  1. Thats very nice indeed. Lovely paint scheme and decals, i like very much. I am also a HUGE Tomcat fan and have a 1:48 project about to start.
  2. I thought it was a real one as well. Excellent.
  3. Only the Display Team aircraft have a RAF style nose light, all the other 'camo' jets have no nose light, just the 'taxi' light on the nosewheel that you can see in the pics.
  4. Can help with some pictures if required as i work with the Saudi Hawks. We have 2 nose lights (different from the camo jets). A couple of pics attached for interest.
  5. Beautiful. Very nice indeed. Google 'Johnsons Klear' (with a K, not a C).
  6. I don't believe it protects enamels, just the acrylics. An early experiment putting a light oil wash over a humbrol metalcote resulted in the paint being washed off in places and i had put Klear on.
  7. The beauty of using the oils is that you can leave them as long as you want. Don't put too much on, just allow it to run into the panel lines and then 'dab' a dot onto bits you want to pull back into a streak. You can soften the effect and even remove it completely by gentle rubbing with a smooth cloth. You can very easily go over the black (best for panel lines), with a bit of raw umber for an 'oil' look. The raw umber is very good spread over a large area that you want to 'oil' up, as it gives an oily brown stain that you can soften as much as you like. I have had problems if the solution has too much white spirit, as the spirit spreads out a bit and it doesn't really dry, rubbing off almost instantly. Anyway, i'm no expert, but do apply it over a layer or 2 of Klear or equivalent, or it will stain the paint a bit.
  8. Superb. I climbed all over one of these 4 months ago at the Al-Ain airshow and you have got the weathering spot on. The sun bleaches the paint to this level. Did the kit go together well and are there other options than a UAE machine?
  9. Beautiful. Lovely effect on the wings. Very realistic.
  10. Some very simple black oil paint/white spirit, over Klear, dabbed into the panel lines/rivets, allowed to dry, then carefully brushed in the required direction with the tip of an earbud. Ta to my bro for all his tips (Turnerdad). Low-vis grey lovely to weather.
  11. Many thanks for all your kind comments that are very generous indeed. Come on England!!
  12. Thanks Dads, techno faff, but an emergency call to my bro and all is well.....
  13. An old Hasegawa kit inherited from my brothers model collection-bits missing and all scratched up! Got the decals through Britmodeller so thanks very much (don't know who, my bro sorted it). Some dodgy fitting that needed work and the Airies cockpit took a lot of work to squeeze in. Stuck in Saudi Arabia so will get the weapons set and RBF flags when next back in Blightey (they don't sell much modelling stuff out here!). Thanks for looking, my favourite jet of all time.
  14. Very nice indeed. Built this kit last year and put it on the site. One of my favourite aircraft. Really enjoyed the model and am planning to build the USAF one after seeing yours. Many thanks.
  15. Lovely little model. I love the Citadel paints and use Mithril and boltgun metal often. I have the same issues with the canopy seams. Have had trouble filling and sanding with 'White Putty', giving a 'pitted' look. Any advice or alternatives most welcome. Ta.
  16. Absolutely beautiful, lovely weathering. Bizarre looking rockets!
  17. A beautiful model, but PLEASE can you put on a couple of pics of the underside which i am dying to see. Particularly interested in the weapons fit. Are those Rockeyes? I love the subtle weathering, very realistic.
  18. Another very average model bro. Keep pluggin' away and don't give up. I've noticed a 1 degree anhedral in-balance which is unacceptable. Alright, amazing as always........Can you see your tank top in the reflection of the paint? Later.
  19. Absolutely stunning, my favourite jet. Have one for later in the year and i can't wait to get started. Inspirational.
  20. Just finished. A classic little jet that punched above its weight.
  21. It's the Eduard set, which went in very nicely.
  22. Modern RAF weapons set!!!!!: Enhanced Paveway 2 Enhanced Paveway 3 Paveway 4 CRV-7 Operational pods CRV-7 Training pods Litening 3 Sniper + pylons Digital Joint Recce Pod Brimstone and launchers 540lb bombs ASRAAM Acqui/ACMI rounds Make a set of them PLEASE!! I'll buy a few. And can i have a new bike for next christmas. I promise to be a good boy.
  23. If memory serves, RAF jets on training missions would normally carry an 'Acqui' round-a finless, motorless rocket tube with an IR seeker, so it works as per a real missile up to trigger press. They have pinkish bands around them, a light grey body and normal head unit. The holes you can see on the picture are where the fins would go, but the rocket body doesn't have the laser windows that a live missile would have (located just behind the fins). Drill rounds with blue bands were only used for loading practice and weren't flown and would have 'NOT FOR FLIGHT' written on them. Real missiles as per the pic above are only loaded for Op sorties, live fire training and QRA. I'm sure it was different in the old days, but that would serve for modern AIM-9 carriers. Just for info, 'Acqui' ASRAAM rounds do have the fins i think......Have some pics if anyone wants them. Hope that doesn't confuse the issue even more.
