Progress, ready for primer then paint ; So much more I coulda , shoulda done but I'll save that for next time. But all I want now is to get to the fun part, painting! I tried out the bolt in the belly trick to make a painting stand and I'll see if I like the results . Thanks for dropping in for a look. Dan -
A big beastie indeed. I like how it's coming along. I look forward to see how well the multipart tracks go together as I have one of these in my to-do pile. Thanks for sharing. Dan

I like where you are going with this one. Tiny little things aren't they? All the little details make a great improvement and lift the whole model. I'm looking forward to what you come up with next. Thanks for sharing. Dan

Agreed, need to be lighter. Progress? Belly pretty much as I want it with only a bit more blending to call it finished. The upper sides will take more time and I've run out of gas for this weekend and there is never much use forcing things. A lot more work to do on the topside but getting there. Thanks for stopping in for a look. Dan

Glad you like my little efforts Dave Only had time today to add some pastel chalk ground colour but I'm pretty happy with the results, in fact I don't think I'll add any vegetation to this base and leave it stony ground. What do you think? Thanks for looking. Dan -
This one has been sitting on the Shelf of Doom for far too long. I couldn't figure out a way to lighten the finish without repainting the whole lot and so scared I'd screw it up I ignored it and started other projects. Lately I though I could use liquid mask sponged on kind of like the salt technique to layer some lighter shades over the grey and then spray very thin layers of Tamiya flat white over the results to try and blend it all together. All this was somewhat helped by the fact that I had added a fair bit of gloss clear into my colour coats and that ' I hoped' would not let the liquid mask grab too much. Results? ( somewhat mixed) I've added some sponged on AK washes and I will tackle the orange stripes next. Not too sure I like where this finish is 'at' but I figure it isn't worth worrying about until I get closer to where I'm done. At least the model is no longer mocking me from the SoD Dan

I must have rocks in my head. Just a buch of bark mulch held together with plumbers epoxy putty smothered in some ground texture and a lot of paint , washes and swearing Now to add the vegetation and some soil. Andy - So pleased you like my efforts as I'm constantly inspired but your models. You have made my day Blaubar - Glad you like it, I hope that it all comes together in the end. Dan -

Yellow it shall be. Maybe with some big red numbers! Progress; Base is coming along and I've got the other track on ( Finally ) I want to scratch up an AA MG mount for the cupola in brass wire and bits and then use a cut down 1/35 scale MG34. I notice that I need to drill out some sights and work on the coax MG mount. Almost ready to paint, Thanks for all the great comments as they keep me smiling. Nice to think others like these little guys. I hope you like where this is going. Dan -
Bravo Andy. I am constantly inspired not only by your technique but by your wonderful use of colour. Just great to see how you get such consistently neat effects and your 'no magic' way of describing how you build and paint. I always come away with the sense that " I could do that." Not as well as you mind but I could at least give it a shot with the expectation that I'll have a good time and a reasonable result. A rare talent that and one to be appreciated. Long may you enjoy building models. Dan

Progress; Turret is mostly finished with just some few details to add. A lot of time spent today cleaning up the second run of Panther track so that should go smoother than the first side. With luck I could get the basic primer on soon. I haven't decided on a grey or a yellow finish at this stage, but I'm leaning towards the grey as I haven't done one of those. Thanks for stopping in for a look. Dan -
I actually finished something The two nines together, I have to get off the stick and finish the G6 I hope you like these critters as much as I like building them. Thanks for looking in. Dan

Progress; That's it for the weekend I have a bunch more ideas I want to throw at this cat. Only some of them will no doubt work. Lots of fun so far although the Panther tracks will need a lot of 'customising" to get them to work. The spacing between the guide horns is way too narrow, I may just end up cutting them off as that's the beauty of the cartoon world. You get to decide what's important to the finished look, exaggerate or omit whatever you like . I have started to work on the turret bustle to make it look like a separate part and replace the lids as they are horrible on the kit. The jack had to be shortened to fit and I'm stealing other bits from the 1/35 scale Panther as the mood strikes me. Very much a fun piece. Thanks for dropping in for a look. Dan -

Thank you gentlemen. I don't have much of a plan for what I want to do with this kit. I'm pretty much just making it up as I go along. I had originally thought to add zimmerit but abandoned that idea as a bridge too far to be fun. As for sprocket teeth that will depend on how easily the Panther tracks adapt to the kits road wheels. On looking over the pictures last night and consuting the spare bits I have laying about from past projects I think I will be taking the Dremel to the rear plate to make room for a 1/35 scale jack, replacing the axe, adding an fire extinguisher, jacking block and rear convoy light, plus some other carving and sharpening of details to the turret. I still haven't figured out how to make some convincing rear deck mesh screens. Oh and I'll need some kind of base... What happened to my simple little critter project -
My latest critter. A pretty nice cartoon Tiger I straight out of the box but I wanted some more details so I broke out the bits & bobs. The kit could be built in a couple of hours but I have been adding resin and plastic bolts and other do dads most of the day. I think I will replace the kits rubber tracks with some surplus Dragon 1/35 scale Panther track just for kicks. This should be a hum dinger of a model to paint and weather. Thanks for looking in on my madness. Dan

1/48 Airfix Bedford MWD ( Added a Base)
ScanmanDan replied to ScanmanDan's topic in Ready for Inspection - Armour
As I am getting ready for Melbourne Model Expo and I've been on a bit of a base building jag I thought I'd make one for this guy. Came out okay, I have still to find a scenery scatter material glue that dries dead flat I tried out doing some wet effects which I very much have to work on, but the only way to get better is to try and fail. I do think he looks a touch better than a boring black base. Thanks for looking in. Dan -

Progress?; Not to sure this is coming out all that right. I should have thought through where to put everything and try and tell a story rather than just whacking some stuff together, sigh. Oh and I have heaps of ideas for stuff to whack in here. Just goes to show just how much thought and effort goes into a good looking diorama. A rude shock for me to begin understanding that nothing 'just happens' it has to be explicitly put somewhere. Still, I'm having fun and learning so that cannot be too bad. Dan -

Another couple of hours at the bench, I'm calling this one done. He came out better than I thought I could do. I need some better magnification as these little guys are tiny . I'm off to mess with some more do dads and maybe a power/communication pole. All I know is I'm having fun. Thanks for looking in. Dan -
Sweet looking ride, I always think the PzII looks like the sports car of tanks Are you going to make a base for it? I am especially impressed that the turret jerry can racks look to be separate from the cans themselves. Thanks so much for sharing as you made my day. Dan

Not too bad Julian, just lots of little steps I worked most of the day on adding a figure to my little scene. I'm not too good with the old figures but practice and failing are the ways to get better so... A fair bit more to do and I'm not too sure he'll make the cut but fun to do none the less. Thanks for looking in. Dan -

Julian - Thank you for your kind comment. As for painting. After priming, I sprayed a purple mix of Tamiya acrylics to the underside of all of the parts to pre shade them. The shot a very thin mix of Tamiya yellow from above to get a nicely shaded look. Next after a quick spray of rattle can gloss I used many different MIG and Ak washes to get the colours to pop a bit and then pin washes mixed from Tamiya enamels thinned with Humbrol enamel thinners. Everything was lots and lots of thin colours until I got what I was looking for. Patience, practice and a belief that it will look okay in the end are the keys, not that I am total happy with the way this looks as I'm sure the next one will be much better. ( or worse ) Then I finish with a spritz of rattle can matt finish. I'll add a little chalk at the very end held in place with some AK fixer. IHTH Dan
