Well built, nice paint job and I second the comment about the ailerons. I'll never like that kit though...
-
Quick question Nobby, how are you going to make the recesses for the exhausts?
Martin
Bet you 20 quid he's thinking of Dremeling a slot for it...
-
That's a really good job on a good looking aeroplane. I'd make one myself if it wasn't the rigging.

"You've done a very neat job removing those cannon bulges"
I thought that, if I'd done it one side would be raised and the other would have a dip.

Ray Ball in his article in the November issue of Model Aircraft, said that the mouldings had lost their sharpness and actually went out and bought a second, older boxing in crisper black plastic for his build. It's well worth reading, by the way.

Looks like it's wearing a Santa hat.

So if Humbrol 90 is Sky, what is 23 meant to represent?
John.
-
Yes they do. They also do colours called Boltgun Metal and Chainmail which enable a bit of variation when painting different items.
I knew this would get expensive

-
Thanks all.
Do Games Workshop do this Mithril Silver?
-
The instructions for the Falcon canopies say that the fuselage should be widened by inserting a 3mm wedge at the extreme rear end.

Has anyone got a spare clear vax canopy or even the original kit? as I do not want to spend another £13 on another one. if so can you pm me?
I'd strongly advise trying to get hold of the vac one, but if you're stuck, I can let you have my original, such as it is.
John.

Hello all,
I was wondering how shiny the aluminium undersides on an early war RAF aircraft would be. What paint do people use? Humbrol 56?
Ta,
John.

Thanks guys, I finally feel I'm making some headway now!
Cheers Trev.
The eye sights fine mate, no problems!
Glad your enjoying it mate!
A couple of thanks are in order for a couple of nice blokes who've sent me so stuff that'll come in really useful for this build.
Keith, thanks for the "bit" of lead wire! I'll have enough to last for ages mate! Cheers!
John, thanks for the spinner. It looks right. Though I feel you've robbed me of the pleasure of making one from Milliput or the lanc one! Only joking mate, I really appreciat both of your contributions.
Nobby
My pleasure. Of course, you could always make another one...
-
That would be very handy mate, cheers! What do you want for it?
I've probably spent more time than I really should have, but I'm happy with the result!
Nothing, PM me your address and I'll stick it in the post.
-
I managed to fix em mate! I made a couple of adjustments as well!
Be interesting to hear your ideas as well about the spinner. I've been thinking of making one from Milliput. I've been practicing with blue tac to get the shape as its like Milliput to work with and it can be done. I've also made one from some stuff called "quick steel", like Milliput but sets in about 10 minutes. I can adapt the Lanc spinner though so I may do that.
I have a spare Aeroclub Typhoon spinner for a three blade prop if you'd like it...

If I take a 1/72 Airfix Spitfire I/IIA and stick the C wing from a Mk IX on it, adding the supplied Mk V oil cooler and exhausts and finding some bigger cannon bulges I'd end up with a decent Mk Vc. The only fly in the ointment would be the cost of the two kits plus an aftermarket prop. It would only make economic sense if I could do something with the remaining parts - can anyone suggest a project using an A wing and a Mk IX fuselage?
Thanks,
John.

I take it Humbrol 149 Foliage Green doesn't butter anyone's parsnips?
-
I can't help with the exhausts or wheels. I'm just about to start one of my own and was wondering the same things!
I'd come to the conclusion about the canopy that painted decal strip is the only way to go.
May I ask what you did to correct the nose? I was looking at the resin conversion but at £4.50 plus p&p thought that maybe a 4mm spacer would be just as good....
John.

I wonder if they misread my email.

I must admit when I first read this post, I wondered what was wrong with the Quickboost one. Then I realised there wasn't one...

I've sent an email to info@quickboost.net suggesting that they produce one, they'd sell loads. Maybe if anyone on here who was interested did the same we might get a result?

As a brush painter of enamels I prefer WEM to XTRACOLOR as it goes on easier and the colour accuracy seems comparable. Having said that, I've never been unable to get hold of XTRACOLOR when I've wanted it but the supply of WEM Colourcoats has been a little erratic.

Originally not such a bad kit, the tooling is pretty well worn now. I picked up a mid-1980s boxing quite recently, which is so much better.
It always had a few shape issues, worst being the back end of the engine nacelles. All quite fixable though, and like the Frog kit, a nice canvas for a good modeller to work from.
Cheers,
Bill.
I have to agree, I'm building the Airfix Mk IV at the moment, an older boxing (Beatties, 85p) in light blue plastic and really enjoying it . Great fun. You get to sand off the excessive surface detail too.
-
A cracking effort!
May I ask what paint you used for the underside aluminium finish?
-
Regarding the props, I understand that 1/48 Blenheim ones are the right diameter and look correct with Typhoon spinners.
Excellent model!
The attempt to turn a pigs ear to Silk purse!

Isn't the problem that the vac replacement canopies are direct replacements fo the Airfix items and therefore the turret part is too small?
