  1. The Wingleader Photo Archive has reached 30 volumes! The Consolidated Liberator evolved quite a bit during its RAF Coastal Command service and, like all large aircraft, saw a wide variety of modifications and equipment upgrades. This book guides you through the considerable differences that appeared between the MkI and the MkVIII. To guide you through these changes, we welcome a new author to the fold. Pavel Türk is a Czech historian who has a deep and extensive knowledge of the mighty B-24 Liberator. Following our aims of having the best authors for each individual aircraft type, Pavel was the obvious choice to cover RAF Coastal Command Liberators. As with all the books in this series, we’ve enhanced the photos to pull out the shadow detail and have added arrows and letters to identify points of interest. ‍This book contains approx 120 original wartime/post-war photos and 6 in-depth colour profiles. Check out the whole range, with sample pages, at: Bookshop - Wingleader https://wingleader.co.uk/shop/
  2. Hello Pete, Very much so. A Lysander book is planned in the next couple of releases, as we've got some cracking photos. It will be an excellent accompaniment to the Valiant Wings title. Watch this space!
  3. I'll be needing to spray the white next time! Brush painted primer does not cut it. The font is traced, and needs to be bigger. At least I can flip the wall around and have another go.
  4. A simple bit of Gatow hangar, laser cut 3mm MDF. Looks 1/72nd Tempest size. Next to trace the 'No naked lights' stencil. Might have a go at a blower, too.
  5. Thanks! Is yours labelled as Reflector or Projector? Also thinking a hanger base, wall and a bit of roof might protect a gear down model. I'm terrible for breaking bits off! I might do a gear up one to sit with the sight.
  6. Much satisfaction at finally buying the new Airfix Tempest V. It's a lovely looking kit, with decals for the bare metal SN228, with the challenging selection of pieces for the underwing serial number across the open undercarriage bay. The new Wingleader Photo Archive thankfully shows it mid paint strip, with no underwing serials, and an attractive stencilled background hangar wall. I feel a diorama coming on. Also pictured with a projector sight, correct for early Tempest Vs, before Beamont tried the projecting the reticule directly onto the windscreen glass modification. More of a plan than a work in progress, but an attractive threesome nonetheless......
  7. Thanks, I got a laser cutter/engraver and router, having used them in a previous job as DT teacher. After a lot of experimenting with woods and settings have just about got it sorted. It's an ongoing project of kits with sticks. The gannet pic is wrong for the stick, I need a Sword 1/72nd AEW3. The Su-7B pitot failed to make it back in the house. I have a gift for breaking bits off.
  8. Must have been interesting, and a lucky man to survive so long! From what I read, they were 'challenging' to fly.
  9. Thanks! The kit came with the old Maintrack Models resin conversion, with very useful plans. I used the undercarriage, but couldn't face the butchery required to attach a new nose and tail.
  10. Thanks! And takes away attention from the dodgy brushwork...
  11. An old Airfix Belvedere, before a rush of new Classic Airfix Belvederes. Some very light modification with white metal undercarriage, more correct tail surfaces and a cone in the front of the cabin air intake and better sized wheels from a Hasegawa Jaguar. I studiously avoided the correct shaped engine intakes, as that much cutting is beyond me. It also has the wrong coloured serials, which should be white, insufficient rudder and some lumps where it shouldn't have lumps. The base also needs more vigorous sanding, to remove laser burn. It does look like a Belvedere though, and sits well with the stick. It's fair to say that there will never be a Wingleader Belvedere Photo Archive Book.
  12. Also has detail to help with an interesting cockpit mod. The second pilot's control column and rudder pedals were removable, to let a bomb aimer get into the nose!
  13. The latest Photo Archive from Wingleader. Now up to 29 volumes. Big landscape photos with the lumps and bumps fully explained, as well as specially commissioned profiles. Available at www.wingleader.co.uk
  14. Out now, and chock full of the usual detailed close ups and big colour profiles. Check out the insides at www.wingleader.co.uk.
  15. Thanks Peter, we're very proud of them, and there are more to come! I've just recovered a very rude bit of Lancaster from my shed for a future story...
  16. The two latest Wingleader Volumes, with the Spitfire book by Kotare's own Richard Alexander. Super close up detail and feature you might have heard of. Station keeping lights and Signal dischargers on the Spit, waist guns on a Halifax? Pop over to the website for sample pages. Bookshop - Wingleader.co.uk/shop/
  17. I'm a more successful collector than modeller, but do like to match a model with a real bit of plane. Facebook reminded me of a lockdown garden build, when several kits on the go seemed right and proper.
  18. That looks spectacular! It does feel like building a real Anson with all the tubing and gubbins.
  19. Just this, to avoid hijacking your thread. I've gone for the 'bomber' adjustment and moved the rudder pedals (they swung up), folded the seat, with some brutal cutting, and put the second pilot's control column in the stowed position on the starboard side. Each part has made at least one trip to the carpet. The paint is by Dulux, colour matched to a piece of Spitfire. I won't be using it again .
  20. Out now, with some interesting mods and dioramas! Avro Anson MkI (Wingleader Photo Archive 25) www.wingleader.co.uk
  21. New research in the National Archives, and re examining an old photo, have revealed a fascinating Battle of Britain paint scheme. A Yellow recognition band. It makes the cover of a new book, and a fascinating Youtube documentary. Masking tape at the ready! The Rarest Battle of Britain Photo Ever? - The mystery tail band - YouTube
  22. Out a couple of weeks ago, but your Wingleader minion was otherwise engaged. All the detail you never knew you needed, with a plethora of cowling vents to try and keep the Vulture engines cool. Have a look inside at: WingLeader - Aviation Books and Collectables
