Apologies for the thread necromancy but I wanted to add two things to this hugely informative thread...
1) A massive thanks to @stevehnz for the original posting. I've struggled with decals ever since taking the decision to convert to acrylics, the damn' things stick like 💩 to a blanket as soon as they touch the painted surface and I can't shift them to position them. I've just tried Steve's method and it works like a dream!
2) Klear and Future no longer being available in the UK I found Quick Shine multi-surface floor polish, imported from the US and marketed by Lakeland, was being suggested as an alternative so I located a bottle on Amazon and have just given it a go on a test piece. Two identical old decals placed on either side of a plastic spoon airbrushed with an acrylic paint, one side only pre-treated with Quick Shine, and compared the results. The one applied to the bare painted surface stuck as predicted but the one applied to the pre-treated surface using Steve's method worked a treat, giving me the ability to move it around and position it accurately, yet also giving a much better finish.
Information this good is invaluable to a comparative beginner like me and I can't thank Steve enough for taking the trouble to post it. In return I can heartily recommend Quick Shine Multi Surface Floor Finish to anyone looking for a Klear substitute or replacement.

Ditto! It's always the last few items that have the greatest potential for cock-ups.
Just a thought @Spiny, if you're bothered about the light-coloured rear rims, try running a slim-tipped black permanent marker round the edge of the rim itself where it meets the tyre - that should tone it down a treat and it's a lot easier than trying to paint anything that slim.

I always felt that the early MR2 was a prime candidate for a targa top conversion. I wonder if I could get hold of a kit... (wanders off, plotting)

That's a really great model, beautifully finished and with exactly the sort of aftermarket wheels that find their way onto cars of this type. A REALLY impressively detailed engine bay too.

Ooh, VERY nicely built and finished. I love it's grandparent on the left too!

- from the next county over! A couple of years ago I was in a similar position to you when I discovered this forum. You're amongst friends here.

Oooh lovely, vintage '60s US iron. I'll enjoy watching this one come together if you don't mind me hanging around. I have a '72 Hurst Cutlass in the stash which will probably be first on the bench when I get my eyesight fully back, meantime it'll be great to watch this one.

That's a lovely job for sure. Very nicely built and finished, the stance is dead right too. I loved these when they first appeared, great to drive with phenomenal handling.

Ditto from the bottom right-hand corner of Rishi's Realm. Coffee machine's to the right, snacks to the left. Make yourself at home. 🙂

I also can only see the second image - the first placeholder is reporting a broken link.

Great job, you can almost smell it!

It'll be good to see this one come together, one of the most beautiful shapes in 1960s Formula 1.

They're all appearing OK on my systems and I've checked the source gallery (in imgbox) and all is present and correct there.

Sure, why not indeed? I mean, it's just obvious, isn't it?

Good luck with that! (Sincerely meant.)

Brilliant model, beautifully finished. Sorry if this sounds slightly naff but it really does look like the real thing.
A very happy Christmas and New Year to you and all fellow plastic-manglers in this excellent forum. 🎄

Oooh, I really envy you the TR3 kit. Like you the TR2 is a firm favourite of mine and bearing in mind how the TR3 grew out of the '2 it'll be interesting to see how the 'shell looks without the grille. I don't reckon it'll be far away.

Blimey! Good luck with those hinges. You might need to hire a mechanically inclined gnome to fit them for you.

@JeroenS, @Toftdale, @kapam, @Stickframe: Thanks hugely for your kind comments. Kapam, you're not far off the mark, there's definitely a whimsical air to this conversion and I can just picture Gromit at the wheel with Wallace in solitary splendour in the back - toast in hand of course!

Y'know, I'm really glad my eyesight is preventing me from modelling at the moment, it means I can just sit back and admire what's going down here without thinking "I wish I could get anywhere near that level..."
This is just at another level entirely. It will almost be a shame when it's finished!

Fear not good sir, you're amongst friends here. Sanity's overrated anyway (so I'm told, personally I wouldn't know - I've never experienced it).

Patience? Watching this model evolve is worth waiting for. As previously observed, this is scratch-building at its very best.

Modelling and purchase plans/wishes for 2024

As I won't get my sight back properly until the end of March my plans for this year are somewhat curtailed. I have seven kits in the stash with no room for any more, so by the end of the year I hope to have built most of them, disposed of some unwanted Jo-Han kits and made room for more.
