  1. Hi BB, This is a total speculative guess.....but you have to start somewhere !! Compare the stripe to the fin flash and to my eyes ,at least ,I would put (Your) money on the blue. The 2 is darker than the white so maybe Yellow ? Expecting to be shot down anytime soon Dave
  2. THANK YOU ALL !!!......The 85 Sqdn machine is the exact model .I freely confess of not knowing the overhang of the spinner....Question of not seeing the wood for the trees. Many thanks D
  3. Hi All Have been working on a Hasegawa Hurri.Mk1 (Finnish markings) from the stash , as a B of B 85 Squadron machine. Needed a Rotol prop so purchased the Quickboost item only to find it too large. Therefore is.......... a) The Quickboost item is too large ? b)The Hasegawa nose is too narrow ? c) The bull-in-a-china-shop approach has again come to the fore ? Any advice on a remedial Action gratefully received TIA Dave
  4. Missing the point I think....The fun and satisfaction is in the building ,challenging our own skills Dave

  7. Greetings Mr Madmonk, Hope to pick up the kit from Hannants at the Duxford Airshow.(or maybe before ) Must try to clear some space on the workbench first (Hurricane ,Tempest ,Hunter ) As i'll be taking a giant leap into the abyss may try some Alclad aluminium on the monococque etc.as well Regards Dave
  8. Thanks Steve ,Maybe it is time to make the "One step beyond " jump and now might be the time ,but you can't blame a bloke for sticking to what works for him ! ! Nothig ventured...nothing gained D
  9. Got a tin or two in the stash ....was going to use on a USN Corsair.....will check that out ! Regards, D
  10. Mtany thanks for the advice and exprience. My relutance to use ZP is that it requires (as I understand it) ,base coat +colour+clearcoat to be decal ready .My usual modelling is aircraft and over the years have become a fan of Xtrcolour ,which dries to a fine deep gloss that is decal ready ,only needing a clearcoat if required .I will certainly look at the Tam colour in the meantime. Once again thanks, and good modelling Dave

  14. Just to add a little more on the subject of QRA. I do not have the exact details to hand at the moment but during the 50's a USAF F-86 was scrambled from Manston (Kent) to investigate what became a UFO encounter somewhere off the Essex /Suffolk coast. The aniversary made the TV news down here afew years ago.Not sure what the RAF were doing at the time though ! Keep the theories coming D
  15. I do love a good conspiracy theory too ! but.... Wouldn't the American have had to be checked out on the Lightning (exchange posting )and why involve the RAF when (USAF) F4's where available. LOVE IT !!! D
  16. Well ! Thanks to all .I'm working through the Xtradecal sheet that calls out for 'sky grey' underside ,which is why it appealed to me .So you can see why it is a fair question to ask !!! Happy New Year & Many thanks D

  18. Hi All, Much has been discussed on the hard demarcation of the upper surface of B of B Spitfires ,but did this also apply to the Hurricane ? I plan to model P2923 , a Gloster built machine of 85 Sqdn .Images I've so far seen show conflicting evidence. Any opinions welcome. TIA Dave
  19. Javelin ...Baby....YEAH !!! Line 'em on the shelf ,next to the Sea Vixen..Just for the irony ! D
  20. Of course, what adds even more to the debate, were the 'handed' Merlins of the Hornet ! Ooooh dear ! D
  21. This is one of those old chestnuts that's always doing the rounds among enthusiasts. Opinions vary and have heard many over the years The one I like at the moment is that the Griffon was based on the 'R' engine and rotates the way it does to best utilise the torque effect when flying the Schneider course.Sounds good.......but hopefully the difinitive answer will appear here soon !! D
  22. Thanks for the inspiration,Paolo Will give that a go next time round. Good modelling and best wishes \\\\d
