  1. Thanks Blastvader, glad you like the base. I'm thinking up a few more ideas for different bases for the other kits in the range. Colour me happy! Progress; My self imposed rule to only used Tamiya rattle cans seems to be working. I can get about an hour a night at the bench and thats not enough time to mess with the airbush. With rattle cans I can mask and spray a single colour each night without the drudge of all the cleaning up. Not my best camo job but once I dirty her up it should look okay. The cartoon character of the kits leads you to be pretty loose with the way the camouflage is painted to get it to look 'right'. I want to get the gloss on so that I can get to the weathering this weekend but must not rush. Still having a ball and hope to get to the P-40 on the weekend too. Thanks to all for looking in.
  2. Progress; Too cold and wet to do much major painting I have stuck to getting the details painted and getting everything ready for primer. I have decided not to sling any bombs under this Corsair, and by decided I mean I can't find where I put the blooming things She will look much better once the basic colours are on. Thanks for looking in. Dan
  3. Thought I'd put all my corsair bits in one place. I am having quite a lot of fun building these cartoon characters in the Tiger Model Cute series. Progress so far; Cockpit details Basic construction Rough Base and finally Chocks I need the weather to clear so that I can get to the painting and decalling. I really like these little bonbons Thanks for looking in. Dan
  4. Thank you gentlemen, you are too kind. I hope others do try these little guys as they sure are fun. oz rb fan - Built like a dream, you do have to trim back the posts and open out the holes as this is a press fit kit. If you don't then once you test fit the parts you can't get them apart. The fit was first rate and I didn't need any putty at all just a touch of Mr Surfacer 500 here and there. Kuro Nezumi - I am building the P-40 and Corsair right now, my WIP post is here; http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/235002131-tiger-model-cute-series-p-40-bf109e-corsair/ If you would like to have a look.
  5. Finished; I had lots of fun with this and I'm looking forward to finishing the rest of the series. Thanks for looking in. I hope you liked my little cartoon. Dan
  6. Finished; I had lots of fun with this and I'm looking forward to finishing the rest. Thanks for looking in. I hope you liked my little cartoon. Dan
  7. Trevor - Tailwheel, Check Almost done Just some last little details then canopy masks can come off Dan
  8. Your work is very inspirational, and the little details are magic. Nice to see someone so talented and so willing to have fun with their hobby. I keep seeing folks that take the hobby so seriously that they suck the enjoyment right out of the hobby. i am looking forward to how you bring this all together but even more as to what you will try next. Thank you. Dan
  9. Progress; Basic base. I bought some bits of wood to try and do a carrier deck for the Corsair. I haven't a clue what I'll do for the P-40 But all still fun. Dan
  10. It's all in the inflection with teenagers, Whatever… But, I do get how these are either neato-bandito or like the dumbest thing ever. Me, I likes my toys Bright things and shiny cartoons. Dan
  11. Thanks Duncan, I would love to see what madness other could do with these little gems. I am supposed to be getting ready for Model Expo this weekend but having too much fun doodling about with the 109 Progress; Starting work on the base, should be finished on the weekend as I get to do whatever I want for once. Thanks for looking in. Dan
  12. I am heartened to see that others like these little distractions. Well, not distraction really, they can be built into nice little models in their own right. i like em 'cause nobody can give me grief as to how I build or paint them. Nice to have the freedom to do them up how I please. And they are cheap enough, and build quickly enough to experiment on without the weight of expectations bogging you down. The kits fit together well and look quite nice once assembled, in a word they are FUN! I think these would make nice kits to give kids to let them have fun with the hobby. You can build them in a few hours if you want, they do come with a set of self adhesive markings if you didn't want the hassle of decals. And have some good play value. ( I do want a Stuka though .) To wit, as the weather this weekend was wet and awful I couldn't do any spray painting, so…. I started the Corsair instead. Forgive because I have three of these little critters going now but even so I think I can get them all done pretty fast if the weather clears up cockpit got some bits and bobs, throttle etc, this one had an okay instrument panel so I just painted it. Basic assembly almost ready for primer. I have fixed the wings in the down position and filled the huge slots for the rockets. I am planing on slinging two big GP bombs under the belly. Looking forward to getting her in white primer. More once I get some better weather. I did start looking at using my normal bases for these kits and it looks as if they will work nicely. I might even try to do a little ground work to set the scene. Thanks for looking in.
