Wow Hunker, that’s a way cool 88. It just looks really good. One of your key bits of info was one of the things I was wondering about: the rivets! I thought an older Airfix kit like this may have been festooned with rivets, so thanks for confirming that. I’m a bit of a lazy modeller and time poor so sanding lots of rivets off isn’t really my cup of tea. That first photo of your 88 banking away looks like a classic box art! Very cool! And thanks everyone for your input, very grateful to you guys. Karl

Many thanks for your replies and advice Pat and Chuck! Much appreciated. I thought Airfix may have upgraded the kit but sounds like one to leave alone, oh well. Back to the drawing board.

Hey all, has anyone recently built Airfix’s 1/72 Ju88A and can anyone point me in the direction of any Airfix Ju88A builds on here please? Just wondering what it’s like to build and if there are any glaring faults/issues/difficulties with the kit? Many thanks! Karl
  4. Awesome Beast! I love it!! Are those quad dorsal guns sticking out of its back?? If so this thing must have packed a fair punch when it did catch up with its prey!! Very nice work, Andy. Cheers - Karl
  5. Hi Vlad, I really like the job you’ve done on your RN cruiser! Can I ask a really dumb question (especially for this forum) but I love the subtle highlighting you’ve achieved on all the edges/details etc. is that achieved through dry brushing and if so what was the lighter colour you used and what was the base colour? cheers! Karl
  6. G’day Zac from the Gold Coast. I’m a Kiwi Australian living on the Gold Coast (aka Paradise). Like all Kiwi’s living in Australia and slowly taking over the country by stealth I’m sure there are plenty of us on here slowly and quietly taking over this forum 🥷🏿 Welcome aboard from up the coast! 7. Hahaha I really enjoyed reading your post Graeme! And your Focke ME is a work of art. I can really appreciate your skills in painting and weathering armour has very effectively transferred into weathering this aircraft - superb! Your building AND humorous commentary skills are a breath of fresh air. Frustrations aside, do some more. Cheers - Karl
  8. Hi Sam, I would be very interested in following your conversion of Graf Spee to Scheer as I am contemplating building the 3 pocket battleships of this class myself but in Hellers 1/400 scale. I have collected all of Hellers 1/400 GrafSpee, two of Scheer (Hellers post 1942 version and Lees late 1930’s version) and Lutzow. Scheer, as Seahawk correctly points out, is very similar to Graf Spee, especially as built in the ’30s. But my bigger focus is on building Deutschland as she was first built pre Lutzow. Her layout was considerably different in superstructure (narrower) and deck layout from Graf Spee or Scheer and combining that with her original hull profile pre the clipper style bow they installed. Lots of customising needed. And like you probably having to buy at least 2 hulls to make it work. Worthwhile project though and I wish you well with it. 🙂
  9. Hey 73, I am full of admiration for the effort you have put into your Hood and the fortitude you dug deep for to get through some very significant issues you have had to navigate through in your life these last few years. Most of us struggle to even start let alone finish a kit without half of what you’ve had to endure going on in the background. Hopefully you have found some level of comfort and been able to ‘escape’ for a while in your builds. I would love to see a few photos of your Repulse which alongside Hood looks like you have achieved a very high quality finish. Keep your chin up and thanks for sharing your builds with us. Cheers Karl - Gold Coast, Australia
  10. Good effort and an amazing result. Well done
  11. Wow, for a paint job you’ve done after the ship was assembled, you’ve done a brilliant job. Well done, Neil, she presents beautifully! Karl
  12. Love it!! Just shows you can’t rush a worthwhile project and gives me hope for the vast number of builds on my S.O. D. Some of which I started back in 1994… Must be nice to have finally launched this one 👍
  13. Excuse my ignorance but why do they call them ‘lightening holes’?
  14. George, I’m sitting here on a Sunday afternoon on The Gold Coast, Queensland Australia, Piddling myself laughing at your thread - priceless (though not the bits about heat, drought, colic, having to feed out hay, loss of body functions, and snake bites) and very entertaining. I’ve shown my wife what a ‘real’ stash looks like and now thanks to you she is more accepting of my modest accumulation. I do hope you are managing and always know that modelling guys like you inspire modelling wannabes like me to get off my backside and resurrect old kits started years ago. Cheers mate! Karl
