  1. H Chris- Thank you for your kind comments, I'm glad you like the results. I believe that I sprayed Tamiya XF-23 Light Blue Acrylic for the base and then brushed on Daler - Rowne Terre Verte ( Hue) Oil paint. If I did it now I would go with a more Unbleached Linen colour for a base and then add some Japanese Dryer to the oils and make it more streaky and variegated. I'd also use a thiner brush, more in line with how the finish was applied at the factory. But I am always learning as I go. Dan
  2. Thanks Martin. I'm glad you like what I'm doing with this old kit. The Revell WWI series was quite good in the day and can be made into a good looking model. Not too expensive and easy to find I'd like to see more of them built. I know the 1/28 scale is a bit wonky but they turn out a good size when finished and I pretty sure that's what Revell was thinking of when they moulded them. I do wish the Fokker DVII was more readily available ( I know it has some shape problems but then which old kit doesn't?) I couldn't resist doing a bit more before my weekend vanished. Middle wings is on but the landing gear is just being fitted. I am finding that multiple testing and dry fitting of each sub assembly is paying big dividends on final assembly. I did squeal like a girl as I broke off a drill bit in one of the mounting holes for the landing gear . But patient fiddling got me past the "Hulk SMASH!!! " phase and it looks as if I can get it on straight and true on final assembly. I need to work on the upper wing struts and mock up the assembly but that will have to wait for next weekend. I hope you like her so far. Dan
  3. DMC & Martin - Thank you both for your encouraging comments, They very much help keep me going back to try and finish this old girl. I have a nasty habit of picking up my stalled projects and thinking, "This is rubbish" and putting it back on the shelf of doom. A little progress; Starting to glue major sub assemblies together. Starting with the tail and lower wing. Still need to tweak the finish a bit but coming out okay. Thanks for looking. Dan
  4. This is a kit I started way back in 2009 and stopped working on when I got spooked about painting my own markings as I didn't much like the ones in the kit and I don't have much luck with decals in general. Of late I have been trying to finish half built kits and so I have forged ahead on this one. The kit is the venerable Revell offering from way back in the mists of time. Not too bad a moulding but pressed in that horrible red plastic that Revell seem to like. Back in '09 I added little bits and pieces to jazz it up a bit but nothing too crazy as I was hoping for a quick build. Last thing I did was basic assembly and streaky finish before sitting her on the shelf of doom Interior added Some engine details Guns Streaky finish in oils over Tamiya acrylic. Since then I have done a lot more paining and assembly. Landing Gear Underside paint Topside paint and decals ( I know the serial numbers wrong but that's all that was in the kit ) And finally an overview of all the bits. Still a long way to go but moving forward again after so much time mocking me from the shelf. With luck I'll get to finishing my half built Camel too. Any hints for finishing these bigger scale WWI kits. I have a stalled Camel that needs some TLC Thanks for looking in. Dan
  5. A very good start Simon Beware though, I have found these Tamiya 1/48th scale kits are such fun that it is hard to stop at just one Very much like eating peanuts. Before you know it you are going back for more. Look forward to seeing how you go. Dan
  6. Just got this one ready for paint shop this morning. Nice little kit let down somewhat by very basic instructions. Wheels kept separate to make it easier to paint. Trailer works as full size - pull a pin and the trailer drops away, very cool and over engineered in that special german way I should have some fun painting this one. Plan is to have it towed behind my Bedford. Thanks for looking in. Dan
  7. Only a little over six years in the making…Most of that sitting on the shelf of doom. Ta Da! I'm calling this one finished. Oh, there are plenty of things I would change if I built this kit today but it is nice to see one off the naughty spot and in the display case. Not to mention the feeling of actually finishing something Thanks for dropping in for a look. Dan
  8. Hey Bull-nut- Maybe a touch light, think it may change a little once a dust her up a bit but I'll live with it either way . Oh, you have to build this kit with the ITA etch, bonnet open to show off the nice engine detail. I looked into getting a set plus the one for the Dingo but in the end didn't have the $$$. Pity no one is taking over the product, sigh. You need to get this stuff as some as it is offered lest you miss out. Same goes for the Red Zebra stuff - plenty of goodies that I'd love but as I'm in Oz the shipping makes it a bit of a pain to get. I wish a local e-tailer like BNA Models would pick up his stuff. then I could manage the cost. Please share your Bedford once you start, I'd love to see what you come up with. Progress; It's on it's legs now. Well she's getting there. All I can get done before I go back to work . Figure is a bit of a bodge as I didn't fit his right arm with respect to the door with the result that the door won't fit closed. Still learning about figures. Not the end of the world but note to self - Work harder in getting figures to fit properly in the vehicle - tell a story. Doors and details plus some more weathering but she's pretty well there. Dan
  9. Solid looking Bedford, looks great in that scheme. I agree with you re; figures, though I did get the Tamiya Dingo driver to fit but would need to alter his arms to reach steering wheel. More marking options would be nice too. I really like the frame you made. I'd like to be brave enough to try one too. Dan
  10. Progress- some paint. Having fun just flinging some paint around , though looking at the pics I need to be bit more careful with the brush. Thanks for looking in. Dan