  13. I have been concentrating on the 109; Interior; Basic paint; These kits are so much fun, I broke down and got the KI-84 too Thanks for looking in. Dan
  14. Your base is coming together well. I'm hanging out for the paint . Andy you must have an interesting collection of bit and pieces because you seem to come up with just the right widget to add that neat detail to your builds. That bulkhead door is killer. Dan
  15. Oh, Andy. I so like your work. I'm always inspired to try to do more with my builds after I see what you are doing. Your layout of bits is quite interesting. Did you think about the overall colour composition or did it just come about naturally? I like how the yellow primer on the X-Wing works with the yellow on the support equipment . How you have touches of green gear in the equipment bay and on top of the big wheeled unit. Do you purposely limit your colour choices or jut work by eye? I'm very intrigued to see what colours you use in your ground work to tie it all together, warm or cool greys? Browns? and which accent colour you go with if you do any painted markings. As always thanks for sharing your inspiring work. Dan
  16. Tzulscha - I loved the pilot figures in those old Revell kits, kind of wish these kits had something similar. Ashley - Resistance is futile! Come, embrace the dark side…. You know you want to. John - oh, the cockpit is okay it's the tail that's a bit short Distracted today with the bf 109 Hope to get to painting both tomorrow. Dan
  17. Thanks indeed guys. Ashley - I know what you mean, Andy's SD thread got me thinking of doing a SD too! But as I just posted there these simple great fitting kits make building so much fun they are hard to resist, much like snack food Though I hope some of their better features rub off on their more serious scale brothers. These little creatures are so much fun. My second Corsair showed up in the post and I'm going to start the 109 this morning. I have the idea to do a little bit in the 109's cockpit, I may use a 1/32 or 1/24 photo etch part to start but the way these little buggers are distorted means you can do what you like as long as you stay in "character". I am thinking an oversized Revi gunsight, throttles and O2 regulator - maybe the trim wheels? I should be able to do the basic painting on the P-40 as well More results later. Dan
  18. Lovely work on the SD Andy. You have that artists eye which makes your painting crackle with life. I especially like how you have mixed cool and warm shades of grey panels. Very easy to get a muddy look to a project if you do not get the balance just right. I like that these newer press fit kits, they assemble so well and are engineered to be built fast. That and the amount of detail they are packing into their moulds. Less time messing about with construction and more time to enjoy painting. With the added upside of being able to finish a good number of projects in a short amount of time. Keep on having fun and thanks for taking the time and patience to show all your fantastic work. Dan
  19. To say I am smitten by these little critters is an understatement just got two more the Corsair and the Bf 109. The Corsair has folding wings! Bf 109 is cheaper at only $18 bucks, a steal in my book. I'm planing on doing each up with a nice 1/32 scale standing pilot as a set. Happy as a clam I is
  20. Blogs On & k5054nz - Thank you, glad you like her so far. Well... I did get the primer on but not as far as I'd have like to get before the weekend is gone. Pics; I got to thinking that you could just get a 1/32 scale pilot into one of these birds I only have a painted 1/35 figure but you get the idea. Opens up some possibilities, hmmmmmm. I would like to get the Corsair and sling a 1/32 scale 500lb bomb under it. but first I need to finish this one. Dan
  21. More pics - She all together. Just need to wait to sand her out before a shot of primer. I did open up the last exhaust pipe, added a seam to the belly tank ( Probably spurious but what the heck ) opened up the tank hangers and drilled out the guns. Lots of nice surface detail to play with once I get some paint on. Been thinking that a mix of 1/72 national markings and 1/48 codes and do-dads could allow for different paint schemes. I could do an RAAF white tailed Tomahawk which would look pretty good. Thanks for taking a peak at my madness. Dan
  22. Saw this yesterday in the hobby shop while I was picking up the new Merit Fokker Dr.1. It was so cute I had to scoop one up to try. Truth is I haven't even opened up the Triplane I jumped right in and started bashing plastic! Box; In about five hours I'm just about to put the painted cockpit in the fuselage and sew her all up. Not bad going for me as I build pretty slowly. Here's a pic of the neat little cockpit before in gets all hidden away. I've already whacked everything else together less the main wheels so getting to base paint will be a snap. Kit comes with both stickers and decals and is all press fitted together. Much like the Bandai Star Wars kits. Fit is very good but a touch of filler will be needed where the main bits go together. This would make an excellent fits kit for kids starting out. At only $20 Aus it's pretty good value. More to come as I get the basic kit together and get to painting! Fun modelling and for me that's the name of the game Dan
  23. Lovin' the RED! Your post shows first hand that impatience is the enemy of artistic endeavour but that persistence trumps all adversity. A great save from near disaster I also like your little admission that if you don't get a start on the base now you won't want to build it all at the end, even the greats can loose steam on a build. Have fun and I'm sure you will find something interesting and unique to do with all that equipment you got for the base. Thanks for sharing, both your models and your experiences. Dan
  24. and the assembled crowd begins a slow, low chant of….. paint, paint, paint , paint, paint Such an unruly rabble Lookin' mighty fine there Andy Dan
  25. Or should I say one wing on. Spent the whole weekend bashing the one wing into shape. I had to set up the forge, get out the anvil and bash the ever loving out of the five main wing pieces to get them to fit. Each time I would adjust one area that would throughout another. In the end the joint isn't too far off with just a little bit more fettling and a tidy of the scribing I should be good to go. Lots of sand, dry fit, adjust and repeat. In the end there's not much putty just a few thin strips of styrene card around the intake. I don't know how I'd manage without super glue, accelerator and Tamiya rattle can primer . Pics; I need to get started on the other wing and begin to think about how I'm going to do the twin booms. Martin - I thought about making some resin copies but I think it will be too much hassle. So out with the Dremel! John - Thanks - There is a certain joy in just building for fun that you have when you first start out. Before you start beating yourself up over every little detail. That three coats of white would have been a nightmare, remember when you first started to use rattle cans to paint and you went WOW now that's painting. Thanks for dropping in for a look. Dan
