  1. No problem, here's a link to our website which is due to be updated: http://www.stirlingproject.co.uk/ I suppose we could keep going with a million monkeys and a million years and a billion pounds, but it literally would be the death of me John
  2. In another life I'm the Secretary of the Stirling Aircraft Project and it's our intention to build the forward fuselage of a Stirling. In all respects she's a big old girl, flightdeck is approx 6' wide and from the bottom of the fuselage to the top of the Coupe (canopy) is approx 11'. We have all the makings of the u/c assembly (we may get around to assembling it) and from the bottom of the wheel to the the point where the crate attaches to the wing spar is 13'. We intend going from the Navigators bulkhead to the front turret which is approx 16' so all in all a sizeable chunk of metal John
  3. Probably because you can buy a Lanc/B17 from Revell for well under £20 John
  4. especially just behind the rudder pedals
  5. Also fitted to Stirlings, just bought one to fit in our cockpit repro As stated be careful if it's hot. Should be ok just don't sleep with it next to your pillow LOL John
  6. That's a very nice finish and looks the part One small point though, the additional air intake doors should should be closed when the engines aren't turning and burning as shown below: http://www.airliners.net/photo/UK---Air/Se...38afe7b56c2a579
  7. There was a modification which required that the bays are painted gloss white, but I don't know what the original bay colour was though
  8. Another MA bod You can't beat the Raspberry Ripples, I've got a RR Jag and Hunter on my desk at work. John
  9. Wish they'd put canopy covers as the UV light will quickly degrade the plastic
  10. Nicely done. It's good to see 420 in warpaint as she was when my mate Murray Flint bought her back in the early 90's. She's currently on display at Farnborough in OCU markings John
  11. I remember '363 very well, we got in trouble during an Abingdon BoB day as we'd change the serial number using bodge tape to XZ868. We thought it looked very nice but a spotter took umbrage. re the back end, the story I was told was that the last frame was slid in by hand and pulled rearwards until it touched the skin circumferentially where it was then drilled and rivetted into place. The earliest version of the mod was made difficult as all the fairings and doublers came pilot drilled which meant they didn't line up with anything! John
  12. Short tailcones came in under Mod 1148 and were metal and spring loaded to hinge downwards. the mod was a pain to embody initially as each aircraft had different profiles aft of the tailplane hinges. I was c/o the mods whilst I was at Abingdon in the mid 80s although quite a number of aircraft (long term storage) weren't finally modded until the 2000s cheers John
  13. A big heartfelt thanks to Mish for sorting this out for me. I'm sure that the Chief Tech concerned will be very pleased with it. cheers Mish John
  14. Hi Tony yes...time and all that. Still thought that F1 and F2 were the 2 top tanks though. F3 was directly underneath the mainplane accessed through the coffin lid. I did quite a few tub leak repairs at Abingdon and spent many an hour up to my elbows in PRC sealing those damn tanks. I may of course be totally wrong, it was sucha long time ago. I've still got some APs and course notes at home and will have to dig them out (haven't got the Sootie chapters though )
  15. I think that the 2 square panels behind the battery hoist mechanism in the NLG bay are for the N1 and N2 collector bag tanks. You can just see the oval panel entry to the F1 tank above the 2 N tanks. You had to crawl through the F1 tank to open up another similar panel to gain access to the F2 tank to replace the front spine attachment bracket which always used to crack/chafe through (
  16. There is no bomb bay, the doors have to be opened manually on the ground and is divided up into 2 separate bays with a fixed portion between the 2 that mounts an aerial array internally. IIRC and it was 15 years ago, the fore and aft bays each contained rotating scanners and equipment trays. No pics for obvious reasons
  17. I'll be there manning a table but only with a few unmade models for sale (1/72 Hasegawa Lanc, 1/48th & 1/72 DH Hornet, 1/48 & 1/72 Vampires amongst others) John
  18. Large Aircraft Infra Red Counter Measures, basically a laser mounted in a turret that provides a heat source to distract IR missiles. Also fitted to some C130J and K aircraft. regards john
  19. I've always used Halfords Appliance White as it gives a good even coat and doesn't yellow with age.
  20. The hinged tailcone mod (1148) was intro'd in the mid 1980s, I did the PI for the improved Mod 1148/1 version at Abingdon. A pig of a mod to set up as you had to get the geometry right to prevent the various fairings fouling thus preventing the cone opening fully and stopping the tail chute deploying. John
  21. When I left the Jag Project Team in 2004, they were looking to mod the headbox to put a bigger parachute in to cope with larger growbags . Biggest issue was the lack of clearance between the seat structure and the canopy especially with the Helmet Mounted Sight Gizmo. They binned the idea in the end due to the impending Out of Service Date.
  22. Apologies Dean i need to dust off my reading glasses John
  23. hi Dean Looking good so far, only comment though is that the inside face of the airbrake doors isn't yellow, IIRC they should be camouflage colour, generally grey cheers john
  24. To me it looks like a jury strut, as far as I remember that's where the oleo should be located. I might have a better picture in the Vol 3a John
