Progress;

Decided to keep her simple and not do a white washed finish.

I love these little Tamiya tanks

Progress so far;

The plan is to try the hairspray technique to apply a white wash finish.
We'll see how I go.
Thanks for looking in.

I had a play tonight to see if I could get two inflight 109's to sit in my display case. They are a bit tight but they do fit, just
.

I am very grateful for the wonderful reception my little 163 has had. Very inspirational that you guys like how the scribing and paint on this older kit came out. For it's age the Hasegawa kit still builds nicely and sure looks like a Komet. I am intrigued as to how nice the interior of the Meng kit looks and may get one to try out a Komet broken into parts.
My goals for the next year are to improve my finishing skills and build some more kits.
Thanks for all your generous feedback.

I am humbled by all of your kind comments. Thank you one and all.
These little Tamiya kits are quite neat. Everything in the box and they build and paint up quickly. I did add an aftermarket turned barrel but that's all. So much fun to just jump in and get something built and painted in a short amount of time. I had a lot of fun trying new techniques and learned a lot for my next build.
Thanks again for all your encouragement.

End of the year looms large and I'm in the clean up and finish stuff frame of mind...
Finally got around to painting the turned replacement barrel for the Tiger I. A few little touch ups and she's done too.

Finished Pics;

Thanks for dropping in for a look.
Sure do like these 1/48 scale tanks. I have a KV-1 about half built and an M-10 Tank destroyer and a few others in the stash.

Well, I finally got this one across the line. It was mostly built and painted years ago but sat waiting forlornly for me to get off my backside and finish her.
Re-scribed the kit and added some little bits and pieces but nothing too fancy. Still a nice old kit.
Here are the finished photos. I hope you like her.

I've got one more of these in the stash and would love to do it in-flight in a zoom climb

Thanks for stopping in for a look.

I have added the first pass of oil paint washes. I've tried the Flory washes and while i like em cause they are fast and pretty darn good I have gone back to the slower drying oils because I like the results a bit better.

Oh and I very much like photographing the in flight models. More angles

DAKKA DAKKA DAKKA

Sorry, couldn't help myself

Biggles87 & Parabat - Thanks for the encouraging comments.
Progress;
Decals on, well most of em
. I used a Hadmodels decal set of Hungarian 109's just to be different. they pro formed very well but had no stencils so I used some left over from my Revell 109G-10 build. I might add a few more just to tart her up a bit more. I really want to get this bit done so I can shoot the sealing clear coat and get on with the weathering

Thanks for looking in.

Just got this one out of the paint shop. Nothing fancy just a straight forward in flight build.

I did paint up a pilot for this one.

Now I need to gloss coat her to get ready for decals!
Thanks for looking in.

Great looking Spitfire. It looks as if you are having as much fun as I did. These simple, nicely detailed and easy to assemble Revell kits sure have recharged my modelling batteries. I look forward to seeing more of your Spitfire. You are a brave man attaching the tail wheel now. I'd have knocked it off in a nano-second

Thanks Andy

The wooden base is a sofa/ottoman leg turned upside down, sprayed flat black with some little rubber feet and a chromed doorstop as an up right. The connection to the plane is two sections of square brass tube which have a slip fit one inside the other. I packed out the fuselage with epoxy putty to give the tube something to seat into and spread the weight of the model and used a bit more of the putty to finish off where the square tube fits into the hole of the doorstop. Not especially pretty but it works, is cheap and repeatable. I just need to work out how I'm going to add some nane plates to the front of the bases. IHTH.

Thank you gentlemen for all of your wonderful comments. I am overwhelmed that you like my little efforts.
I'm pleased that my in flight display came off as well as it did. I have a few more ideas to try out on my next few kits.
Joachim-Your criticism is well taken. I was trying out some new materials and as I am usually not very subtle at the best of times I went overboard.
each build is a learning experience and I am constantly working towards getting better and more subtle.

A recent build. I built this kit just before my in flight 109. A most enjoyable kit which was a lot of fun to put together.
On to the pics

My favourite pic

Build OOB with kit decals. Goes together smoothly and easy. Camouflage colours are a bit off but I was pleased with the results as it took only a few days to build.
I hope you like her. Thanks for looking

Here is my latest finished project built wheels up and OOB.

Built quickly and for fun. Camouflage is somewhat generic and while the markings are from the box they aren't for this camouflage. Just wanted to build something and finish it in a reasonable amount of time ( About six days all up over a few weekends this month.) I'm recharging my modelling batteries so to speak and having a lot of fun.
I hope you like my little efforts.

Finished!
I've finished more kits this year than in multiple years past combined.
This is a really nice kit! I'm hanging out to start the Cylon Raider next

I hope you like the Viper MkII

Tried to get some more action into my pics.

I'm thinking of ways to put a proper mounting armature into the Cylon Raider so I can do some composite shots.
Thanks for dropping in for a look.

Just a bit of fun I've been working on for a year or so.

Lots of parts thinned, reshaped or remade with bolts and rivets added as needed. Nice kit but very simplified a great canvas to add as much detail as you want.

Thanks for looking.

Just finished basing this figure and I wanted to show him off. A 1/20 scale Apollo Mmoonwalker figure that i picked up as a whim at the hobby shop. It was cut up into pieces to make it a 'puzzle' but went together okay and was fun to paint.
Box image

Finished repaint and based.

Thanks for looking. I hope you like him.

Thanks Madhatter and Will - Glad you liked my bit of fun.
Madhatter - Pastels are mostly the Tamiya weathering sets. They have some neato metallic colours which work great on the exhausts. I do use a lot of plain artist pastel sticks as they come in a zillion colours and not just earthy tones. Though lately I'm thinking of tying some of the makeup colours as they seam to have some kind of binder mixed in like the tamiya sets that allow me a bit more control with application.
IHTH.

Indeed Sir,
But I do believe that the Viper Mk II is atmospheric… and imaginary
.But I jest, I was looking at some of the youtube videos of the X-15 after some high (Mach 6.5) speed runs and was amazed at the amount of damage that simple high speed flight in the atmosphere will cause.
Got to imagine them though if you are going to fly into and then out of a planets atmosphere on a regular basis. My plan is to beat this sucker till she cries

A man's gotta have some fun

Breaker - Thanks! He sure was fun to paint

Will- I had to fiddle a bit to get a good fit but nothing too fancy. Just a lot of dry fitting and sanding to get the best fit I could. I have seen some builds that had bad sink marks on the outside of the intakes but mine were perfect after a light sand so maybe I was lucky.
The Viper returns...
Progress;

Subtle not being my 'thing' I told myself to only do half the amount of chipping I though was needed. Maybe I should have said a tenth? Over the top? Yep! but then the whole mythos is over the top melodrama so maybe that's okay.
I'm having a blast and this sucker will be well and truly toasted by the time I'm done.
More when i get the strength to mask up the wings.

A fair bit more tinkering about with the finish before I'm going to think she's done but pushing along none the less.
