  1. Agree with Mike V. Made the Academy model with my 9 year old son over christmas and it is currently hanging from his ceiling. Actually went together quite well and the weapons bays were interesting. Don't know about the wheels as it had to be wheels up and shooting down a Me-109 that he made earlier! Good value for money though. A bit of fun.
  2. Sorry to ask what i'm sure is a stupid question, but i've seen a few people refer to 'PE' and i am wondering what it means. Need to build up my jargon. Many thanks.
  3. All very nice. Can you believe they were a one flight/fight option! I guess the pilots weren't asked to practice their landings.
  4. Not sure. Does anyone know if you can get Paveway 4 from anywhere as well? Thinking of doing a Harrier as well.....
  5. Quite right sorry. The fleet looked at Litening briefly but went for Sniper. USMC AV8B only for Litening.
  6. Used over Kosovo and Iraq. Don't know if they use one for ballast still to counter the extreme weight of the PWY 3 on the other wing or something else. Very bizarre fit but they couldn't carry the PWY 3 on the centreline.
  7. It was always a lottery as to which T-bird was made available to the Sqn going to Norway; they were considered to be 'wing assets' and were always in high demand. For this reason, we never really knew for sure which T-bird we would get to take with us until almost the day of deployment. For this reason they would probably never have been painted up and i certainly never saw one during my years (and many Bardufoss dets) on the Jag.
  8. There is a huge variety to choose from and in the past few years the Harrier Force were able to really mix their weapon loads giving them unprecedented flexibility. They can operate (and often did in Afghanistan) with the Digital Joint Recce Pod on the centreline and a Sniper pod on the left shoulder pylon. The right shoulder had the thin aerodynamic 'fillet' thing attached. On the wings you could take your pick, but they wouldn't fly with Sidewinders (no air threat), but they would have the BOL launchers on the air-air pylons and sometimes also on the outboards. The enhanced Paveway 2 was widely used as was the Paveway IV towards the end of their deployment. There are quite a few pics on Google Images (type in Harrier Afghanistan or something similar), but i include a picture below. They often had a mixed combat load of EPWY 2's and CRV-7 rockets outboard and 2 fuel tanks inboard plus Sniper or Litening 3 pod. Good luck and enjoy. They even had an assymetric Paveway 3 loadout, balanced with BL755 on the other wing!
  9. 1. Could be the flash, don't really know. Hadn't really noticed. They were Aeromaster decals i think. 2. Head support seems to be there in the reference book I have although a lot of pics aren't that clear. Could be the IIC had it removed but i'm not 100%.
  10. Vacform canopy with the extra bits from the Eduard cockpit set.
  11. Mostly the Hannants Xtracrylics and some citadel paints (games workshop) for silver/titanium etc. Am going to try the Gunze paints as i hear they are very good thinned with cellulose thinners, giving a better flow of paint from the gun and avoiding the 'spitting' you get with acrylics when it dries in the nozzle.
  12. Absolutely stunning! This one is on my 'to do' list. Hope it can come close. Perfect shading in my humble opinion. Tarps pod?
  13. Love the room and i'm guessing no chicks allowed. Good stash of models as well. Got a beer fridge/xbox 360 in there too?
  14. I used the citadel Mithril Silver that i find sprays very nicely, then a burnt umber oil wash. Decals were aftermarket, but i don't know where they were from. Fairly sure my brother got them from Hannants. Hope that is some help.
  15. Very nice kit from Tamiya, mightily impressed with the quality of the canopy in particular, which can often be too thick and chunky. You may need a weapons set, although it does come with some very early rockets and bombs. I'm a Brit working in Saudi, which you may have guessed from my white and hairy arm!
  16. Can't take too much credit for the cockpit-Eduard set and went in beautifully.
  17. Hurricane IIC night-fighter. Hasegawa kit which is pretty good plus a few Eduard bits. Hope that's not too many pics; new member. Thanks
  18. Hi all. I am a new member, having watched the site for a year or so. I took up modeling one year ago after 18 years off. I had a couple of lessons from my brother who is a legend (IMHO)! . I have done a few builds over the last year and thought i would share some of them here, starting with my A-1H Skyraider. Hope it goes down ok. Really enjoy modeling again and can't believe it's been so long! Tamiya Kit with a few extra bits. Good old Vietnam warload! Thanks very much.
  19. Very nice old school Jag. 2 'dweeby' points about the fuel tank just for general knowledge; The centre-line fuel tank is fixed flush to the centreline ERU's (Ejector Release Unit's) and has a slightly drooped appearance. There are 3 ERU's on the centre-line pylon, the front and rear are for bombs and contain smaller explosive release cartridges. A little known fact is that the fins were generally removed from the tank fitted to the centre-line pylon if the guns were loaded (they usually were), as the brass casings would strike the fins when being ejected. Hope that's not too geeky!
