  1. I'm thinking of making a 1/32 Albatros DVa based on this livery. I like working on a model with a full size reference easily available.
  2. Albatros DVa replica photographed yesterday in the RAF Museum Hendon UK.
  3. The more images I see the more variations there are. The Eduards image you posted of DR1 152/17 introduces a red underside to the undercarriage airfoil which strikes me as odd. But that's not relevant to the decal question which I'm still undecided about.
  4. Thanks for the information. I keep changing my mind on how I will do the decals but I think I will follow the Profile.
  5. Way back in the late 1960’s I collected most of the Aircraft profiles of First World War aircraft. I used the illustration page to make scratch built balsa wood models. Now I’m using the same reference to paint a Roden 1/32 Fokker Dr1 my second ever plastic kit. The Profile illustration is of Fokker DR1 152/17 However other reference I’ve found online is sometimes different. The Iron Crosses on the wings sometimes have white square backgrounds on both top and bottom wings or neither or (as the Profile) different on top and bottom. Can anyone give any guidance? I note that a famous photo of 152/17 does seem to show square backgrounds to the top wing crosses but I'm not clear if that is a lighter red or a dirty white.
  6. When my father was alive he would sadly remember the time during the war that he saw a Gladiator pilot killed when his aircraft broke up in the air. I think it was somewhere in the Middle East.
  7. Just awesome! Really I'm lost in admiration. I love aircraft of this period and this is a very interesting model of a relatively unknown type.
  8. Thanks to all for the encouraging comments. I’d not seen this website until I was almost finished and there are so many products and techniques I simply wasn’t aware of and that I’m now reading about. It was pure chance that I came across the Sopwith Triplane kit on eBay as I was actually looking for books on First World War aircraft. I’m not sure what to try next but I’d like to put some of the experience I’ve gained to use. I’ve always liked the De Havilland DH2 pusher biplane but I’m not sure about all that rigging. The Fokker DR1 is another favourite that might be a little easier.
  9. I first saw the surviving Sopwith Triplane N5912 in 1968 when it was hanging from the ceiling in London’s Science Museum as part of an exhibition celebrating the RAF’s Golden Jubilee. It was subsequently moved to permanent display at the RAF Museum at Hendon which isn’t far from where I live. So when I made my first model for over 50 years I decided to make it as N5912. It’s the Roden 1/32 kit. Years ago I only ever made balsa wood models of First World War aircraft so this is my first attempt not only at a plastic kit and all the painting involved but at rigging as well. I didn’t use the Roden decals but made my own. I made some mistakes and there’s a few things I wouldn’t do the same way again but I learned a lot in the process. I think a Fokker DR1 would make a good companion piece.
