  1. Thanks Peebs! Yes your name sounds vaguely familiar nice to hear from you
  2. Small world, I also flew with 8 AEF at Shawbury in the late 80s too Abiding memory of my childhood is cr*ping myself at the “jump John, jump” bits wondering if I’d remember how to do everything! Years later, full circle, I finished 17 years as an RAF pilot by volunteering as an 8 AEF pilot at Cosford flying Grob Tutors in my spare time. That was a massively rewarding experience and I always wondered if any of my cadets I flew would follow the path I trod too….
  3. Small world indeed! Few mates are ex-Para although not 3 Para. I was in As Samawah with a para unit in 2005 and had to fly an STD nurse into the base - one of the coffeeshop (Echos?) girls was providing some ahem extra services and had managed to infect half the camp…and pretty much about 100% of the paras Always enjoyed working with the Paras - 100% professional and made me proud to be fighting with you and dare I say it, proud to be British too.
  4. Naturally! That sounds a reasonable price to be fair, I almost bought one recently which came with the eduard seatbelts kit too for £60 but just felt it will be tfd for me. I know from their YT channel Airfix go through a rerelease cycle for their kits so will just happily wait for it to come out again. By then I might be able to do it justice I guess
  5. Hi @Tim Moff absolutely loving your work, would love to see another update if you have done any more on this beauty. I’m a former RAF Merlin pilot too and really want to give this one a go although I am very much a novice modeller, I suspect this might be too difficult for me at the moment.
  6. Hi Edward, I’m new here and just browsing for threads on the Merlin, wondered how you are getting on with your build? I used to fly the Merlin in a past life and really want to build one myself….if Airfix ever rerelease it! Sadly my abilities are very much at the beginner end so this model might be a bit too difficult for me….
  7. Thanks neddy - glad to hear your wife has come out successfully, that’s awesome news. I can only imagine how tough it is in your 70s as it’s hard enough for a reasonably fit bloke in his late 40s! I’m halfway through my treatment now so only 3 weeks left and then (touch wood) hopefully recovery. Really need to get cracking with masking the 3 colour paint scheme for my King Tiger now
  8. Cheers Dennis! Love Chicago - 20 years since I was last there sadly though. Damn right it is! Thanks for the welcome
  9. Hi all, Just thought I’d say hi and introduce myself. Si, 49 years old and living in north Shropshire. Just got back into modelling again after a hiatus of about…35 years and started making Tamiya AFVs, although I really want to get into WW2 warbirds eventually as that is my main interest. I’m an ex-U.K. military helicopter pilot now flying commercially offshore and also have a longstanding hobby of researching/collecting WW2 pilot flying logbooks (could I be the geekiest new member ever?!). Sadly currently grounded while I battle stage 2 cancer, but really enjoying getting back into modelling while I undergo chemo/radiotherapy. Will ask lots of stupid questions