  11. Just a little question for the universe; Why, oh why, do we get so few marking options in 1/48 scale Tamiya and Airfix kits? I am building the lovely little Airfix Beadford MWD 15cwt truck and there are only two options in the kit. The kit lets you build the truck in multiple configurations and Lord knows it was used all over the place so why only two schemes? I've got another kit wanting to be built and thinking of getting a third but to get some cobbled together generic markings I have had to rob decals from two other Tamiya kits to make do. The Tamiya kits aren't much better as they don't have many options either and I'll have to find something aftermarket to fix them up when it comes time to build them. I love how easy and quick it is to build these kits and would love to build more but seriously the Tamiya Dingo has one option? One? Put a small square of decals with all the service markings and a few more numbers and I'd buy the kit for that. Okay so I have another in the stash already - I'm a sad case…but you get my point. Want to build the hobby? Give us some more options to build what is already out there. Just asking. It never hurts to ask. Dan
  12. bull-nut - Thanks! - You have to give this kit a try. It is cracking good fun, everything fits well and you can build it in so many different ways. Progress- almost to the painting stage! Working on the mirrors and some cargo for the bed. I want to try using Green Stuff to make a tarp as I haven't used it before and want to experiment. The plan is to use Green Stuff to do Zimmerit on my next Panther and so the practice will do me good. I very much like how you can build the body separate from the chassis. That is going to make painting a whole lot easier. Thanks for looking in. Dan
  13. I have been working on something to tow the little Flak 38 and thought that the Airfix MWD would do nicely. The Airfix kit is a little cracker and I'm having so much fun putting it together. All looks pretty good with some minor additions and clean up of flash and mold mis-matches. Plan is for a British NW Europe camouflage towing a captured german gun. Nice to see the good guys nickin' stuff for a change. With that in mind I'm going to try my hand a few figures too! I'm am mucking with some 28mm heads on Tamiya british stock figures - More information as I come to some conclusions if they will work. Progress? such as it is…. I still have a fair bit to go but having a blast. Thanks for dropping in for a look. Dan
  14. Thanks for sharing an inspirational and informative build. And for taking the time and effort to make what you do and how you do it so clear. It is always a pleasure to see and read about your work. Your enthusiasm and talent shine through in every post. I am consistently delighted when I see your works as they remind me why I build models, for the shear fun of building and to make an artistic expression. ( Your photographic chops aren't too shabby either, talk about some snazzy sharp close ups. ) I hope you are having fun and I'm keen to see your next project, and to see how you finish this one off. Dan
  15. Hi guys. Saw this little kit at the shop and had to give it try even though I knew nothing of the manufacture or seen a review of the kit. Inside are two grey sprues, a tiny decal sheet and one page of pretty basic instuctions. The parts are for the mostly flash free and basically detailed. The instructions are pretty basic and not too clear. I have managed to put the leaf springs on upside down, doh! Here's where I'm at right now with some few additions by me. I'm still trying to work out how the gun goes together as the instructions aren't too much help. Shortly off to the paint shop! Thanks for looking. Dan
  16. Thank you for all of the kind words of encouragement. I'm happy you like the little Jagdpanther. I'd like to see more folks try out 1/48th scale armour as it has been a fun sidetrack from my usual 1/32 scale aircraft kits. Dan
  17. Thanks Bob, glad you like her. I have finished this on and put some more final pics here;http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234994085-148-tamiya-jagdpanther/ I didn't do much more but concentrated on finishing rather than wrecking everything at the last minute. Thanks to all who dropped in for a look. Dan
  18. Discretion being the better part of valour I have finished this one up without going all over the top with pastels.( In fact I didn't break em out at all ) At some stage you just have to stop fooling about with stuff and call her done. This kit was mainly about enhancing the surface details and trying out Tamiya enamels in washes both overall and as pin washes. To that end it served well, i will uses both techniques in the future hopefully to better effect. Finished pics. Used my standard base of Black Ikea frame and a bit of black foam core, looks okay but I have to figure out a way to get some nice nameplates made up. I have an Achilles part built to finish up and then a Panther to try out. Love these little tanks from Tamiya. Thanks for dropping in to look at my little Jagdpanther. Wishing everyone a safe and happy holiday season. Dan
  19. Thank you gentlemen for your encouragement. I had a little time today to add some more weathering and such, not far to go and this ones finished. Not exactly as I had it in my minds eye when I started but I have learned a thing or two on it and that's got to count for something. Thanks for looking in. Dan
  20. Not much more finished this weekend, Just working my way round and adding some bits and pieces. Took some better pics. Thanks for stopping by. Dan
  21. Progress?; Thanks to all for your kind words of encouragement. Mapping with a little light yellow to hopefully brighten up the highs. A bit stark now but a quick yellow ochre wash will tone it down some plus the pastels will knock it back some more. Well that's the 'plan'. I have noticed that there are some molding marks I missed on the inside of the tracks which I'm just going to have to live with. Fun build so far. Thanks for dropping in for a look.
  22. Progress: I have been experimenting with very thin spot washes of Tamiya Enamels thinned with Humbrol Enamel thinners. I very much like the results but need to work with them some more to better get the hang of them. Thanks for looking in. Dan
  23. Thanks Badder and Mick, Glad you like it. I have just noticed that I put this post in the wrong section. I am sorry for my mistake, can a mod put it in the right section? Dan
  24. Just a couple of shots of my latest WIP. Basic blocking in of the paint, More weathering and detail painting to go. I wish that Tamiya would slip in a small photo etched fret for the rear screens as my homemade ones a a little pox but will have to do. Enjoying the build though. Dan
