, and will try my hand at painting the insignias when able, but want to practice a bit first before I commit straight to the more expense 1/32 scale kits. I'd just like to know that if I'm stuck using decals for whatever reason, I give myself the best chance at success by using the highest quality ones I can find.
  2. Thanks all, gives me some good info to work with. I agree with the above sentiment - there's a lot of variables to consider, and suppliers changing printers only compounds the problem. Thankfully it appears EagleCal is in fact a safe bet (and they're made by Cartograf from what I can tell) so assuming I have good luck with them on my Mosquito build, I'll snag a few more sets for the other kits. I appreciate everyone's input!
  3. Good day/evening all, I've recently got the modeling bug again, and have been steadily growing the stash and gathering extras for each kit where I can, but having a tough time pinning down what the go-to decal companies are these days? To be more specific, I have acquired several of the Tamiya 1/32 scale aircraft kits, and it would seem aftermarket decals may be advised due to the kit decals being a bit thick/problematic. I've been eyeballing the HGW wet transfers, and also ordered some EagleCal decals for the Tamiya 1/32 Mosquito (turns out they reside in a small town not too terribly far from where I reside, small world!) but would like to get a general consensus on which aftermarket decals are of consistently high quality? Any I should steer clear from? I also have several Eduard ProfiPack kits but it sounds as though Eduard decals are decent from the box. Are Cartograf still a safe bet? There's such a wide array of aftermarket options these days that I'm unsure what would constitute an actual upgrade from the kit decals. Appreciate the input!
  4. Excellent, glad to hear the 0.18 in the 771 works well with the paints we tend to use. I'll most likely pick one up purely from a value perspective - that and the fact that I've read nothing but glowing reviews for that model. I've read through your thread a few times now, which has provided some helpful feedback. Anyway, your remarks on the PS-771's size is precisely why I'm leaning towards the new Micron Takumi, as it's much more compact, and the trigger is much closer to the nozzle - I feel like that extra bit of control would do me some good As mentioned above, I'll likely end up with the Mr. Hobby Procon as well at some point, as I have a tendency to collect airbrushes at an alarming rate!
  5. Yes, the PS-771 is still being considered, and I'll likely end up with both at some point - but having never had the opportunity to try a Micron, my curiosity is getting the best of me. I just wanted some feedback from modelers who run a Micron (as opposed to artists/illustrators) to get some first hand feedback.
  6. Thanks for your input, nice to hear it'll shoot the paints I typically use. I too want it for free-handing camo, pre-post shading etc. Seems it would round out my collection, and might even allow me to part with my HP-C+ due to redundancy (which recoups some funds in the process) I hear ya, the Micron parts aren't cheap by any stretch...shooting without the air cap on could be risky in case of drops etc. I'll have to check the Olympos brushes out. Thanks!
  7. Hey all, I've been scouring the various forums and YouTube videos trying to pin down which Micron might be ideal for my (and our!) uses as a scale modeler. I've had the itch to grab a Micron for a while now, and think I'm finally ready to take the plunge. For those of you who use a Micron, which model are you running? I'm between the new Takumi with 0.18 needle, and the CM-C Plus with 0.23. The CM-C Plus seems like the best all-around choice for my use, but it'll cost me about $100 more than the Takumi. I mainly use Tamiya and AK real color paints, and have also picked up some MRP to test out - and I'm really curious if the 0.18 needle of the CM-B/Takumi etc struggle with these paints? I'm well aware of the PS-771 as well, and while I'm still considering going that route to save some cash, I know long-term that itch for a Micron won't be scratched if I opt for the 771. For reference, I currently use the HP-CS, HP-C+, and a PS-290. If any Micron users can share your experiences, it'd be very much appreciated! Thanks!
