  1. Welcome from a fellow inmate of the bottom righthand corner of Merrie Englande. Abiding in the same city as your architect in fact! You'll find a whole host of talented and knowledgeable modellers here - and then there's me...
  2. My youngest brother - a pronounced petrolhead (spelled P-E-T-R-O-L-H-E-A-D, pronounced "petrolhead") and chronic serial owner of Yank tanks - once owned a Torino and treated me to a ride in it. I've never been quite so disappointed in a car in my life! So crudely built, underpowered and basic. This one's looking good so far - really neat work on the engine.
  3. Well, you could always try building a street rod but some lunatic's already attempting one...

    Hello All

...or you can just busk it. The end result might be bloody awful but it's a lot of fun! 🙂 from yet another returner. You'll find me lurking in the vehicles (non-military) section if you want a change from flying things.
  5. Great job with the AC badges, especially on the steering wheel boss. Looks factory. 🙂
  6. October 1968 in a Mk I Ford Escort driving school car. By that time I'd been driving for nearly a year having passed my motorcycle test at 16 which allowed me to drive a Heinkel/Trojan bubblecar. Those were the days... 😁
  7. The cut and shut would work but it's a high risk enterprise and would scare the 💩 out of me. Working with clear parts is always a nightmare as they're so brittle and cleaning up the cut edges is not easy. The very best of luck with that. Could simply scribing both vertical lines, one on the outside face and one on the inside, be a neater solution? Scribing clear parts is not without it's problems either but could be the lesser of two evils. The exhaust system is an absolute work of art, very neatly and accurately fabricated.
  8. That's a lovely finish on the bodyshell, excellent work on the foiling too. As Andy remarked, getting the foil fine enough for those slim pillars and frames is quite an achievement.
  9. That is so true and the list is far, far too long. It's good that these drivers are recognised along with the models of the cars they drove - they were after all an integral part of the car in every way possible.
  10. Not an exceptionally notable purchase apart from it's price... I've had my eye on this one for a good year or so, all the while it's been trading at between £30 and £35 on average. Last week for some reason the price suddenly tumbled and now you can get it for between £16 and £25. I landed this for a shade under £16 including free carriage from an Ebay seller which I regard as a pretty good price for what it is. No idea what's caused the price drop (maybe it's being replaced - anyone have an idea?) but regardless I'm happy to have a decent stash addition for so little. EDIT: That's interesting... all the low-priced stock seems to have disappeared and the original price band reinstated. Looks like I just got lucky. 🙂
  11. That is quite simply a beautiful model. Incredible depth of additional detail and brilliantly executed, a truly outstanding achievement.
  12. That would be an interesting subject for a conversion, if only I could find the right base kit.
  13. Brilliantly executed build of a great model. Beautiful looking result.
  14. Normally I use PVA slightly diluted but this time I tried Mr Hobby Aqueous clear gloss. Either works, the PVA makes for better adhesion, the gloss clear easier to apply. In either case brush on a thorough coat with a flat brush then immediately tap a thick layer of the embossing powder on through a tea-strainer. Having done so leave it strictly alone, do not tap off any excess at all, until completely dry. Then tip the excess off onto a sheet of A4 paper and funnel it back into the pot for re-use. Doddle. 🙂
  15. The one I was lucky enough to blag a ride in wasn't an original either, I wish I could remember who built it but it was making its debut at the Brands Hatch event, must be 15-20 years ago now.
  16. For me it would have to be the Cobra Daytona. Many years ago I was driven round Brands in one and the driver wasn't hanging about. The memory of the swoop down Paddock Hill Bend and up to Druids in it is one I'll never forget.
  17. Great idea on the headlamps, well executed too - a very realistic result.
  18. Not much to report today, just slow and steady progress. The floorpan now sports full carpeting courtesy of a delightful shade of embossing powder... ...and the firewall now has its engine-turned finish... This is the previously-mentioned MFH engine-turned foil, an absolute sod to apply - think BMF with attitude - but the finish you can obtain with it is well worth it IMHO. Just some interior and exterior fittings to finalise now before I can start the main assembly. Thanks as always for sticking with it!
  19. @FunkyChiken: I use imgbox with no problems and have just tried it with your image without a hitch. Open imgbox, open the image you want, rightclick on it and select "Copy image link". Then from within the message box click on "Insert image from URL", paste the image location into the box using CTRL/V, click "Insert into post" and Bob's your mother's brother. 😀 Hope this helps.
  20. It's from Green Stuff World, their Metal Color range, no. 1875 Persian Violet. First time I've use GSW paints, wonderful range of metallics and very nice to use. Like most acrylics they suffer a bit from tip-dry but the Ultra 2024 makes clearing it a doddle.
  21. Amazing to see the Borgward (I think it's an Isabella but not certain), such a rarity and the first I've ever seen in the wild, so to speak. Gorgeous Bond Equipe, too.
  22. Hi Ingo, from the south-eastern UK. I'm mainly into car models so I guess we'll be seeing you in the Vehicles (non-military) section. Good to have you with us.
