  1. If you go during the week and don't mind waiting until after 5pm you can take a tripod for more stable photography which will allow for adjustments in lighting. I know not much of a consolation but something to keep in mind. Ross
  2. Here is another figure that I have recently started work on. It is one of the Knight Models 30mm pieces, Obi-Wan Kenobi. This is a lovely little sculpt and I am looking forward to more progress on him. So far he has been primed, undercoated in black and then his robe has been airbrushed with some cast shadows being applied (These are not very clear in the pic). More pics soon. Ross
  3. Thanks for the comments gents. As to using black as an undercoat, this started with wargamers as a quick fix for shadows with the theory being that if you missed anything then there would always be black there rather than white showing through. However, from my perspective it is a useful for indicating where cast shadows should fall as a I use a zenithal method of cast shadown from a single direct light soure i.e. from above. It is quite a stylised painting techinique. I hope that helps. Ross
  4. Here are a couple of initial pictures of Rob Lane’s Grenadier Guard bust from the Crimean War. This is a lovely sculpt in my opinion and and I have always liked looking at Steve Walker’s version of this. All that has been done so far is a primer coat, black undercoat and then started work on the busby and jacket with the airbrush. The jacket was airbrushed in Scarlet and then the cast shadow was applied with a mix of Scarlet and German Tanker Black. This came out of a conversation at Euro with Rob and Gerry Larkin about shading red (the fun we have!). Gerry suggested using Paynes Grey because of it neutral tones. The closest to this in acrylics is Vallejo’s German Uniform Black, which I think works quite well. Some highlight were applied using Amaranth Red. That shine does not exist in real life, promise. For me the best bit about this is that I have proved that I can still use an airbrush as my last piece, Immlemann, was a step back in my opinion.
  5. Looking great. Everytime I see more progess the more I think I need to buy this kit. Ross
  6. Very busy But never too busy... Here are some pics of the UE itself finished. I will take better pics once I start painting. No addition have been made. I just used some Mr Surfacer 500 to add texture to the hatches. There are areas which could be refined if you wanted too. Ross

  10. Hello, Is that Frank? Ross
  11. Excellent build and paint job. Makes me sad to have sold my version of this kit! Ross
  12. After the fun of Euro Militaire the other weekend, here is a new project on workbench. It is Tamiya‘s 1/35 Renault UE tractor. The kit was released a few years ago and is an excellent little kit. I have reached this stage in just a couple of hours of relaxed modelling and there was not stress involved or problems with the instructions. I am building the box completely out the box as I want to focus on the painting and weathering. I then moved on to the tracked trailer. I am always amazed at the ease with which Tamiya kits go together. In places this trailer has just clipped together. None of the challenges you face with some other manufacturers kits. There is about 2 hours work in putting this together. There was some sanding required in order to get rid of pin marks. Better photos soon (these were taken on my phone for a quick upload to my blog). Ross
  13. Yes, I like this very much. It will be great to see this finished Mike. I looked for one at Euro but couldn't find anyone stocking it which is a shame. Ross
