  1. Mr Metal Primer R is used for metal and resin parts where paint adhesion is sub-optimal. There are too many other tried and tested options to consider before using this as a gloss coat. I think it would do an awful job. I had some questions about this stuff so I asked Mr Hobby directly. They were very good and prompt with their response. I'll paraphrase the key points of their response: 1. Mr Metal Primer R does not contain acid or other chemicals that would react with metal like a true etching primer so it's safe to use through your airbrush. 2. It just helps adhesion of the paint towards non plastic material, like resin and metal. 3. Use Mr. Color thinner for dilution and cleaning. 4. You may dry it at least for an hour before applying overcoat. It may take longer depending on the thickness of the coat, so leave it over night if you can. My (somewhat limited) experience: 1. You should clean the metal pieces with acetone or denatured alcohol before using Mr Metal Primer R. 2. It can be brushed on but move quickly and don't go over the same area twice or it will build up. If you insist on brushing, it is wise to add some Mr Retarder Mild to the Mr Metal Primer R to thin it a little and extend working time. 3. Even though it shouldn't attack the internals of your airbrush, I still shoot it through a cheapo airbrush that I also use for primer/surfacer. 4. I thin it with Mr Color Leveling Thinner 1:1 for airbrushing and clean with hardware store lacquer thinner. 5. Since the parts will be hazy and remain somewhat tacky after drying, be careful to only shoot parts where paint will be subsequently applied. 6. You can to apply lacquer, acrylics, or enamel directly over Mr Metal Primer R. 7. You can apply the color coat directly onto Mr Metal Primer R. You don't need a primer/surfacer coat unless desired. I tried brushing it on initially but wasn't 100% happy with the results. I'm really picky, so it may be fine for others. I've heard parts can be dipped in it then have the excess drip off but I haven't tried this. Hope this helps!
