  1. Hi again, On the subject of the oleo error.do you have any suggestions of how best to shorten them ? Many thanks Dave
  2. Yeah ! I'm not the fastest either ! Thanks for sharing and please keep us up to date on progress Dave
  3. Hi Andy, That does indeed help ! At first look it appears to ,me that the shoulder straps go over a 'roller' and then down behind the seat as opposed to a slot through the bulkhead . Above which a circular headrest ? What say You ? I am doing the Special Hobby 1/48th late version , chose this because this features in the Youtube footage. Thanks again Dave
  4. Hi All Just about to start .I want to fit a seat harness but am unsure of where the shoulder straps are anchored . Any help gratefully received as usual TIA Dave
  5. I await this one with intrest as I was under the impression the Sptitfire flaps were either up OR. down and the lever gave the definitive position .IIRC early aircraft had a retractable landing lamp ;no idea though how it was controlled or indicated. Looking forward to an expert answer Dave
  6. The ULTIMATE in 'loft insulation ' !!? Dave
  7. Hi All I'm in need of replicating this colour on a Hunter GA11 in 1/48th .Any tips and advice would be much appreciated. TIA Dave
  8. I would like to think the decimal point is in the wrong place ! We all know there's one born every minute.......maybe he's trawling for an hours worth .! Dave
  9. I guess it's a question of paying your money and taking your choice ! Elsewhere on this site you will see car modellers builds of 1/20th. F1 multi-media kits that cost usually between £250 - £450.!! It all depends on what floats the boat. I must admit that I have backed off buying CA Meteor kits on e-.bay as I'm sure one of the main manufacturers will be releasing a complete range as soon as I have a loft full . Until Airfix actually announce a Vulcan in this scale I'll focus on the real world ! Cheers Dave
  10. The first was the Airfix Hurricane IV ,served up in a plastic bag ,bought from Woolworths in Blackfen . Then got really cocky with the Do17 in a box ! All finished with Humbrol gloss of course !! Never looked back.....or probably improved !!! Dave
  11. Thanks for posting ,Steve .Shame it is the only one ! Dave
  12. Many thanks Graham, Regards Dave
  13. Hi All , Just picked up a kit ,and will be the next on the bench. The decal sheet has a matt finish and I was wondering how this works out when used with a high gloss finish like Xtracolor. . I'm particularly concerned about the red "no step" lines. Any thoughts most welcome. Kind regards Dave
  14. Hi Gents, PM sent to John ,but thank you Darren IIRC I bought this second hand at an airshow some years ago ,and the Barracuda drop-in nacelle replacements tempted me to dig it out of the loft. Many thanks, Dave
  15. Dear All , Does anyone have a Classic Airframe Meteor F8 Instruction sheet that they could scan ,please.? I would be much obliged. Best wishes , Dave
  16. Thanks Kelsey for the eloquent posts with which I agree. My point is that mismanagement from govt./civil service has blighted our defence industry since the end of ww2. If I may take the V Bombers for example : Three different airframe ,engine ,support , and training regimes to provide aircraft to do the same job .The historical reasons are well known but when the Mk2 variants were required the RAF , I imagine ,would have a clear idea of which they prefer. The question is :would concentrating on the one aircraft be more cost effective or was the decision political ? ie Jobs in the south v Jobs in the North Regards Dave
  17. The Denis Healy round of defence cuts ,beside TSR-2 included the P1154..... The supersonic Harrier !! What was that about 1982 ? !! The answer to this is more complex though ! Dave
  18. The TSR-2 was a political hot potato during the 1964 general election , at a time the Labour/ Conservative parties were ideologically poles apart compared with todays fight for the centre ground. This led to passionate debate on both sides ,many believing the aircraft better than it may have been despite immense promise. The airframe dated back to a design (IIRC) by English Electric circa 1954 and has never been copied since ,although the technology developed in its systems was cutting edge if not ground breaking. The project management was at best shambolic ,something which afflicts defence procurement in the UK to this day .Consigned to history TSR-2 remains an emotive issue illustrating lessons which apparently have not been taken on board D
  19. I have a Wyvern in the stash ,and IIRC the decal sheet calls out for maroon . Only a thought, but I wondered if there was a 'heraldic' historic link involved. Maybe check the squadron crest for any clues . RAF aircraft were easier as post war they carried bars either side of the fuselage roundel ,which led to the CO's a/c having squadron coloured fins. Best of luck Dave
  20. Right on the button Gingerbob , (Actually caught the Moodies on tour this year too !! ) Thanks Bruce .I struggle a bit with looking at the bottle and the visualizing the colour on the model. Dave
  21. Hi All .Just canvassing opinion, but if wishing to go down the Alclad 2 route .which one would you choose ? Regards Dave
  22. Thanks John ,This is obviously one of those topics more complicated than most of us thought Dave
  23. Hi All, With regards to the rudder ,I have in the stash an Academy FR14e which I would like to complete as a Mk XV111. Now , Airwaves do a rudder replacement, so can anyone clarify how accurate this is ? More confused than ever! Dave
