I have been working on the body work of my 1/12 Countach for about a month now, airbrushing Tamiya lacquers . I am getting better at thinning the paint, so that the coats are much smoother, looking for that real gloss shine. But I am having a problem with dust & other particles magically appearing in the paint finish, right before my eyes. My hobby room is in the basement, with a painted concrete floor in a 5 year old house. I have vacuumed my hobby area, I leave my home made spray booth on for about 20 minutes prior to painting. I seem to be in an endless cycle of painting, wet sanding, painting again. Plus, after washing the body after wet sanding, there are some water spots that are nasty, and have to be wet sanded again. I am wondering, is my washing the car body after wet sanding (in dish detergent), causing the body shell to be static, and drawing the dust to the model? How can I de-static the car body after each coat/wet sand? I tried using a tac cloth, but that left residue, and then fish eyes in the paint. I do about 70% aircraft models, and do not seem to have this problem, plus I do a lot of Tamiya 1/12 bike models, and have not really had the dust problem I have right now. Perhaps it is the weather? It hovers between -5 C and +10 C the past few weeks, and the air is drier in the house.
I would love to strip the 10 coats of TS paint, but can't find anything to touch the laquers , and this 1/12 Countach is a big model.
thanks
